david jackson, can you hear me? all right, we lost david. we'll--we've been trying to get him for the last 15 minutes or so. we've been trying to get the view of the region with david jackson. israel said it held a joint missile test with the u.s. this morning. military sources say they landed a missile over the mediterranean sea in a test of an anti-missile system. we have more from jerusalem. >> the significance alarmed that was evidenced on tuesday morning has calmed down somewhat, but what we do know is that the israelis filed a new type of israeli known as ankor, and it's used to test the anti-missile capability in a system called arrow 2. now obviously it caused alarm because although the americans were informed in advance that this test was taking place it seems that the russians were not informed, and so the tracking of this russia missiles caused consternation. the strike is a nonchalant attitude towards this. i spoke with one official from the israeli government who said we're just practicing, making sure that everything worked, no

david jackson is standing by in beirut. standing bailiff as well to break it all down for us. david, what can you tell us about this supposed new information? >> reporter: well, dale, that is right, there is new information coming out you have syria from a couple of different sources there. all sort of gathered together by the syrian national coalition. talking about the fact that the chemical weapon supplies have been moved around inside syria in these intervening days, now that they know there is this kind of delay. didn't surprise anybody terribly that that would happen. it was expected that they were moving a lot of military equipment of all sorts in many different directions so this was something of an expected statement. but now officially putting a stamp on it is something of news today. and it is also believed that the rest of syria is still in the middle of what has been called just its ongoing civil war by way of saying other syrian national coalition spokes people have said today, we are too business fighting a civil war right now to keep track of all these delays,

joining us is david jackson from beirut. how are people there reacting to president obama's announcement? >> reporter: is there is something of a relaxation although they had their problems to contend with at the same time. this a nation that has gone through sectarian violence. we have had 75 people killed until car bombs over the past little while. >> that's something everybody is worried about now beginning to continue they don't want to e that go back into place and they don't want that to happen. the focus has been on syria lots of refugees coming across the border and now going back. with this week-plus after reprieve, many more probably will then go back into syria and wait out this next period of time at home active any question that egypt or another country would be involved in a military action against syria? >> is thethere social security chance and the one that stands most poised and israel says they are standing by with their finger on the trigger. they do not expect to be drawn into this, though. they don't see

richelle. >> david jackson live from beirut. thank you so much. lebanon isn't the only place the u.s. is taking precautions with diplomatic facilities. the state department is pulling non-emergency staffing and families from the u.s. consulate in turkey. we have more from southern turkey. >> reporter: the united states has authorized the drawdown of its consulate staff in the southern city of adana. this is not a mandatory pull-out of staff we're being told. it's rather a voluntary but highly advisable move. it's important to point out that this measure is not being replicated neither in the embassy, in the capital ancara or in the main consulate in the large city of istanbul. it's only in the city of adana. there's a specific american connection there, that being the airbase where we see nato and u.s. forces stationed there along the turkish-syrian border. this is a time when turkey is jittery and concerned about possible retaliation from syria, should there be any military strike targeting the syrian regime and military forces. now, of course, t

al jazeera david jackson joins us from beirut, lebanon. what do we know about bashar al-assad going on the offensive? >> reporter: we have heard a little bit about it over the last couple of days, john. and there are indications that a lot of equipment and personnel are being moved away from any of the military facilities there. we heard a comment from the syrian national committee, the rebels fighting against assad who said, if and when a strike comes, there may not be any casualties simply because everybody will have had such time to get out of the way, including a lot of sensitive equipment out of the way that the result in that instance might be minor. we certainly don't know, but i mean there has been shirk y of time for them to do these kind of maneuvers. >> that's what is indicated is going on right now. >> david, how is assad responding from what he is hearing from around the world on possible military strikes from the u.s.? >> reporter: well, most of the official statements have come from u.n. am babassado bass dar affari. there h

al jazeera's david jackson joins us from beirut lebanon. what is the story, the line i'm reading about the assad - president assad going on the offensive? >> well that's what it feels like a little bit. we heard through the last couple of days that they have been moving equipment and personnel and men into different locations that were in residential areas, taking them away from the military bases and taking equipment from the bases and putting them in closer to what amounts to residential areas, areas far away from the military bases that they expect to have targeted if and when the strike occurs. it stands to reason that they would have considered something like that along the way because they had time on their hands, and that time was being put to use. that being said, the syrian national coalition, the sunni rebels fighting against assad's forces say they are taking advantage and they don't move things with impugn itty in the nation, they come under fire from the rebels. both sides are taking advantage of this to their own advantage. th
