across the country from the cnn weather center. >> let's go live to shannon travis. he's been driving through a wintry mix of snow and rain across pennsylvania. there he is on the side of the road. the conditions out there near pittsburgh so far, shannon. >> yeah, the conditions, the snow has been coming down. you know, when we were driving in, it was pretty much an annoying rain, but when we arrived, it was as if mother nature said welcome to this wicked winter mess. the areas under a winter storm warning right now as you mentioned. we're about 20 miles outside of pittsburgh in a place called irwin. we've been kind of monitoring how much snowfall we've been seeing since we've been out here. just going to use an unofficial ruler, my finger. we estimated about 3 inches of snow right here in this area. i've spoken with officials at the pennsylvania department of transportation. they tell me about 80 plus trucks and 135 crews are going to be out in force tonight working 12-hour shifts apiece. >> shannon travis, with the latest from pennsylvania. you got a sense in the b

shannon, how are the roads doing right now? >> well, john, let me answer that question with something that a state transportation official told me earlier. he essentially said, we dodged a bullet. meaning that the wicked weather that the pittsburgh area was expecting wasn't so wicked after all. they did get a few inches of snow, but the roads have been pretty much clear. we have been driving along them, looking at the roads behind us. they have been pretty much clear. obviously, thanks in part to a lot of crews that have been out, helping to clear the roads. it seems as if most of the wickedness is really in other parts of pennsylvania. you mentioned a lashing in other county said, not here in allegheny where we are in pittsburgh, but in other counties. i spoke earlier with officials. apparently in beaver and lawrence, they got up to 12 inches of snow. the cleaning crews are out in force there. a lot of people are getting out of the airport. i have been in contact with a spokesman at the airport, pittsburgh international. she t

shannon breen is live in d.c. how soon could the supreme court weigh in. >> reporter: this friday the justices are scheduled to decide behind closed doors whether to take up the case filed the a group that is challenging an order giving the national security national security agency sweeping powers to obtain phone data. one hinted the supreme court may have to get involved. justice antonin scalia said it is likely the judicial branch will have to settle these questions and the group that brought the case, they're feeling comfortable it is going to get the votes to move the case forward, shep. >> how is the white house responding? >> it has filed a brief in opposition with the supreme court, urging the justices not to take up the case. what epic has done is unusual. rather than going through the lower courts it filed directly with the supreme court, calling this an extraordinary situation. the government says they have identified no special circumstances that require a statutory challenge to begin in this court. he

shannon bream is here tonight to tell us how it's going. how close are we to the supreme court taking up this birth control mandate issue? >> it could happen within a matter of days. more than 70 of these cases are spread across the country. a handful of them have made it to the courts. it's likely it will be the hobby lobby, that national craft chain store. if they are forced to provide no-cost access to drugs. the government as well is also acting to hear this case because there's a split in the lower courts. there was that ruling on friday by the d.c. circuit that citizen business owners do have a religious liberty that can be violated if they're forced to comply there's a vote ongoing currently -- might be closer to a controversial piece of legislation going to the final vote, if it passes this hurdle. what's this all about? >> we're looking to see if they get to the 60 votes to the nondiscrimination act. the stated goal of this legislation is to make sure that there's no discrimination in the workplace based on sexual orientation for g

recently i received an email from a woman in my district named shannon. she received a letter from her health care provider stating her current policy did not meet the retirements of the affordable care act, and she would have to choose a new plan or go to the health care marketplace to find coverage. she found a comparable plan that costs $400 a month more. this is outrageous. more than 300,000 floridians like shannon received letters that their plans were canceled. premiums and deductibles are increasing for countless americans. so many people received notices their plans were canceled. we have only begun to experience the devastating effects of this law. i submit the next concern of my constituents will be not only that they can't keep their health plan but they won't be able to keep their doctors. we need to get rid of this law and replace it with one that is actually consumer focused and market driven so that americans like shannon can get affordable health care coverage and keep their doctors. i yield back. the speaker pro tempore: the gentleman yie
