julia, how do they look? >> well, bill, earnings per share coming in better than expected, coming in at 49 cents per share. that's up from 11 cents in the year-ago period and beating analysts' expectations. revenue right in line with projections at 1.07 billion. another key number is the total number of members in domestic streaming. the number for q2 is 29.8. that's sort of the midpoint of the guidance that netflix gave last quarter. and then, the other key number here is the number of paid streaming members. that is 28.62, and that is at the high end of the guidance the company gave last quarter. but it is a little bit less than what wall street analysts had been expecting. another key thing here i want to point out is that the company free cash flow swung to positive. there was $13 million in free cash flow. the prior three quarters did have negative free cash flow, so that's a positive. we're going to continue to dig through here and i'll be back as soon as i get more, bill. >> all right. thank you very m

those revenues are slightly better than expected, right, julia? she has the numbers. julia? >> that's right. earnings coming in better than expected at $7.47. that's compared to expectations of $7.32. but it is still down from the year-ago quarter of $9.32. now, revenue came in at 35.3 billion. that's a hair better than expected. wall street was looking for 35 billion. which is basically flat from the year ago. so this is up a hair from the year-ago period. so those numbers are better than expected. looking at the individual sales numbers -- iphone shipments came in at 31.2 million. that's compared to expectations of 26.4 million. so better than expected. but ipad shipments look like they're coming in light. 14.6 million compared to expectations of nearly 18 million, and max, they sold pretty much right in line with expectations, 3.8 million, total shipments of max compared to expectations of 3.9 million. i'll continue to dig into this and we'll be back to you with more. >> all right, gene, what do you think of the numbers? >> the iphone is the most important number, and tha

julia looks at the numbers. julia? >> reporter: well, kelly, investors have their eye on a couple of key indicators of netflix's growth and future potential. perhaps most important is the number of paying u.s. subscribers to netflix's streaming business. analysts expect more than 29.5 million. then, there's revenue growth, which is expected to be 21% to 1.072 billion, and then earnings growth, as well, expected -- earnings are expected to triple from 11 cents a year ago to 40 cents this quarter. there are also other numbers in the spotlight, like the number of international subscribers. the company projected as many as 7.9 million total, and then the dvd business. the question is, how fast it's declining. last quarter, the company projected as many as $112 million in profit from the dvd business. less than that would be a disappointment. the stock is down a little less than 1% today, ahead of its quarterly results, recovering a little bit from losses earlier. and ahead of its unprecedented approach to an earnings call.
