lawrence? >> cate, you know what, the winds finally switched directions of course very hot over the weekend. even some triple-digit temperatures and very low humidity. now we're seeing a sea breeze kicking in. in fact, those winds coming out of a southwesterly direction in many spots and so, yeah, we're seeing the winds kicking up. and that can always be a concern as some of those winds can get very blustery in the afternoon. that doesn't look like that is going to be the case today. in concord right now, we're looking at some west- northwesterly winds at 9 miles per hour. but that wind is holding a lot of moisture today. the humidity levels have come way up. and that is going to be the case over the next couple of days. today we're expecting a southwesterly wind about 15 to 20 miles per hour. there's a possibility you could see some isolated gusts even higher than that. the highs today instead of triple digits into the 80s and 90s. so cooler today and the humidity probably the main factor of h

. >> lawrence, thank you. a gas line break not far from the scene of the deadly san bruno explosion had crews working all night on the peninsula. kpix 5 reporter sue kwon is there gathering the latest and sue the leak stopped caltrain service through the area overnight. >> that's right. because it was on a caltrain project here at san bruno and san mateo. right now you can still smell a little gas in the air. but i'm told that that line is now capped. and repairs are now under way. this did happen at about 8:30 last night when construction workers were working on a project at san bruno avenue. one of their pieces of equipment broke a 2" gas line. caltrain in both directions needed to shut down. had bus bridges taking the stranded passengers to bart and nearby millbrae caltrain station to get around the area. there were no injuries. you know, construction accidents like this are not uncommon. but this accident did happen a few miles from the san bruno residential area where that gas main exploded back in 2010 k

lawrence was a frequent visitor there. and it was -- it became a refuge for him and his syringe -- circle. talking about his circle. his relationship with his students that got him in to politics. prior to that, he showed no interest in politics whatsoever. to a quite extreme extent. he didn't know the crash happened in 1929. lawrence mentioned it to him and was amazed that he knew nothing about it. he began to take notice of the political events when he began to see his students were affected by the economy, so to speak. i mean, he was surprised to find his students were getting good jobs if they were getting jobs at all they got low-paid blue collar jobs. they reacted to that by becoming radically left-wing in the politics. and that drew him in to left-wing political activity on the west coast. that tendency was strengthened by the fact had his first serious lover was also part of the left-wing seen in california member of the communist party and due him to the further. as did -- who was one of his colleagues at berkeley

lawrence. >> good morning, cate. i think we have a couple of days here to really get a good handle on this fire. the weather conditions going to improve for fighting the fire. in fact, the winds have switched directions. that's some good news. this is more of a moist wind that's coming off the coastline carrying with it some higher humidity and some cooler temperatures. that fire continuing to burn at mount diablo but the wind switching to a southwesterly direction about 15 to 20 miles per hour. yesterday, up in the 90s in some spots. today back into the 80s. and the humidity upwards of about 35 to 45% so improving conditions for the firefighters there. and maybe even a little better by tomorrow. now, around the rest of the bay area this morning, we are looking at 50s and some 60s early on. by the afternoon, we'll find a whole lot of sunshine. the cooling trend continuing across the board. yesterday it was 102 degrees in livermore. today, well, much cooler still hot at 93 but much more comfortable and 88 degrees in c

right now let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> reporter: thanks, lawrence. highway 4 is unusually busy taking for traffic now that deer valley and marsh creek closed because of the fire burning at mount diablo. the backups begin a little earlier. we have the travel advisory around the park it he have is, marsh creek road closed in both directions between camino pablo and regency road unless of course you're a resident but best bet to avoid the area while fire crews are still out there fighting it. here's a live look at the bay bridge. we are just beginning -- this just happened in the last couple of minutes -- to see a few delays in the far right cash lanes but no metering lights yet. that's traffic. back to you. >>> new this morning, a coroner has arrived at the scene of a fire at an apartment building in berkeley. the fire on oregon street broke out around 1:40 this morning on the building's top floor forcing evacuations. it went to two alarms and firefighters needed about a half hour to finally get it under control. we know at least one person was injured

all right, let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> reporter: thanks, lawrence. and we were watching that accident near the macarthur maze pretty close to the west grand overcrossing. well, they cleared it out of lanes so just like that traffic is filling in at the bay bridge toll plaza now but all the middle lanes have reopened. and the metering lights were also turned on just a few minutes ago. so traffic is slow again but we are seeing our usual pattern in the fastrak and the cash lanes. it is backing up into the overcrossing again that was an injury overturn accident. so it did take a while to clear. traffic also quickly backed up down the eastshore freeway. right now we're seeing a few brake lights past ashby heading towards powell at emeryville. that is traffic. back to you. >> california's minimum wage workers are getting a bump in pay. the senate and the assembly approved a bill to push the minimum pay to $9 an hour by 2014 and up another $1 to $10 by 2016 but not everyone is happy about it. kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran in our newsroom with more. >> repo

lawrence? >> yeah, good morning, guys. we have some great weather coming our way as we get ready for the weekend. summer making a return am we're going to crank those temperatures up starting today. still, we do have a couple of patches of fog if you are headed out the door but not that much most every that out toward the coastline. so as we head in toward the afternoon, these temperatures really going to heat up. right now, mostly clear out over the bay bridge at this hour. the temperatures running in the 50s and a couple of 60s well inland. i think though as we head in toward the afternoon though these temperatures going to get hot in spots as high as 94 in livermore today. 90 in napa. about 85 in san jose. and 76 in san francisco. more on that weekend forecast in a moment. right now let's check the roads with elizabeth. overall big picture the roads look good. we are getting word of a couple of smaller fender-benders including one in pleasanton. the southbound lanes of 680 by stoneridge, there was a two-car crash. it lo
