take a live look at martinez junior high. that's where his classmates have actually started a collection to help the family pay for medical expenses. about an hour ago, aaron hern's father spoke to nbc news about his son's ordeal. christie smith will bring you that story in about ten minutes. >> a follow-up on a story we have been covering since yesterday morning. at&t now says all cell phone service and internet service has been row stored in the morgan hill and gilroy areas. crews have been working throughout the night to try to repair a fiber optic cable after somebody cut that line early yesterday morning. investigators say the vandal then fired a rifle at a pg&e substation, that caused a big-time oil leak in one of the transformers. this morning, sheriff's deputies are still standing guard outside that substation. bob redell, "today in the bay," live at the scene right now. he spoke to one of those guards. we'll tell you why security is still there and what he told us, coming up at 6:30. >>> 6:09 right now. get a look at

the 11 year old martinez boy who was injured in the boston bombing. was released from the hospital today. aaron hern spent the day touring the bombing site. tonight, kron four's jeff bush spoke with a family friend. about aaron's progress so far. aaron and his family made their way back to the place where it all startedthe finish line where aaron was wounded by one of the twin bombs while he waited for his mom to finish the race. aaron's color was good and he was in good spiritsshowing off a few of his new souvineres. but, as difficult as it was, it was important for aaron and his family to go back to where the bombs went off. it was a very emotional, moving time and for some people it was important for closure. gay gerlack is a long time family friend and the news of aaron's release from the hospital was a relief for her and others close to the family. gay says the 11 year old has been in the thoughts of martinez residents since the word got out about his injuries. i think, right now, one of the biggest issues for aaron is how am i going to get all o

abc7 news reporter kira klapper joins us live from martinez. kira, a fun run is going to be happening later this morning? >> that's right, a fun run fundraiseler start about an hour and a half from now at alhambra high school in martinez. a family friend who put together the event said 500 people already rsvps for it. they are hoping more people will come. anyone who comes can run or walk alone or with a team. it's ten dollars a person to enter, five dollars for teens and you get a deal if you bringing a big group. all the money will go to helping the hern family with their unexpected and expensive medical expenses their son was near the finish line waiting for his mom to cross when the second bomb hit and sending shrapnel into his legs. he has taken his first steps. he is undergoing treatment for the severe wounds he had. but that is a testament to their strength as a hole. >> so strong, so driven. katheryn qualified from boston from her first marathon she had ever run. when they have a goal, they will find t they are a strong family and they
