many of their crews from the redwood city fire department responded, as well. they are reporting that passengers were in need of burn treatment. that according to ktvu, a television station there in the san francisco area. according to them, some of the redwood city fire department, there were passengers in need of burn treatment there at the scene. >> gregg: redwood city is the closest large town or small city other than san francisco. it is just past the san francisco international airport as you head south along highway 101. this airlines has had a couple of major crashes since it was founded in 1988. one of them, july 26, 1993, a domestic passenger jet slammed into a hillside in southwestern south korea killing 68 people on board. that was bowing 737, it was down from seoul, south korea and it crash landed in heavy wind and rain about 25 miles from the airport. another crash occurred in 2011, july 29th, two people died when an asiana cargo plane crashed in the waters of southern coast of south korea after it reported a fire in cargo compartments. we don't k

kimberly tere joins us from redwood city with the story tonight. >> reporter: 280 was shut down for about three hours, the california highway patrol investigated the fatal accident, a public information officer tells us that that accident happened about 2:40 this morning in the southbound lanes of highway 280, just north of woodside road. he says a black honda clipped the rear end of a toyota suv, causing that toyota to hit the center divide. right after that crash, a witness in a silver jeep pulled over onto the right hand shoulder of 280 and stepped out to help those involved in the crash. he says as he was walking across the freeway lanes, he was hit by another suv. >> any time you see a collision on the freeway, we recommend people to not stop on the freeway and help, just call 911, let us know what is going on. and if you stop, other vehicles cannot see you and you therefore, you might be -- you're liable to get struck. >> reporter: the driver of that honda involved in the initial accident which prompted the good samaritan to pull over to help has been identified 25z 5-year-old charl

headed to redwood city away from atherton, and we are seeing it along 84 and, also, better radar return here with yellow and orange, that means it is reaching the ground, away from menlo park and headed to redwood city and it will head off to the coast so watch out, half moon bay and possibly sprinkles to a light shower. this is falling apart with yellows and oranges from skyline boulevard but there are sprinkles in the higher elevations and that is headed toward the coast. so you may see a little bit of an uptick. everything is quiet at sfo and we do have a light shower to the north headed to candlestick park and we will see if there are flight arrival delays. the big picture, everything is moving from east to north of west with a cell at the south and headed to big sur and those are also headed off of the ocean so our best chance of wide-spread showers is this morning but we have to keep a chance there in the afternoon because the air mass is so juicy and we could spark another shower any time. the best chance is in the high country so there is a flash flood warnings and we will have
