. >> reporter: hi there, janelle. well, truancy laws, they don't -- school districts do not have to enforce truancy laws and that could be a policy that will be very expensive not only for the district but for the student community. students who cut class in san jose have a good chance of being picked up by san jose police because there's a correlation between truant teens and daytime burglaries. a new report today shows that california's elementary school students are truant at an alarming rate as well. in the bay area, elementary truancy rates very by county with alameda, contra costa and san francisco at more than 20%. santa clara county at 14%. san mateo at 12.9%. according to the california attorney general's office, that's a cost to districts of $1.4 billion a year. add to that the cost to their community. >> for every kid we lose to truancy, and then as a dropout, is a tenfold factor increase in their chances of future criminality. >> reporter: the santa clara county district attorney's office prosecutes 100 tr

. >> hi, janelle. this is just one of the spots that the pigs have dug up and the general manager says that the pigs they will have to dig up all the grass damaged by the pigs looking for grub, scrape it all away and recede it and then wait for it to grow and that isn't even the worse of it. not far from where i'm standing, the pig dug up half the hillside and forced club management to put a fence around the entire green fixing the green is really expensive. the club also treated the grass to eliminate the grubs that they come looking for. they sealed one of the routes the pigs take from the quick silver mountains on to the course in search of water and food. they even put staff on the course overnight to shoo the pigs away, but the pigs have been coming for a month and in the last week they have gotten more disruptive. >> the pigs are determined, they're aggressive and they're stubborn and they're very smart. with a keen sense of smell coming back to an area they want to feed. >> now, the pigs also to

i'm janelle wang. >> i'm jessica aguirre. want to show you what it looks like, again, a sig alert has been issued in san francisco right now. you're looking at live pictures above the scene right now. again, this is at the 280 connector with southbound 101. near the silver terrace exit in the portola neighborhood. it's a major mess right thousand. apparently what we're hearing is that that big rig slammed into the guardrail and you're seeing now lots and lots of traffic and how far it's extending. but it slammed into that guardrail. it's just virtually stopping traffic. there's also debris falling on the lanes of northbound 101 below. now, as the chopper gets closer, you can see that there are firefighters on scene. there's also a tow truck and they're trying to strap now that big rig and try to move it off that ledge and try to put it back on and try to move it out of that location. but, again, a nerve-racking situation. a sig alert. traffic is really just really backed up at this point. good news is so far, no injuries have

i'm janelle wang. jessica aguirre is on assignle. >> i'm raj mathai. a developing story, this afternoon livermoore police announced the arrest of a hayward cop accused of sexually abusing girls he taught at an after school program. girls at middle and elementary schools. a lot of concerned parents tonight. >> reporter: raj, good evening. that's right. the first victim to come to police is now an adult. she claims robert mcleod abused her six years ago but only recently decided to come forward. as 38-year-old hayward police officer richard scott mcleod sits in santa rita jail held on $750,000 bail, police say they are interviewing his alleged victims who were girls when mcleod was the lead coordinator of the kid zone after school program in livermore. >> he was the teacher. he was the one that everybody liked. and he would hang out with them afterwards when the place was closed. >> reporter: police say the alleged abuse took place between 1998 and 2007. involving girls between the ages of 12 and 14. mcleod was arrested saturday on suspicion of sexual co

>> reporter: hi there, janelle. manuel urzoua's homicide was one of eight homicides that happened between january and september of this year. during the same period last year, there were almost double the number of gang homicides when the gang task force was not active. now, the department says that the task force is making a difference in bring iing those numbers down, and also helping to solve the crime. on june 16th, days into san jose's police chief larry escovel's suppression plan, 16-year-old manuel urzoua was beaten and shot in a neighborhood. >> it was gang related. >> reporter: urzoua's murder created such a threat of violent retaliation that the chief called stakeholders into a weekend meeting. almost four months to the day, six gang members are under arrest. 19-year-old juan tafolla godinez is awaiting extradition to san jose. he along with 25-year-old olson garcia sanchez and 22-year-old jorge ibarez are charged with murder with gang enhancement. also 17-year-old zamora was charged as an adult on friday
