strong police presence here in downtown oakland. you can spot police officers almost at every street corner. but the focus is right here outside of the oakland marriott hotel. that is where you'll have several thousand law enforcement officers today checking in for the three day urban shield convention outside, as you can see, a small group of occupy protesters are demonstrating. so far it's been peaceful. now, some video we shot earlier of the 40 or so protesters happened out here all day long. they were urban shield promotes police brutality. about 5,000 public safety officers at the bay and around the world will participate in field exercises that weekend. occupy proteasers say those same tactics were used against them in previous clashes with police. there are concerns about vandalism. that's why so many officers are out here in downtown oakland. unlike previous protest where officers were told to stay back, even if they see people smash windows or set fire, oakland police say this time they'll move in immediately. >> any type o

oakland police are getting ready for a long day of protests. the concern is two events in the downtown area that could add up to double trouble. now today is the second anniversary of the eviction of the occupy oakland demonstrators from outside oakland city hall. this is also the day police officers from all over the nation will descend on downtown oakland. its start of a three-day training exercise. its designed to get ready for first responders to be ready for a terrorist attack or natural disaster. this morning occupy oakland members will protest outside the city center hotel. that is where 100 vendors will be setting up selling their weapons and equipment to the law enforcement officers attending urban shield. >>> demolition began today on the new town connecticut school where 20 first graders and six adults were gunned down last year. security is extremely tight. workers have been required to sign agreements banning them from discussing the project and onlookers are barred from approaching the site. officials hope to finish that demolitio

that's how fast oakland police say this guy was going when he slammed into this door. it was about an hour and a half ago that paramedics were on scene taking care of the person behind the wheel of that stolen vehicle. that is because when oakland police showed up, when they saw that this guy crashed into the front of this garage the guy was trying to get away. police told him to stop. the person did not. police say. sand that's when an officer pulled his taser and tased the man that was apparently driving that stolen vehicle. paramedics treated him and he is in custody of police. they say he is going to face several charges including possessing a stolen vehicle and attempting to run from police. police are sort of wrapping up their investigation because they have who they believe is the only person responsible for this in custody. the owners of this storage garage are going to have quite a mess to clean up and one totaled vehicle inside. chase cain, "today in the bay." >> thank you, chase. now to the ongoing negotiations between b.a.r.t. and its unions. of course the
