fox 5 is monitoring metro this morning. transit agency has signed a major contract to fix all those broken escalators. it is a common complaint from a lot of the riders that use metro. >> metro signed a $151 million contract to replace or modernize 128 escalators across the system. most of them will be up and running over the next five years. some will not be online until the year 2020. >> metro forward, our capital rebuilding effort that has been under way now for a couple of years, is not about band-aid solutions. it is reconstructive surgery compared to a band-aid solution. >> i think it is about time someone did something about it. most the escalators in town aren't working at all and most of the the elderly people are up there. it is really good they will do something about it. >> i'm glad they are taking steps to repair those. i know it will cause a lot of problems. >> metro says the project will be funded by federal grants. the pentagon station will be the first to get and he is clot -- to get an escalator renovation
