markey has been leading in the polls. the question is whether gomez will be the threat scott brown proved to be a couple years ago. former massachusetts senator with me now. senator, does turnout mean anything to either party? >> i think turnout means a lot. around 10:30, there was 5% turnout, 3:00 in boston, 5.12% turnout. in my special election, it was over 50%, upwards of 70% in different parts of the state. turnout is very, very important, it helps gomez especially because there's 25 communities that have an override that deals with the ability for the towns to tax themselves for a particular project to get money into the general fund, and there's 25 things that bring on fiscally conservative voters. i said it before, think it will be single digits. the democrats are nervous, they're going door to door, begging people to get out in the polls. there's not the amount of energy there was in the last two races certainly. other races i have seen through our history. >> senator, i wonder when you shocked the political world

"the wall street journal" had this in it today with this shot from his winery reporting "in the last two weeks, john jordan has single-handedly spent more than $1.2 million to help gabriel gomez in his uphill race against ed markey." $1.2 million spent by this one guy. to put that in perspective, the republican party itself has spent $900,000 on gomez, but this one guy in california with the wine glass is pumping more money into the gomez cause than the whole republican party is, and even though the actual polls in this race so that it is really not very close anymore, even though the real polls show ed markey opened up a 20-point lead, gabriel gomez is all set according to the wine guy who is paying for his whole

markey is up by 7 points. but a fund-raiser for markey in d.c. last night, vice president biden minutessed no words in expressing why one should take the senate seat for granted. he explained since the president is not at the top of the ticket this time around, minority voters aren't likely to show up in the same numbers they did in the past two elections. voters are going to choose between markey and gomez a little less than two weeks from now on june 25th. and while biden is asking donors to open their wallets new york city mayor bloomberg is asking them to close them to democratic senators who voted no on gun control legislation. he's sending a letters to largest contributors asking them not to give on the four who blocked debate on tighter back ground checks. it would be pryor baucus, heitkamp and begich. other democratic senators like chuck schumer and majority leader harry reid, little concerned about bloomberg's strategy saying gun control legislation has a better chance of passing in the senate. we're back with more show after the break.
