then i saw then i went to hustler i went to i mean i started doing the magazine circuit and then i was a political posing nude yeah i always wanted to be a show girl in las vegas because my mother was a lead dancer at the follies barrage there and in las vegas and i wanted to be just like her but you know ended up stripping. and of course father how did you get into the the adult business it's kind of a snowball effect you know once you start doing magazines you start getting approached by a lot of the adult producers so i saw an opening that you know there this is a totally male industry and i thought you know just if he's man that don't really know what sexy so i thought if i there isn't i'm going to go in there and just crush people did you become a star immediately i did i did i just saw on purchases right yeah yeah i mean we read a star on the mother of d.v.d. sales and you know i was drivers porn movie my first porn was up and comers ten and eleven oh my god so embarrassing but yeah. kind of really very young what was the first the first time you had to have sex being photographe

i thought i have to hike it. i promised publishers i would deliver a book. and in interviews i announced i'm hiking the appalachian trail. so i sort of publicly committed to it. i a book contract in the back pocket. my sense of failure was really profound. believe me. and yet, you know, i also realized simultaneously with all of that i'm not going to do it. i can't do. it's not the physical side of it. which is hard enough but it's the mental side of it. and the idea can you go this? can you be separate for your family for five months. put up with the sort of endless repetition and the kind of roughing it. going night after night without showers and hot meals and those kinds of nights. it's hard. it takes a lot. your son, i'm full of admiration of him and anybody who does the appalachian trail from end-to-end. whether they walk it in one stretch or section hikes. it's an incredible achievement. you can't imagine how far 2200 miles until you try to walk 2200 miles. it was a disappointment to me i didn't do it. but after a kind of agonizing over it for a few d

i don't know how i got the book. i was interested in tv and studied it in college and came upon "the wired nation" in which he offered a view. at the time, there were few tvs wired to cable television. and he offered a view of every tv set in america hooked up to a hardwire where, if you recall, not only a diversity of national channels, but he was really focused on local and thought that there would be this robust local editorial television opportunity that was sort of -- if one can analogize -- something like an electronic newspaper. it seemed actually that his vision was grand and i thought perhaps exaggerated who knew -- and i thought perhaps exaggerated. who knew that he would be right on the money? then the entire nation would be absolutely wide and along the -- wired and along the way there would be satellite alternatives and a second wired alternative. the unthinkable at the time is that, alongside all of it, there would be a worldwide internet. question one of the stories often told about you leaving college
