i'm joined now by lanny davis, the attorney for rodriguez' league and media team and joe carter with cnn sports. all right, gentlemen. lanny, begin with you. background for a lot of folks. you're author of a couple crisis tales, and you've also worked with big clients in crisis management from the clinton administration even to martha stewart. so lanny, you first. explain your role for the rodriguez team. >> well, i focus on violations of fairness and due process, and rather than using the general expression ethical rules, let me state a fact, not denied by major league baseball. they paid $125,000 in cash for stolen property delivered in a satchel in fort lauderdale, florida. more out of a scene from boardwalk empire than our national pastime. those investigative tactics and the fact bud selig doesn't have the guts, after announcing someone is guilty on national television, before the trial begins, he doesn't have the guts to show up in person to be cross-examined, my role is to point out the absence of fairness and the loss of perspective by commissioner selig on the legacy he owes

i'm joined now by lawyer and crisis manager lanny davis. good to see you. he served as special counsel during the clinton administration. and he's also an author of the book "crisis tales." perhaps the white house or the president will be picking up this book in the coming days. lanny, you say you support the affordable care act. but you see major problems in how the white house is handling the issue. if you were to advise the president what would you tell him to do next? >> first of all, i think he got it right. the most recent time or thing that he got it wrong, and president clinton gave him good advice. and i think it's good that you have two presidents who are close. and who are friends. and that president clinton actually helps him by saying, look, we made a promise. it's not the perfect world where you have high-level coverage, which is what's intended by the affordable care act. it's the an imperfect world. we can't make our promise. but i hate blaming this on just president obama. let me say i have the misunderstanding that people didn't have to lo

the most significant thing that happened was lanny davis hopping on one of the evening shows and saying don't blame president obama. all democrats should apologize because we have been pushing for universal health care and it's working. i thought to myself, this is the moment where everybody is going to come together and my idea isn't good. let's have an idea that's going to work. my feel as good there's no way president obama has a master plan to collapse the system and only leaving the single payer out t. same people that brought you that website and are so detached are not the same people that have the master plan. >> you said it needed to be tweaked. it needed to be completely wiped out. >> i don't think sonch. >> it was terrible. the cost of medicine was way out in front of inflation. things were not working. >> but why -- >> people come here for our top level medical plans. >> why did there have to be a total overhaul. why couldn't they start small to tweak the system rather than reforming one third of the entire u.s. economy. >> you said something important, the cost of medical c

davis. stories like that in part we believe led to the dozen or so democrats having a meeting with president obama tonight to say what are uh you going to do about this. what's going to be done? forget broken promises. as a pure political matter they are likely to be held accountable next fall. >> congratulations first of all on a great show. i have followed you for a long time. i'm a supporter of the affordable care act. my dad, since harry truman first introduced and endorsed legislation for national health care taught me that everyone uh should have access to quality health care. this has gone wrong. we democrats like myself who supported this legislation need admit that it's gone wrong. president obama needs to tell the american people he under estimated the number of changes that would occur by regulation that would cost more money, causing people to lose their health insurance policies. he needs to say, i'm going to fix this by going back to the regulations that caused higher costs tha

martha: let's play lanny davis on this this morning. >> president obama and all democrats should say i support this act which i do. we messed up in explaining it. we should have told people you might have to change plans and that will cost you more. we need to fix it. martha: what we are hearing the president is those bad apple insurance companies, they tossed you off their plan. not our fault. >> this is the president deflecting blame to the insurance companies. there is a bill in the house and senate that is told the keep your doctor act saying what was promised can be done. makes perfect sense. martha: it's like when you are doing those things where you do the blocks and you pull a block out and the whole thing tumbles down. the whole thing is based on people who like their health insurance can't necessarily keep it. 30 million is a big part of that thing. >> we have to fix it the best we can. build the blocks back up. >> in 2010 senate republicans said we want americans to be able to keep their plan. we want to make sure that as guaranteed. harry reid and obama said absolutely no

dagen: with more we are joined by lanny davis, counsel to president clinton joining us from washington d.c.. so good to see you. this is turning out to be a case study what not to do in a crisis. still not getting so many parts of this right. >> the crisis management if i could -- in crisis tails, get all the ducks out. and if you mess up. and, will pour hillary clinton introducer health-insurance plan. and the fairness everyone had access to health care. and if i have as a liberal democrat every other democrat in crisis management terms to hit the reset button and start to look for a bipartisan solution to fixing these problems. dagen: bipartisan solution, you pointed this out, private companies and insurance companies have been in the business of operating private exchanges and they should, the white house should have invited these changes in trying to fix this problem, that would be a concession, democrats like private business can do it that the federal government, that is something they might not want to admit. >> hard to understand why they don't want to admit it because the depa
