[laughter] >> this is a great day for the health of san francisco. this is a great day for the future health of our city. i'm so delighted to be here. and let me also say that it was about a year ago that a couple of us at the board, including supervisor cohen, we held a very different press conference over on the board side and i am just amazed and so grateful that we have come as far as we have gotten to where we are today. it takes a village to build two hospitals and i want to take just a brief moment to thank everyone who has been part of that village starting first and foremost with the community. the leadership behind the elected leaders here who ensured that this is a deal that's not only good for health care, but ensures that we are meeting our local hiring needs, our housing needs, our transportation needs, our neighborhood needs around the city. and, of course,

well, your board president david i chew and -- david chiu were just discussing what game we were going to play each other what we go outside and work on your computers. we look forward to that. i want to thank ann and the aging and adult department for wonderful leadership. third summit. thank you very much. congratulations, because you have been not only engaging our communities, but your department has always been looking at four things that would help increase capacity -- for things that would help increase capacity interconnectivity. this year's summit's focus on creativity and technology and be sure that we use the wonderful grant from our federal partners in the department of commerce to help us engage healthier, happier, and more connections with our aged community and persons with disabilities. it is a wonderful goal, and we have a lot to talk about today. i also want to welcome all of the businesses that have been partners with this. you know, when it comes to technology, we in the government can never do it alone. whether it is federal, state, or local government, we have got

[ applause ] >> of course, we have to thank all of our partners from city departments. i want to take a moment to single out from planning i want to thank neale, and david for planning for the vision of what this amazing street is going to be about and i of course want to thank mohammed and to his staff for getting this done on time and on budget. i want to thank the port staff for helping moving this forward. i want to thank mayor lee for putting up with many of us who have been asking him for a couple of dollars for getting this

david chiu and i come from backgrounds where we do not want to leave anybody behind. we want everybody to enjoy the riches of technology. we want them to enjoy the economy in san francisco. that is why we're working so hard to make sure our central marketplace is welcoming of all these technology companies, making sure that we can work with other cities. i am very lucky to be part of the u.s. conference of mayors, and they allow me to represent san francisco as the innovative center for all the rest of the cities across the country. so we get to compare information and there. what these days i will get to talk to you while i am in washington, d.c., and you can hear what i am saying across there, so we can enjoy it -- wherever i go, you know i will be working and not fooling around. finally, we also are using technology to join our private companies in hiring san franciscans. hopefully some of your kids, some of your grandkids as well, are going to enjoy some of these great jobs in san francisco, because the companies that are here, many of them have agreed to use the

and, so, i have been very glad to have been working with board president david chiu to be working on the working group that as we review and understand what these new companies are doing, the technologically oriented companies that are part of a share economy, get more people involved in the economy in general, and creating ideas about how people can participate. we came across a very great idea that as we go through more exercises in our disaster preparedness, ann and her staff have been great at that. in fact, the last one i kind of had fun in, how do we feed 10,000 people in the middle of the tenderloin in a major erredthtion quake disaster. we walked through that. we saw how meals are served. we tried to do it in the proper way. ~ earthquake we know we're going to need a lot of help. the main message that we wanted to have was after a disaster hits, we want the message to be out before disaster, during a disaster, and right after, that we welcome everybody to participate in our recovery. and the best way to recover quickly and faster is we engage everybody immediately about how w

we've teamed up again with board president david chiu who has been personally involved with this and helping us and guide us with his knowledge, having been a small business owner himself, with how we can do even better. and today we are announcing actually two areas of improvements to our piece of legislation that i think will get people even more excited. the first is after a couple of years of opening up some of the data streams in our city and seeing how this data had already started, some companies, some entrepreneurs develop applications, helped us already with identifying some additional needs in the city and involving more people, we want to do even more along that line. and, so, this legislation will allow us to establish, along with the best practices that are going on in new york, chicago, and the sunlight foundation, that is to create a position in the city, basically establishing a data office, an open data officer for the city, somebody that's going to help jay naff. jay is like our external innovation officer. he's helping me connect up all the time with all of the dif

(applause) >> now, this budget will fully fund the street repaving program to improve streets and sidewalks and continue construction and planning on critical projects such as the water and sewer system improvement programs, our new general hospital, the bayview opera house, and improvements to muni. and thanks to the 195 million dollar voter approved parks bond, we will continue to invest in our parks and open spaces.
