abc7 news reporter is near the scene at oregon street at telegraph avenue. amy? >> the fire was coming from the top of the building and you can see it has destroyed the building where the firefighters saw flames shooting from the windows. they forced entry to try to get to the man on the top floor but we are told he didn't make it and he passed away. residents say they got out okay. eight or nine people live in the building and there are few units inside the building. a woman woke up to screaming. she did not realize her building was on fire. there were police officers and residents running around trying to make sure everyones with awake and able to escape. our neighborhoods were awake with their dog trying to get us to get out and i ran downstairs and banged on everyone's door to make sure the people downstairs knew it was happening and to get out. >> this happened at 1:30 this morning, residents say the man who lived on the top floor has lived here for 20 years and not a berkeley student. he is elderly, older. other residents are not students so no students in

what can oregon expect today? >> i wish i could say no more rain but, unfortunately, more rain in the forecast for them and even more wind expected in the forecast. you can see what it looked like from the weekend. starting on saturday and it does not let up. the rain continued one after the next. next band after another. all things with a couple of fronts that moved through region. we are looking at record rainfall. portland has set the record for september at 4.83 inches. the last one if you're curious was 4.3 in 1986. they are not alone. portland and seattle set daily records on saturday. not a monthly record for seattle yet but either way a good 5 inches of rain already for seattle there. what are we looking at? a big low hanging off the coastline. the rain funneled that moisture off the ocean. of course, they are talking about more rain. what i mentioned here. not small amounts. another 2 to 4 inches around the border between portland and seattle. heavy rain expected and when you have the big temperature diff

the two-alarm fire happened on oregon and telegraph streets at an apartment building. >> the morgan hill fire on mount diablo is still burning. the fire is 20% contained this morning. mount diablo state park is still closed because of the fire. kpix 5's cate caugiran is with the firefighters at their base camp in dublin this morning. cate. >> reporter: michelle, we can see that the new round of firefighters are getting ready for the day actually getting their breakfast right now for the morning before that 7:00 briefing that they are going to have here at the base camp. so we know that they are going to go through that briefing. after that they will head over to mount diablo. and then they are going to relieve the firefighters that have been there overnight. the morgan hill has now tripled in size. it's burned more than 3700 acres. it's about 20% contained. cal fire says they are throwing as many resources at that fire as they can. floor 700 firefighters on the line trying to keep the flames at bay. yesterday they deployed four air tankers and 11 helicopters to try and douse these flames

the heavy rain has brought flash flooding to all three states of washington, oregon, and idaho. boise, you've been getting wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. so these intense storms are tracking their way not only from the south, but they're moving out of the cascades towards the west. so it's an unusual direction for storms to take, especially when they're this powerful. be aware if you're in the pacific northwest, these rain rates are high and the winds are gusty. we have a 51-mile-per-hour wind gust reported at boise where all the burn area from local wildfires in idaho state and oregon, we're very concerned about landslides and mudslides not only through the night tonight from the very heavy rainfall but through the first part of the day tomorrow. the rain rates will continue to come down, and winds will continue to be very strong. so be aware of that as the center of low pressure tracks on shore. this is a cold area of low pressure, and it's powerful, too. it's going to slowly move east. we're expecting it to hang around even through the weekend bringing rainshowers in the
