kristen, what can you tell us from where you are? >> well, krystal, president obama has been briefed on what happened. they are monitoring the situation here. senior administration officials in contact with law enforcement officials as they try to get to it the bottom of exactly what happened. i was just inside the white house a few moments ago. i can tell you that some of the staffers, top officials here behind closed doors are meeting as they monitor this situation. outside pennsylvania avenue, which is the road right outside the white house, parts of that are shut down. they have brought in extra law enforcement just as an extra precaution. that is not unusual. that is something you would expect when there is any perceived threat to the white house. they have pushed all of the onlookers to the park across the street. a lot of them have just stuck around to try to watch this incredible event unfold. what they're watching really is extra security, which has been brought in. i can tell you that the white house itself is not on lockdo

kristen and matt? >> many commuters expect to pass the bart stations -- pack the bart stations with shuttles. what is happening, amy? >> kristen, look at this line. it has grown five times the size it was 30 minutes ago. these people are waiting for a 5:00 bus, a free shuttle bart is providing. they. get to the city quickly. friday, this bus took only 40 minutes to get to the city. people are finding themselves in the city at 5:40, very early, for their jobs. >> i need to be at work at 8:30. my first 90 days at work and i don't want to be late and call my boss the first 90 days and say i can't make it. >> this is early for 8:30 start. >> it is frustrateing. yesterday i was with my family to spend some time with them and had to cut it short because of this. >> he gets to the office and takes a nap. if you would like to take a bus they are available at nine bart stations. they will run from 5:00 a.m. until 8:00 in the morning and they bring people home between 3:00 and 7:00. it is a round-trip offering.

kristen and matt? >> we have a bright spot this morning and that is that the ferries running on the bart strike schedule. good news for commuters who are going that route. katie marzullo is in oakland with the latest on how the ferries are going. >> if people are upset with bart they are happy with the ferries. we saw the 6:00 a.m. ferry leave and it is clear but the new line is just forming. ferries are being generous and letting stragglers on three and four minutes after the hour saying run, you can make it, we will hold the boat. i talked with a couple of people would made it. a woman says she planned to take the ferry yesterday but she heard the strike was off so she planned to take bart and she woke up and found the trains were late so she was back on a ferry. a man out of breath and his tie was not even tied and three was headed to bart but he heard them were late so he found himself on the gerri. the ferry is running extra boats today and extra runs so they can help out. it is the strike schedul

kristen dahlgren has more this morning. good morning, kristen. >> reporter: good morning, erica. it appears the teens are slowly being returned to their families, but investigators are very concerned. this is remote new mexico. we're about three hours south of albuquerque. not much out here. but normally teens are living at the 30,000-acre ranch. on friday, though, when authorities got here, it was completely abandoned. tiara blanca ranch, claiming to be a haven for those at risk. >> we'll make you part of our family. >> reporter: this morning the focus of a search and investigation, after nine boys were reported missing on friday. >> when you suddenly show up to the place and everybody's gone, a huge concern to us. >> reporter: authorities issued an amber alert for the teens, ages between 13 and 17, fearing they might be in danger. the ranch owner was also gone. at least four boys were returned to their families saturday. but as the search by air and land of the massive 30,000-acre ranch continues, they wonder what took place here. they were court ordered to return the boys to t

kristen. >> reporter: the republican national committee is offering to pay five security guards. you can see the memorial for the moment is still closed to the public. earlier today, there were tons of protesters right outside these barricades holding signs like, mr. president, congress, tear down this wall and finally the national park service sees this memorial, finally, they agreed they would open it. but only for world war ii veterans who came here through the honor flight program. that's a program that flies veterans here. about 200 were allowed in today. the park service says they will allow more veterans in today and friday, but everyone else, they are being kept out, including this couple who had come all the way to see the memorial from england. >> it's so disappointing because you know, you just can't get in and you come all this way. we come thousands of miles just to get in these memorials and have a look around and sage do not enter, you know, this memorial is closed and -- >> several members of congress from both parties out here to meet the veterans and a lot of th

kristen ayers tells us who is getting what. >> the details emerging show bart workers scored big. as far as pay, workers will get a 15.4% raise over four years. that's about 3 1/2 percent more than bart was offering before the unions went on strike. employees will have to start contributing 4% to their pension by 2017, but bart has agreed to reimburse a portion of whatever they put in. and workers monthly medical premiums will go up from $92 to $130 no matter how many people are on their plan. so that is still quite a bargain. the question, what did bart get out of this? they won some victories on work rules, they also got to kill an important rule that allowed workers to pull in large amounts of overtime. bart workers will also get some safety upgrades, including bullet proof glass at more than a dozen stations. unions are expected to vote on the contract by next week. >> kristen, you have been following this process from the very beginning. who is the real winner here? is there one? >> i think without a question, the unions got the most out of this deal. bart gave up a big pay r

kristen. >> reporter: we may get an update in a short amount of time. the breaking point came down to a group of work rules. bart wanted workers to work 40 hours a week before logging overtime. they wanted workers to receive their pay stubs electronically rather than on paper. those small differences, enough to spark a strike. after 36 hours of marathon negotiating, the clash came and it was nasty. >> it's not management that asked for a strike, it's the union. >> this is not a union strike. this is a management strike. brought on by absolute arrogance. >> public jabs taken as a strike was announced. the nation's top negotiator walked out. >> george, who is a top mediator has left. he pretty much know that talks can be few tall. >> the mediator worked on 3,000 labor disputes. a public relations campaign. it looks like a risky game of chicken. each side watching to see who blinks first. and how the public reacts to a strike. >> will the riders tell the board, give them more or will the riders say, we hate this, but don't give them more? >> so far, our po

kristen. >> yeah, liz, there was a lot of back and forth today. the offer that the unions put forward today, similar to one they proposed yesterday that bart rejected. there were some tweaks, but not enough for bart management to consider agreeing to get the trains going again. day one of the bart strike and the unions came out with a plan to end it. this plan would allow us to reach an agreement without going back to the bargaining table and therefore, it would allow us to end the strike immediately upon signing. >> union offer to take the pay, tension, and healthcare issues that both sides agree on and send a sticking point, the work world to an independent arbitrator to make a final decision. in a hastily called news conference, bart management slapped the plan down. >> union letters is a repeat of the same unacceptable offer they made at the bargaining table yesterday. >> it's not the same thing. >> bart management wants the unions to come back to the bargaining table and consider sending the entire package to arbitration, not pieces of it. th

i'm matt keller in for eric thomas. >> i'm kristen sze. downed trees, power knocked out, cars hit by branches, all the result of a night of very windy weather across the bay area. and it continues. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield starts off our team coverage in diablo. >> we had a tree down right here in the middle of this road and the last 30 minutes they've brought a chainsaw out here and managed to break it up into some pieces and move it out of the way. you can see it's still a mess out here. lots of debris that comes down along with these trees. and to show you a better example of that, look at this video we took overnight in oakland where a tree came down and also a lot of leaves and branches along with it. this happened at skyline and redwood road near highway 13 and when this tree came down, it even started a small fire that didn't do a lot of damage and was put out quickly. but when it comes down, it brings trouble with it. the winds were very powerful overnight, just causing all kinds of problems around the bay area. >> even c
