the woman in the kayak is karen hatch. she was surrounded by a 80,000-pound humpback whale, a whole pod of them. california bay, monterey coast. karen is with us in northern california. good morning to you. >> good morning to you. bill: i hope your friend john karl low is watching because he is the one who had the picture. >> yeah he did. bill: he thinks this is the picture of a lifetime. what were you doing, karen? >> basically we were out there watching he invited me to go out. the conditions were going to be good. we couldn't ask for more beautiful day. wave conditions were good. it is normally foggy that part of monterey bay but it cleared up. the whales were out just about two or three miles out of the harbor. it was pretty ease to get out there. it was incredible. we've seen a lot of whale watch sightings. seen a lot of sightings and whales coming up feeding. bill: but karen, karen, come on! this is three feet away from your kayak. >> yeah. that was the highlight. basically we were out there, all of sudden i see dire

. >> but john carlo in a kayak along hatch took the photo that turned the sighting into a lasting moment. >> when i took the photo, i was really scared, not only i didn't know what was going to happen to karen. when i got back to land, i realized that i was looking through my pictures and realized this is the best photo i have ever seen. >> that was anthony mason reporting. they reported seeing 15 humpbacks and that is the most spotted in the same area this year. >>> check out this huge wall of dust. this is southern arizona earlier this evening. the fast moving dust cloud was kicked up by wind from thunderstorms in the phoenix area. visibility got down to a quarter mile in some areas. dust clouds like this are kicked up a few times a year in arizona. >>> don't really have any of those here. >> thankfully. a buddy of mine was leaving sky harbor airport and they tried to get the planes out in time because it can mess up the engines. >> it is ominous to see them in person. it doesn't look right. >> we have fog. dust cloud bad, fog over san francisco, less bad. it's quite romantic. a peek o
