with founder john mcafee. he was arrested in guatemala accused of entering the country illegally. the 67-year-old who founded mac uh fee anti-virus software has been on the run for the past month after officials in belize tried to question him about the death of a neighbor. mac uh fee has denied any wrong doing. abc news spoke with mcafee in guatemala. >> how would i know? >> mcafee says he requested asylum in guatemala. he claims he is being persecuted for refusing to donate to local politicians. >>> a reprieve for local politicians. it will not be taken over by authorities. the city reached a deal with civil rights attorneys. they want a deal that will require them to make more than 50 reforms that still haven't happened. the judge threatened to give control to federal authorities. if oaknd la does not reform -- if oakland does not reform faster. the person will have the power to demote staff and over rule

he says john mcafee says he is never going to turn himself in. he's either going to have to be caught by authorities or this murder is going to have to be solved in some other way but he's not giving in. >> but is there a reason? you describe his behavior as bizarre and corky. just from kind of an analysis perspective, what is going on in his head? what did you glean from your interview with him? >> you know, that is something you can't help but try to measure as you talk to this man. remember, this is the first time -- we heard from him many times on the run. this is the first time we actually saw him. seeing him changes the perspective. he seems very clear minded. he seems to tell you in a very convincing way. he does seem to have a bit of a tremor. i asked if he was on drugs, he said absolutely he is not. but then he begins to tell you this story that seems will be hard to believe of a government that is out to take him down. he says because he didn't pay a bribe. so it goes from the very clear and credible to the almost outlandish. one thing

i think today is gonna be a crucial day at least for the legal team of john mcafee as they attempt to pull out one last-minute stay to prevent him from being deported back to bozize. he's been in hiding from belize authorities who say they don'tly want to question him about the death of his american neighbor, greg fall. yet, he feels he's threatened by the authorities. you know, dramatic, he says he -- he came here to guatemala where he felt safe. and he hired and attorney -- an attorney and was seen very public. we saw him in belize. and yet it is here where he was arrested. he was brought in because he entered this country illegally. he asked for asylum. that's been denied. so it is anticipated he will head back to belize to answer
