rick folbaum, thanks. jenna: we're going to turn to the war in afghanistan and new word that president obama is reportedly considering a complete withdrawal of all of our forces by 2014. it's the so-called zero option that would leave no american troops in afghanistan after next year. there had been plans to leave a small resimilar wall force. the question about how many we would leave behind has been up for debate. we've talked about that before with kt mcfarlane, fox news national security analyst. let's talk about this zero option. why is it coming up now? >> because the problem with afghanistan is whether we leave today or whether we leave a year from now or three years from now, i think it's pretty much a lost cause. karzai has failed to do what we need him to do. he remains corrupt and incompetent, and he's now really sticking it to obama thinking he's going to improve his negotiating position. i think the surge made sense but not with a deadline to it. when president obama said we're going to go in,

rick folbaum is reporting this for us. rick? >> reporter: there is search for those still unaccounted for, jon, but nobody is holding out much hope of 60 people alive. human remains were found near the explosion site. investigators say the victims were burned beyond recognition. families are supplying dna samples. officials say the there is a chance the remains will not be in fact be able to be identified. criminal negligent is one possible charge we're hearing could be filed. not sure against who. the company who owns the runaway train, said firefighters, local firefighters disabled the train's brakes hours before the disaster while they were fighting a small unrelated fire on one of the train's cars. the local fire chief said his crews followed protocol releasing brakes, letting officials know the fire was out. clearly the brakes were never applied, leading the entire locomotive rumbling doesn't slope into a packed downtown area on friday night. 60 people confirmed dead -- 15 confirmed dead but 60 unaccounted for. that number

rick folbaum has a little background for us. he says it's almost difficult to believe with, rick. >> reporter: it really is. so this is a guy, he was found unconscious in a motel room in california. when he wakes up, he has no memory of his past, he's speaking swedish, and he's calling himself by a new name. he did have a couple of forms of id on him, so police know that he is michael boatwright, a 61-year-old man from florida, and he was found with a duffel bag full of workout clothes and some tennis racquets, so officials actually think he may have come to california for a local tennis tournament. but he's now calling himself johan elk, and health professionals say pictures they have found show him in sweden when he was a young boy, so that could be where he picked up the swedish language. he's diagnosed with something called transient global amnesia which can last, apparently, for months. it can lead to memor loss, sudden and unplanned travel as well as possibly taking on a new identity. other than that, doctors say he's this

hello, everyone, i am rick folbaum and fort jon scott. jenna: we are getting reports for what might be next for edward snowden. earlier today it was reported that edward snowden holds a document allowing him to legally enter russia. but now it is said that snowden will remain in the transit zone as russian officials weigh his asylum request. steve centanni has the latest. reporter: he is still in the transit area of the moscow airport, but beyond that we really don't know much about what will happen next. his lawyer did arrive today at the airport and we have pictures of that. as there was that report, he had permission to leave the airport in the later report that no permission had yet been granted. he arrived at the airport last month after flying out of hong kong and he has applied for asylum and seven latin american countries. the problem is he doesn't have the travel document to leave moscow. the passport has been rescinded that he has. he is wanted on espionage charges after leaking sensitive documents from the nsa. jenna: what effe

rick: i'm rick folbaum. arthel: and i'm arthel neville, welcome to second hour of "happening now." egyptian troops opening fire on supporters of the deposed president killing three people. in cairo islamist protesters taking part in what was called a day of rejection. the muslim brotherhood's response to the ouster of president mohamed morsi. it was supposed to be peaceful, but we're told shots were fired as the group marched towards a building where they believed morsi was being held. the military forced morsi out this week, and elected leaders of his party after millions protested for days, and now this latest violence fueling concerns the unrest is only going to escalate. greg talcott's streaming live now from cairo. greg, what's the latest there? >> reporter: hey, arthel, yeah, once again deadly violence in the heart of cairo. from our own position where we are right now in the past couple hours, we have heard gunshots, we have seen combat apache helicopters buzzing low over the city, and we have heard the wail of sirens. the main violence has been happening just a couple miles

i'm rick folbaum in for jon scott. >> i'm patti ann browne in for jenna lee. ntsb is investigating why a landing gear collapsed for a southwest airlines plane landing at new york's laguardia. they hauled the plane away for a closer inspection. the drama unfolded yesterday evening as flight 3:45 from nashville what seemed to make a routine landing for 150 people on board. but then the nose suddenly dropped and the plane skidded with sparks flying. >> first thing that goes through my mind is like, are people going to be freaked out? is it going to get -- all in all, hey, we walked away. no fire, no deaths. >> started skidding towards the end and the nose was holding it down. and then i saw a wheel pop off of the plane towards our plane. >> so check out this picture. you can see the plane's nose resting on the runway and its inflatable slides deployed. we're told first-responders treated 10 people at the scene. six other passengers went to the hospital with minor injuries. laguardia now, fully operational once again after it was closed due to this hard landing. p

rickrick folbaum is live in our newsroom with more. unbelievable, rick, just the latest in a string of events. >> reporter: it has been a very dangerous month for train travel in europe. this latest crash in western switzerland, as you said, it was head on. two regional trains, one going south, one going north and one of the conductors was killed, at least 35 people injured. five of them seriously. and switzerland is known for having a very safe rail system. and investigators are on the scene right now trying to sort out cause. and this, of course, comes on the heels of two far more deadly recent crashes on the continent, one with last week in spain where 79 people died after their conductor took a turn at too high a speed causing the train to derail and smashing into a wall. the conductor, who survived, faces manslaughter charges. and a seventh person has now died after an accident earlier this month at a train station outside of paris where a train station came off the tracks as it was pulling into the station where people were stand
