berkeley. alex savidge is in berkeley to tell us more about that camp which is now gone. good morning, alex. >> reporter: yeah sad day for thousands of bay area families who have returned here year after year to the berkeley tuolumne camp. the facility run by the city of berkeley. we will put up a map to show you exactly where this is located. it's right along the tuolumne river near grove land and not far from yosemite national park. berkeley operated this camp since 1922. as the massive rim fire closed in, the popular camp had to be evacuated. counselors in training packed up and hoped for the best. the u.s. forest service is unsure exactly how many buildings at the camp were lost. meantime close to 3500 firefighters are battling the flames on the ground and from the air trying to slow the spread of the huge fire which is now burning inside of yosemite national park. this is new aerial video taken on board a california air national guard air tanker. a plane that can drop 3,000 gallons of wate

police in berkeley have gone back to the scene of berkeley's latest homicide. it happened last night at the busy intersection of san pablo and delaware. it's berkeley's third homicide this year. ktvu's brian flores is already there. you have an update on what the police are doing. brian? >> reporter: good morning, dave. yeah. berkeley police back out here this morning. investigators are combing the area talking to residents and businesses asking people what they saw or heard last night. but from what people are telling us, they say crime is on the rise here especially in this part of berkeley. this is normally a safe neighborhood which is why many are left wondering what's going on. this morning, police have not released a suspect description at this point. but police do say the shooting happened just after 9:15 last night near bing's liquor store. police received reports of multiple gunshots heard in the area. when they arrived, they found a man lying on the street injured. police have not released his identity but they say he was 24 years old. that man was th

the city of berkeley has operated the camp since 1922. as the rim fire closed in, the popular camp did have to be evacuated. and then yesterday, flames spread to the camp and des snroid much -- destroyed much of the facility. the fire burned many of the beautiful trees that many people say make it such a magical place. it's very sad. it's a -- it's a very sad day for berkeley. very sad day for our community. we're all just really at a loss right now. a loss for words in many ways. now this morning, i've reached out to the camp directors but i've not heard back to try to understand the extent of the damage that was done there to the facility. people who have enjoyed the camp, camp tuolumne are promising to help rebuild the place, they build a strong bond with the camp. it does seem though it will be quite sometime before the camp is back to the way it was before. in the meantime a lot of bay area kids are missing out on what is a unique experience. >> we want to show you video of camera of a taker flying over the rim fire. now the plane --

i checked out the ride through emeryville and berkeley and both directions of highway 80 are looking good and the interchange that splits off on 580 westbound to go over the san rafael richmond bridge is looking good and i am just getting on the bridge now and so far the traffic is looking good in this direction and the other correction so we will see if that changes. >> there is a convoy of trucks on interstate 580 during the commute and a company is turning out 6,000 truckloads of asphalt to pave the new bay bridge and could be congested so caltran will monitor traffic at the command center. they can reroute the convoy of trucks if needed and officials say the trucks are diverted back to 880 and highway 238 dug overnight hours. >> who says caltran doesn't have a heart? a bride and groom are move ahead with plans to be married on sunday, with preparations underway for the wedding planned months ago. weddings are a specialty here on treasure island. the couple were shocked when they learned the bridge would be closed but caltran is bringing access passes to treasure island from san f

this city of berkeley's camp was evacuated last night. and 100 students from a private camp were vaulted from san jose's family camp on monday. coming up at 6, the fire and smoke is threatening key infrastructure that serves millions here in the bay area. the unseen impact, all that smoke and flames is having right now. >> and chief meteorologist, bill martin, he has been tracking the conditions near the fire. he joins us now with the latest. bill? >> and it's typical august conditions up in the fire area. here's a map of where the fire is, near sonora. we come in close. first thing i want to point out is the topography. look how vertical these cliffs are. a lot of terrain that firefighters are dealing with. not only that, but you've got winds blowing about 13 miles an hour, 4 miles an hour, kind of ranging in there, out of the southwest, west-southwest. temperatures in the upper 80's and even low 90's. nasty fire conditions. and thunderstorms. current conditions, the red flag warning for northern california persists and in this fire area
