we are going to check in with christina loren and mike inouye. first, let's start out with bob redell. he is live at san francisco international airport with a look at what travelers are facing. good morning, bob. >> reporter: all morning long, no delays or cancellations until a few moments ago. we checked the boards. we are now seeing a couple of delays. a 15-minute delay for flight headed out to jfk. . travelers will be up against a view from outter space. this extends from texas to the northeast. it has been producing storm warnings up down the east coast. the problem, primarily, heavy winds and rains, a good possibility of snow. we ended up speaking with the spokesperson here at sfo. here is how things could end up playing out the rest of the day locally. >> in terms of conditions in the northeast, it sounds like it is still developing. it is anybody's guess right now what it is looking like. we are already hearing of some delays going to the philadelphia area. some delays going to new york, laguardia. that doesn't so much effect us. for us,

and mike inouye, our traffic reporter again, mike, they tell us about 6:00 is when they will start possibly reopening the lanes but they are not sure. >> thank you. damian continues to follow that situation. a tragedy there as far as your morning commute so far there's also an impact determined to be a sigalert. probably an hour and maybe more depending on the circumstances. get you located where this is relative, here is the bay area. south bay at the bottom. coming out of san jose, milpitas and up to fremont. scott creek road. you see orange sensors that it slowed. approaching damian's area. that's when the commute is getting started. traditionally counter commute. the bulk coming south out of fremont and into milpitas. but we do have slowing past that scene. use northbound 880, cross over at mission boulevard which is clear but we do see a little bit of traffic flow starting to build in the last few minutes. so people aren't already thinking about the alternate, follow this because it will be at least 6:00, maybe longer. we'll get those from damian and follow the effects on your commute.

here is mike inouye. >> good morning. we have a lighter volume of traffic but the metering lights on. here we had a tow truck on the shoulder. they pulled that car in a fender-bender off of the lanes as you hit the inclinl on the bay bridge. now traffic moves smoothly. we look at the bay bridge toll plaza, all of that activity past the lights. that has helped them clear that incident. now the backup at the toll plaza. only basically the end of the parking lot for most of these lanes and building pretty slowly so a lighter volume of traffic now as we look at the map and the maze t approach off highway 24, 580, 880 moving nicely. the east shore freeway is pretty much speeds in the 60 area travel down through el cerrito and toward that berkeley curve. 4 and 24 and the approach, no problems there. a nice smooth flow. the westbound direction through the tri-valley looks smooth to the east bay, slowing there at the pub lin interchange. a lighter volume of traffic for 84 around down toward sunol and 680. the south bay a nicer fl

mike inouye is following what this means for people that could be driving through that area. >> good morning. we're looking here toward 880 and mission and i'll explain why that plays a major part. let's look at the maps. the bay area very light. the bottom of the screen the south bay san jose silicon valley. traveling north on 680 toward the scene where damion is, there is scott creek road outside milpitas into fremont. two of your northbound lanes are blocked. we saw slowing in the southbound direction because that is where there was a distraction by all of the flashing lights and that is generally the commute direction into the south bay out of that area. for the time being until we hear about lanes being reopened and we don't know when, use 880 to the north as you get to mission boulevard, then use the cut over over to 680 around that scene. typically it takes about 90 minutes when this happens this early in the morning but if it's a crime scene we're looking at longer, maybe a lot longer depending on the circumstances. at least 6:00 a.m. till they reopen is my estimate. no offic
