navy yard in southeast washington. as many as three shooters including one in military fatigues is on the scene, according to a report by "the washington post." shortly after 8:20 this morning, there were shorts fired inside the command headquarters building on the grounds of the washington navy yard you see there on the banks of the river. there are conflicting reports as we see the scenes live coming in of the number of people shot. a spokesman for the police is confirming that maybe four victims were shot, including one who was a police officer. other reports are suggesting as many as ten people were shot. by the way, the police saying as many as four fatalities may have taken place, and 10 people shot and possibly 12 and a second officer. once again, those reports have not been independently confirmed. by numbers, there are about 3,000 people that work inside the massive fortress which is called the naval sea systems command headquarters. emergency teams are on the ground working right now to provide shelter to all

i'm wolf blitzer in washington. the washington nationals and atlanta braves are playing baseball right now. yesterday's game was postponed due to the shootings at the navy yard, which is literally just a few blocks away from the ballpark, washington nationals park. today's game began with a moment of silence. navy yard here in washington, d.c. but there's a multiple -- there's a multitude, shall we say, law enforcement agencies on the scene. you mentioned the fbi, u.s. military police, d.c. metropolitan police. it looks like everybody has moved into this area, evan. >> yes, that's right. wolf, there's a very -- this is an area in washington because of obviously of all of the different threats that are faced with the federal government and the military facilities in this area, they are very well practiced in this area. the d.c. police, for instance, does a lot of drills. they roll out on multiple reports of bags that are left unguarded or unattended near metro stations or outside of public buildings. i mean, multiple times a day these guys roll out to try to secure scenes. so this is something that they are well practiced in. the joint terrorism task force is part of this as well. they -- this is a grouping of the federal agencies and the local police of this entire area and they are all well practiced in trying to secure pl
