right now the oakland public library has a summer reading and lunch program. the fourth program is to reach out to oakland families, asking them to get a lot more involved in their kids' education. educators agree parent involvement is one of the crucial pieces of this plan. in oakland, leeann melendez, abc7 news. >> happening toad about 700 children are expected in downtown burlingame form the tenth annual lions ride, a bicycle journey too raise money for cancer programs. event features racing activities for children while also raising money in association with the live strong foundation. as you know that's the cancer support nonprofit started by lance armstrong. organizers decide move forward with this year's event despite a dopingald mission by armstrong earlier this year. since it began back in 2004, ryan's ride has raised more than $5,750,000. this year's ride kicks off at 1020 this morning near california and lore ton avenues in burlingame. participation is there. ahead, you will meet a bay area couple living in the cloud. they have quit their day jobs.

in oakland, abc 7 news. >> also in oakland we have some video of 0outrageous theft we want to share with you. story 7 news first brought you ack 4:00 o'clock today. atm stolen early this morning from the union 76 gas station on park boulevard in oakland. this is survillains video from the goods station. the truck backed into the bullet paragraph window at least three times before it was finally able to crash all the way through. then man attached chain to the machine to pull it from the wall. 2 men then lifted the heavy atm on the back of the truck and took off. took less than 2 minutes. it was destroyed. store owner tells us he recently had the surveillance camera repaired. >> also girl knocked unconscious after falling from second story window in oakland. it happened not far from international boulevard. good samaritan jumped a fence and held her until paramedic arrive. glad to tell you she's expected to be okay. >> union city family is struggling to come to terms with the loss of the 6-year-old child. he died when the family dog attacked him. relatives say especially hard to understan
