but i will say that mike lupica had an interesting piece. he wrote, what code needed to be cracked here for the athletic director before he took all these findings to the president of the school? these people are as bad at trying to save face and other parts of their anatomy as rice was coaching basketball. making the argument that the accountability needs to be above the coach. the a.d., the president maybe even needs to be fired. he even suggested that chris christie being the governor of a state where rutgers is essentially the university of new jersey. might want to sort of get more involved and call for some investigations. i like that idea. you cannot just blame one guy. this is a culture. these are people who knew it was happening and let it happen for too long. >> it goes back to what we were talking about the other day with the way these college sports programs are bigger than schools within which they reside. you can't have a functioning democracy with j. edgar hoover. a small group of people sometime have way too much power. even

. >> mike lupica, thanks for being with us. thanks for the perspective. it's a sad announcement on the boston marathon facebook page right now. the family meeting area has been moved to boston common. runners are being directed there to meet friends and family. city of boston assets have been deployed to assist runners at the common. i'm also thinking of mayor menino who has had a bunch of health challenges announcing he will not be running for re-election. spent a chunk of time in the hospital, most recently was being treated for a broken leg. this was obviously his favorite day of the year. there's no bigger booster of the city of boston than tom menino. now to have this. we have every federal agent in the region heading to boston, massachusetts. we're just going to keep putting these pictures on the air as they come in. you see all the yellow vests of first responders. remember how many were already there. pete williams, our justice correspondent, pete, sadly, as i keep saying, we have way too much expertise in explosives and terrorism investigation ov

mike lupica is a columnist from the new york daily times, radio talk show host and author. martina, we have long been asking the question when would a man playing a major u.s. sport say he's gay. we know the answer now. the next question is, what's the impact? >> i think the impact is immediate because we are talking about it. it's an everyday word now. we don't have to hide. for jason, i think it's going to make a big difference in his life. it already has. most of all, he'll sleep better at night. he's leading the way being the first major leaguer to come out. i can't believe it's 32 years after i came out. better late than never. it puts it on the front page. we don't want being gay to be an issue. we don't have equal rights. jason coming out this way is going to push that forward a little bit. also save lives. no kout in my mind some kid is not going to commit suicide because jason is out. >> do you expect other professional athletes in the four major sports to follow suit? is that important? >> i'm sure some will come out. they will play better ball. it takes so much e
