cnn's karen mcginnis, she drew the short straw today, she's outside. oh, karen. winter is still eight weeks away? >> it is, and we had a brief period of fall around here, but we have quickly jumped into what feels like winter temperatures and much of the eastern seaboard saying an early frost, freeze advisories. let's go ahead and show you some 17 states now reporting frost and freeze advisories and up and down the eastern seaboard all the way from philadelphia to richmond into charlotte, into columbia, south carolina, montgomery, alabama. well in the forecast, there's an area of low pressure that's sweeping across the great lakes on the backside of that, more cold air blowing in, so minnesota, dakotas, it will be brisk, temperatures very cold, but along the eastern seaboard you will see the sunshine, but those temperatures not going to be warming up terribly much. the temperatures that we're seeing overnight or early this morning may not be record-setting temperatures, but they are exceptionally early. boston, reporting 38 degrees right now. philadelphia, 39. in

let's get to karen mcginnis keeping track of the latest forecast. how is it locking today, karen? >> we are watching it closely along the eastern seaboard, kate, chris, good morning to you. our temperatures will pretty much remain above normal. be you the rainfall is desperately needed across the northeast. you are running about half of what you totally would for the total month of october. it will take a frontal system before you start to see that. high pressure dominates right now. as we go through tomorrow, those temperatures back up into the 70s. we think two next weather systems will knock those temperatures down. new york is 53. washington, d.c. 58. you would think it would be hotter pittsburgh reporting 62 degrees right now. there is a system that will produce significant snowfall, from billings, montana to the saltess mountain, front range of the rockies, the snowfall in those higher peaks as much as 12 inches, but a windy day expected across colorado. those temperatures only going to be in the 50s, so if you are headed to the west along that interstate 25, watch out. it c

karen mcginnis is in for indra petersons. how's it looking everywhere? >> the deep freeze, a continuation of that over the next several days, we see very little in the way of moderation, even by the weekend. take, for instance, cleveland, the temperatures should be typically around 60 degrees this time of year. only in the 40s now. 40s in chicago. a little bit of snow, a couple of days ago. by saturday, it should be 50 degrees but even then the temperatures close to 10 degrees below where it should be for this time of year. and new york city, temperatures running a good 10 to 15 degrees below normal there as well. bessemer, michigan, in the past 24 hours we saw 6 inches of snowfall. lesser amounts wrapped around the great lakes. we have an area of low pressure moving through the great lakes. that kicks up the wind. some of the wind may gust as high as 40 miles an hour later on today. cleveland, 14 degrees below normal. new york city, only 54 degrees for this afternoon but with the brisk wind, it's going to make it feel a whole lot colder we'll be back wi
