i did my student teaching there as a masters student at s.f. state. i'll be working with two students from the masters program in the tsaw program at sf state. so, that's important. they are really fearful of what could happen in the next year with the special trustee because we feel like civic center campus might be vulnerable to being closed and i would really like to advocate that we need to keep the vic i can center campus open. i was speaking with edgar torres who is the chair of latino studies department and he noted that as the mission becomes more gentrified, a lot of immigrants are moving to the tenderloin ~ and we really need to be able to serve that population. i also just want to make the point that over the last year the faculty and staff at ccsf formed 14 different work groups to address every recommendation that the accjc cited us on and we put in a lot of hours to try and meet their recommendations.

mayor, could you please outline your objections to the clean power s.f. program as approved last year on an 8 to 3 vote by the board of supervisors? >> thank you, board president chiu. i agreed with the majority of the public utilities commission when they asserted that the community choice aggregation program that was presented to them no longer had any direct immediate local environmental benefit. but the lack of a true climate change impact of this cca is not its only fatal flaw. it's also gotten progressively more expensive as time has gone on. back in 2007 the board insisted that a cca program would meet or beat pg&e's rate, meaning that cca power should cost 7.9 cents or less per kilowatt hour. the theory was that if we wanted to convince people to participate in a green energy program, we couldn't hit them with massive monthly bills or they'd likely opt out. that was good logic. but over the years the costs crept up and up and up, and last year this board authorized the puc to set rates at 12.8 cents per kilowatt hour. we ran the risk of large scal

she's been so helpful in many other things and many of you know she's helping me on hope s.f., provide housing opportunities for some of our worst dilapidated housing. now she's also again stepped up with additional partners. and i want to just signal to you some of these historic partners that are working with us. the [speaker not understood] foundation, the haase junior and senior foundations, as well as the asian pacific fund amongst many other foundations that are assisting us. this is a $1.2 million initiative over the next three years with the city providing about half of the funding and the foundations stepping up with the other half. but the real work is going to be done at the community level. the community organizations that are going to be working with us on numerous and they reflect all the different ethnicities that i just mentioned. but i want to mention a few to give them some special thank you because they're stepping beyond what they've traditionally done and going into the mold of going beyond just the citizenship count and now into services into this new orientation

long-time student and current student at city college, the last 12 years on and off, i'm also a graduate of s.f. state. i'm growing gravely concerned what's been happening, what's been going on in our community here with potential threat and loss of our great institution here. and, so, there's many other folks behind me that want to speak. i just wanted to show my support as well as a student for the measures to save our school. and i wanted to bring up just a couple of points, small points. funding is a crucial issue here with enrollment, something that's been brought up here as well as economic analysis for the impact. it costs about $6,000 per class to buy a class at city college. if we leverage that comparing that to the amount of money that we're going to lose, something should be considered. there should be some kind of emergency funding available for this kind of cause that we can leverage, that can be given to help us stem that kind of flow or loss of enrollment. certainly the public support for enrollment is a measure from all of our elected leaders should be a given. i also wanted to

department of public health for their great work on reducing obesity in our communities, promoting shape up s.f. and healthy life styles in our communities as well. i wanted to say that several months ago we called a hearing on our city's tap water outreach program and the expansion -- efforts to expand our outdoor tap water filling stations as an effort to reduce the use of plastic water bottles, but also to promote more of a healthy living for everyone. many of us know that drinking water is beneficial, tremendously beneficial to our health and that tap water, unlike bottled water, is also good for our pocket books and the environment as well. and the public utilities commission, the puc, has worked along with the department of public health to educate residents to drink as much tap water as possible. i think [speaker not understood] and different efforts at the community level have been really beneficial, but we absolutely need to increase the ability of people to use their own refillable water bottles. and unlike bottled water, hetch hetchy tap water costs less than a half a penny per gallo
