flossie is expected to bring rain and high winds to oahu today. flossie is also causing problems for people right here in the bay area. at sfo yesterday we found a number of united airlines passengers who were told their flights had been canceled. in total united canceled six flights to hawaii. one woman was told she was have to wait until saturday to get another flight out. that meant having to cancel her trip to see her best friend. >> i was pretty bummed, cried in the wash room a bit and called my mom. >> another couple we spoke with says they were trying to get to hawaii to see their son's wedding. they say the bride and groom-to- be were already there, but everyone else was stuck. now, we checked in this morning with the bay area's three major airports. sfo says it had to cancel nine flights yesterday, oakland reported three flights canceled and san jose had four. right now there is no word on any cancellations or delays for today. >>> time now 4:32, and this morning a united airlines employee at sfo is accused of stealing luggage from passen

i want to give you a look at flossie. the winds are 40 miles an hour. as dave mentioned, a relatively weak storm. it has to be 39 miles an hour to qualify for a tropical storm. so barely making it there. it's making a path toward the hawaiian islands. here's when we expect today and into tomorrow. later today, into the afternoon, it will cross over maui and then oha u and then -- oahu and then kauaiy. and then it will drop to a tropical depression. rainfall anywhere from 5 to 10 inches in isolated areas. in the mountains areas we could see 15 inches strong enough winds to topple trees, power lines, a dus surf as well as high seas. that's what -- dangerous surf as well as high sea es. that's what they are dealing -- sees. that's what they are dealing with. here at home, we're unseasonably cool. we'll remain that way. the system will be locked in for the next few days. that will keep our temperatures below average for this time of year. partly cloudy skies in some areas at this point. but take a look at where we're socked in pretty good. santa rosa, the e

flossie is showing we have rain and the doppler is through the hawaiian islands. right now it is only a tropical depression. most of the storm centers are moving away from the center. the temperatures at this time in the morning are mid-to-upper 70 with dew point in the mid-70's and the winds, though, the fastest wind is in honolulu at 22 miles per hour. we knew this would not be a big wind event and would possibly be a flooding rain event but have not heard much about that. as it pulls an, it will continue to hold the 35-mile-per-hour winds so if you are headed that way, the airport will start opening as we head into the afternoon hours. here is a look at the cloud cover, everyone is covered again and it is starting to slip in the south bay and sliding to livermore, the two areas that were the brightest yesterday will be the same today by 9:00. by, say, 10:00 or 11:00 the east bay is clear but the north bay will take the longest to get rid of the clouds in the usual spots around san francisco by noon or 1:00 o'clock and the coast will see a few holes open in the

so here is the latest on flossie, 35 miles per hour move accelerating away from honolulu. the gusts are now at 13 and gusting to 18 in honolulu the fattest ones around. so, not a big wind event and have not heard of much damage fromnesscy but make sure everyone knew because it was a big issue if you tried to get there yesterday. 35-mile-per-hour wind and the cloud cover will take a while to get out of the neighborhoods of the breaks at 9:00 or 10:00, and by 12:00 the entire inland neighbors are clearing but the coast will be sunny for the afternoon. as far as what going on you can see the cold air over the top of us and this area low pressure with the counterclockwise flow steering the weather our way and it will stay locked in for the better part of the traditional work week so we will look at seven-day outlook, barely to 82 inland and upper 50's to mid-60's in san francisco. morning clouds give way to afternoon sunshine and same air mass on thursday and we will modify it on friday, saturday, sunday, and monday to get summer back in the forecast. nothing too extreme. leyl

hawaiian time, the storm is moving to the west at 29 miles per hour, and there is flossie and the big island of hawaii and so it is closing in quickly with 24 hours out from making the impacts into the big island. we will have a look at the track. as we move it westward, it will weaken fortunately as it approaches the islands and monday morning local hawaiian time, a 60-mile-an-hour tropical storm or less and that is the trend in the forecast. probably a 50-ish tropical storm m monday afternoon as it moves through the big island and perhaps close to maui and continues to weaken as it moves west across the islands. looking at the enhanced satellite view showing where the bright colors are and those are the big thunderstorms with it. and you get a sense over the last couple of hours it is roughed up and more ragged now and that is good news that maybe a sign of the weakening trend that is happening as it continues to head toward the hawaiian islands, and this is what i expect in terms of the impacts across the region. 40-plus mile an hour wind gusts and rough surf and indeed coastal flo

. >> watching what is now tropical depression "flossie" off the coast of hawaii. the storm had been categorized as a tropical storm as it headed for hawaii's big island and maui. the storm is not only affecting residents in hawaii, but also travelers around they bay area. there were several cancellations yesterday, and more are expected today. kron 4's solo reporter jackie sissel is live at san francisco international airport with an update. things are looking better today than they did yesterday. if you are trying to go to the island i cannot tell you that that would be good news. many flights were canceled about a half-dozen or more. in fact, a united cancelled all their flights going into hawaii. it is a different story this morning and the good news is that according to the board, all the flights leaving our own time. you can see that these are the arriving flights that are coming in from there and three of those have been cancelled. if you have someone who is coming home from you need to call the carrier just to make sure. yesterday, more than half a dozen fl

tropical storm flossie is bearing down on hawaii threatening to flood the state with more than a foot of rain. paul deanno has the latest. >> when you look at a wide satellite view it doesn't look big but look where exactly it is heading. it is likely going to make landfall right over top of the big island. that there is the tropical storm. many different facets to this. you have the wind of course because that's what makes a storm tropical. we'll see wind gusts especially on the big island 40 to 60 miles per hour but the wider impact will be the very rough surf, the very high waves that we're going to see and all the rainfall. some parts of the big island may receive up to 15" of rain over the next 24 hours. for us, look at the hazy skies. this is our dublin cam and visibility now is down to less than two miles. this is because of wildfires burning more than 300 miles away. we'll talk more about that, our strong onshore flow and when the heck we're going to warm up. that's coming up. >> thank you. >>> it's supposed to be a surfing competition but it turned into a massive riot in down
