and this issue about saving city college is really important to us and the students that we work with. city college is a staple of education within the city. we don't only want to see city college saved. we want to see city college improved. we want to see city college addressing some of the historic issues of racial inequity, the achievement gap for students of color, especially african-american students, the amount of time that it takes students to graduate when they get into city college. so, we were really would like to see you take leadership in bringing the community together to build more support around saving city college, while most definitely including the fact we need to strive to improve the situations at city college that aren't working for students to make them successful. there's a lot of pressure to have a narrative that doesn't include equity and i want to most definitely make sure that as we continue to speak about this that we talk about equity. we put students at the center of the conversation and really make sure that it's guided by what's going to make sure stude

by other city departments so you can donate things for free for other departments to use and saves money and departments that need something can go to the virtual warehouse first to see if there is a desk and a filing cabinet or a chair and they can get it for free by picking up those items from the donating department. >> so, what is recyclable in san francisco? well, bottle and cans, glass, colors, and even the lids alum um cans, and tin cans and even foil. people ask do i need to wash it? empty it out and give it a rinse, clean paper, and that is glossy paper and white paper and cardboard and things like phone books or envelopes even if there there is a window or a metal. plastics are confusing because there are a lot of plastics, don't look at the number any more, don't look for the symbol on the bottom of the container, ignore that altogether. the best way to know if it is recyclable is if it is not a film such as a bag wrapper, you can actually recycle it. if it is a hard plastic such as a bolts or a tub or your plastic coffee lid put it in your blue bin, material is taken to pier

and as many of us have been looking forward to saving the city college and with the involvement of the other supervisors. i've been lincoln to trustees and the city college administration and faculty and staff and the coalition so save city college it serves over 80 thousand stuts students looking to improve their students. but there's critical timing right now. the biggest support we can offer is to encourage people to continue to enroll but there's much more we can do as identified at the hearing and in the community town halls. i authored this along r with supervisor cowen to allow the city to support the college through the criticize. a suggestion came up with the working administration and faculty and staff and i'm still interested in completing that work group. i took part in the coalition crisis and there's a clear consensus we work together as one in san francisco with the trustees to keep our schools open. we have to keep the energy going and show how or replaceable our colleges are. i'm going to introduce this it's a study of the negative consequences of putting 5 hundred fac

city college. help us rebuild and reanything else our public housing no more poverty housing. help us invest in our schools with better education for our children and continue to help our young people. for those of you who helped in our summer programs just two days ago we had a goal of 6 thousand not only did we get it done but we created and gave out and established 6 thousand 2 hundred jobs for our kids that's reach. now let me give you fair warning now that we've met our goal public-private partnerships like summer jobs plus is the way that our city succeeds. and in fact, we have a popcorn in the audience who can help us with the bike sharing program. so i know that supervisor wiener is probably out here in the crowd somewhere and thank you for your leadership in expanding this program but your cities great success would be incomplete if we didn't help folks on the streets. if we work together we can move forward on really progress on homelessness. we'll sustain this economic recovery and exten

we'd be dependent upon shell oil to help us reach our city's climate goals. and this certainly doesn't help reduce greenhouse gas emissions here in san francisco. this is all to say the public utilities commission did its job, protecting the rate payers when it made a fair and informed decision that the environmental benefits of cca had degraded so significantly. supervisor, that's not defying the board of supervisors. in fact, the city attorney, dennis herrera's office [speaker not understood] that the commission is authorized, not required or compelled, but authorized to set rates for community choice aggregation. so, the public utilities commission took a look at the latest version of cca and said, this is not what the board adopted and this isn't good for the rate payers. i would submit that the commissioners exercised their oversight rule as an independent commission under the charter and i'd argue that protecting tax payers and rate payers is precisely what the commission exists to do. supervisor, you asked what my office is doing to support the city's

to reach the climate goals. >> and employees, and employers, realize cost savings through the use of commuter benefits programs, of course, the employees get to enjoy lower cost commutes and employers enjoy, savings on payroll taxes including fica and they also enjoy usually happier employees. requiring commuter benefits has the number of positives, and businesses have really supported this program over the past five years. and responded positively. and as you can see here, over the past five years that we have been implementing the program the number of bitss that have worked with us has increased dramatically, from 2009 to 2013, we have seen a 400 increase in the number of businesses that are working with us on our program and we are hoping through the coming years through more and more improvements in the out reach program that we can reach even more. >> and in 2012, we heard that about 3800 businesses in san francisco were offering commuter benefits of those businesses, nearly 40 percent reported that the ordinance inspired them to offer the commuter benefit in the first place an
