connell: we are back. i was not kidding around when i told you we were going to have vanilla ice on. debt collectors are notorious for their nonstop phone calls. they are now invading social media. the government they have something to say about this. shibani joshi is in the newsroom. shibani: we have all had this happen to us. and unfamiliar friend request on facebook. some of us to either impress our love and accept that unknown friend. the debt collectors are now getting more social trying to reach you through the web. they estimate that as many as 30 million consumers are being pursued by debt collectors online including places like facebook. they are chasing down around $12 billion in debt. they say maintaining and keeping on top of that collection is a top priority, but the rules about using social media are still unclear. that means companies like jpmorgan, capital one and debt collectors could face new regulation on how they contact debtors. right now it is the wild wild west and they can reach you

connell: thank you. dagen: the senate set to vote on the debt bill. connell: we have rich edson on capitol hill. rich: the senate is increasing a debt in the ceiling. that would allow spending through may 18. they can push that date even further into the summer. the debt ceiling moves out of the way for fight over government spending. it has already started. >> clearly, it is the spending that we have to deal. now is the perfect time to do so. the key to a robust recovery is to create jobs and grow. >> it is something that we know. we understand that. there is more to making our recall of an economy. rich: if any of the amendments pass, the bill then heads back to the house. the senate will very likely said this bill to the president's desk this evening. the sequester beginning in march in a large portion of government authority running out march 7. if they fail to reach a spending puma we will have another government shutdown. back to you. connell: let's bring in band manager. -- let's bring in dan and.

connell: thank you very much. there is fresh white house reaction just coming in from this morning's jobs data. peter barnes has the reaction. peter: the numbers came in about as expected. the 150,000 new jobs was about the same pace that we have seen on average each month for the last two years. job creation may have gotten a little boost from hurricane sandy. construction added 30,000. maybe some places where placing damaged cars in december. a little surprise in the unemployment report is the rate was unchanged in november once it was revised up. we made a big deal about this when it dropped to 7.7% from 7.9% in october. the labor department announced its regular annual adjustment of its reports because of seasonal factors affected just one month, november. >> there are some signs that the holiday shopping season started earlier. also, because of internet sales we are affecting package delivers. the nature doesn't change as the economy evolves around time. the bureau regularly need to keep up with those changes

connell: thanks. let's go to a chief investment strategist at raymond james who is with us now from st. petersburg florida. one of the things if you look at the stock chart, is that over and over here it continues to find support around the $500 level. it is at 506 and change today. what do you make of that? >> i think you do have support levels in between 450 and 500 bucks on the shares. i mean, what's happening, i think shibani had it right, it's no real surprise. we downgraded -- i spoke to my analyst this morning, we downgraded apple in jjly of last year from a strong buy to an outperform because you were getting slowing growth, and you basically gone from a hypergrowth company to a more of just -- i don't want to say moderate growth because 20 to 25 percent growth is still pretty strong. but if you look at the tech sector in aggregate, they always tend to overorder parts going into a new product launch and then throttle back after the product launch. so travis doesn't think there's a whole lot of
