joe, listen to this. it would also gradual increase the minimum wage for tip labor and it stands at $2.13 an hour. 70% of the normal minimum wage. the economic policy institute, this is a nonpartisan think tank in d.c. that recently released a report saying passing the minimum wage would affect 21 million workers nationwide. you think about that the fact that this $2.13 for tip labor it's been that way since i was a waiter out of college. that's what i made. >> these kind of numbers have already been stated and make the case even more so for raising the minimum wage. second. the data shows when the minimum wage has been increased over the last 10 to 20 years, this argument that employment goes down and wages go down has refuted the data and shows unemployment actually goes down. so it should be done. but this issue with this 0.01% and 1%, the administration, over the last few years has talked about raising taxes on the wealthy and put that at $225,000. furthermore you have a number of people on that graph

i'm glad it was joe who had to read that, not me. i'm becky quick along with joe kernen and steve liesman. andrew is off the today. another mega deal in social media. facebook buying whatsapp. in a $16 billion transaction. whatsapp is a mobile messaging start-up of 450 million users. the deal involved $4 billion in cash and $12 billion in stock. there's an additional $3 billion in restricted stocks that could vest over several years. the deal moves facebook closer to younger generations. this is a service that is very big in asia and from what i hear it's pretty big in europe, too. we'll talk more about what this means for facebook in just a few minutes. right now, though, facebook shares down by 2.3%. stocks fell yesterday after the release of the fed minutes. the dow dropping about 90 points. you can see right there, 16,040 is the final trade. the s&p 500 traded within a point of a new all-time high before falling 12 points by the end of the day. the futures this morning, at least at this point, is weaker. just barely, though. the
