use the floral preservative we give you. >> reporter: you know you hear the wives' tales and you put pennies in the water and it will make it last longer. >> use the commercial preserbtive. not only foods for the flowers but an antibacterial agent which is going to cut down on the bacteria that grows in the water that makes the stems droop over because the flowers can't drink. >> reporter: save your pennies. what about the leaves on the roses? should you take those off? >> any leaves that are going to be below the water line. remove. because those leaves are just going to rot in the water. rot bacteria, bacteria droopy stems. >> reporter: those are some beef arrangement this is morning that you're working on. what about the water? how often should you change it? >> as often as you can. the water that the flowers come in already has commercial preservative in it. it's good for a couple of days, keep topping it off with fresh water. in a few days if you have the time and energy, totally replace the water. in reality, most people won't have the time and energy. but -- i'm being real. >>
