i just spoke with berkeley police. they say this was very unusual. firefighter got a medical cal to a home on dwight way. when they arrived, they were only here for a couple of minutes when someone inside of the home started shooting. a man believed to be in his 80s. one firefighter was hit, grazed but treated at the scene and is recovering. this started around 1:41 this morning, a small home on the 1200 block of dwight way. five firefighters responded to help with this medical call. about ten minutes in, they called berkeley police asking for help and then they called back and said this had escalated. a man had opened fire. all of the firefighters made it out and the man barricaded himself inside. >> it was a very small residence. so i could imagine that the situation was very scary for them but they were able to get out and, you know, luckily this didn't last too long. he was -- did surrender. there was no further incident after that. >> the police recovered evidence from the home. after making contact with this elderly man, there were other people

our roots are in berkeley. if you mailed something to us, it would go to a berkeley. our first store was on vine an walnut. saying that, i will be honest, you never know what's going to happen in the future, but i think our berkeley roots are too deep for moving our home office. however we have out grown it so now is the time. >> in particular you mentioned your roots in berkeley but i'm thinking like jam ba juice who were head quartered in this area thechlt -- they must be doing something. >> jamba juice, for us, we were roasting our beans in emeryville. it was our roasting plant company and there weren't many condo s and as it was getting more residential people were complaining and we had to build a roasting plant outside. so we turned that building into our office. >> makes sense but we've had coffee growers in san francisco, historically, but not too many right now. we appreciate it and this is just the change of one form of retail to another and one coffee to another coffee so i don't really see a problem with that. >> thank you. >> and i would move to approve.

we talked with a lot of people over a couple of years and we did do a pilot with the city of berkeley and the feedback we received is that most people in a wheelchair want to feel they are upfront and they can be near the driver and so it's somewhat, it can be, it's a bit flexible but basically wheelchairs can be up or behind or next to each other and we can take out the seats to accommodate a different configuration. >> my daughter, one of my daughters has been a member of the city carshare and it's worked out very well in the past just for the regular automobiles. i'm kind of interested in also your non-profit. do you have annual fundraiser you do? >> most of our fund raising is grants. the grants we do for the access mobile program came from the city of berkeley and most recently through bart the help of the air quality management district as well. >> thank you. >> wonderful, thank you. >> can i ask a question? >> yeah. >> so does the wheelchair user can they both drive and ride as a passenger or passenger only? >> currently passenger only. the mechanism to move the seat does exist
