i do want to compliment mta something that annette eluded to when the the massive reconstruction. the j line ended temporarily south of market street. in order to allow people to transfer to the underground to get downtown. they built a temporary wooden ramp at that stop: one i saw that, i gathered support i said look, you have already found you have room in the street and you've got a temporary platform. why not make it permanent? they listened to it and they did it. if you have a problem speak out. mta fixed the problem. i said about going to community meetings when there are new key stops because we ran into opposition. some merchants felt taking away their curb side parking would take away business. it's one of those urban miss, that curb side parking is a lifeblood of small businesses. we ran into problems even with the then mayor willie brown who stopped the construction out of concern for these merchants in one neighborhood. eventually we held firm and we won and got the key platform from where we recommended it. you have to keep going to these meetings. you have to pay att

>> what happens next, annette? >> well, they are starting to talk and they start to talk and they talk and talk and talk until probably november when we see a government. legally the parliament has 30 days until they have to convene the first time, but that doesn't say as well when we will have a new government. so probably sometime in november. the spd has a convention i think mid november when they want to finally probably say yes to a grand coalition. >> yes. so it's horse trading from here on in, but let's make the point here. this is not a bad place to start from if you are angela merkel. this is an election where she was expected to be returned but what's been achieved is something more remarkable than that. she's made gains as an incumbent party in power during a very difficult phase for the eurozone economy. this is a ringing endorsement from the german people as to how she has governed the country over the last two terms. she secures this historic third term and there were people who were just ecstatic at

joining me tonight is annette, chair of the democratic party. in florida, you won't believe this folks, governor rick scott is doing his very best to block obamacare at all costs. the florida department of health issued a directive to its employees this week, barring navigators from health department buildings. now, navigators, what they are is outreach workers who are sent to help residents sign up for the insurance through the affordable care act health insurance marketplace, which, of course, begins on october 1st, we're just a few weeks away. it's obamacare. they're actually shutting these people out, these navigators out. this is a law that has been passed. the department says the navigator's program raises privacy concerns for consumers. that is hogwash. but this is something that rick scott, governor of florida, has also mentioned in his push back to the program. according to the united states census bureau, almost 4 million floridians lack health insurance. annette, good to have you with us tonight. this is a big battle in florida, isn't

let's get out to annette in frankfurt. the periphery is certainly the focus for angela merkel's government. what's the latest there and how are they likely to react to this flaring up of tensions around italy? >> well, for now, the german government is probably playing it very calm because they concentrate on domestic issues like the coalition talks because, of course, we need to have a new government in order to tackle those eurozone problems once again. interestingly, yesterday, and as well today, the bundes bank is holding a conference on european regulation. clearly, it was on supervision that was there yesterday. the main topic was the eurozone debt crisis. and will it come back this autumn was a big question. as well, the bundes bank board member was responsible for markets. he was raising this question in his speech and he was actually warning that we need more growth and that there will be or there might be renewed tension on those sovereign debt markets. and, of course, linking to the potential tensions on the sov

annette is in berlin with her own thoughts on this. the coalition is looking more likely than not, annette ya. what would that mean in terms of the big policy decision particularly towards the rest of europe? >> well actually the big coalition or the grand coalition, as we call it is it's becoming more likely because the levels are extremely weak. in the recent polls. the christian democrats have some sort of weakness if you look at the last pull by the institute. but nevertheless, the call is very close when it comes to the election results and the history as it's well shown at polling institutes can have some standard deviation mistake, i could say. and as well that means that actually what we could see during the election or from the upcoming elections could as well be a grand coalition between the social democrats and the christian democrat union. what that all means for europe is -- well still unclear. of course the social democrats are in favor of more solidarity but, as well we could call it so lidty and solidarity. angela merke
