city. and i wanted to say that i did a, over two hour bike infrastructure tour on bike, looking at probably about 7 miles of their nature bike plan improvements. and the bike bridges over water areas. bike and hiking trails, but it was pretty impressive what their department of public works and department of transportation, i wanted to thank, katherine greger who i had the time to meet with who is the complete street manager and coordinated us sharing the road workshop with a lot of other city council people from the other cities and i also wanted to add that they have a brand new cycle program that was good for me to compare with san francisco's, i know that bcycle has denver, and about 26 other cities, with bike sharing programs. i rode the b cycle from the soko area, and which was south of the downtown, and it was very easy to get into the convention center and the downtown area, but it really efficient bike sharing program with about 1,000 bikes there in that one city. also, there is 40

i am lucky and fortunate that here in the city of san francisco that my salary is set by the city charter. i know that i'm paid equal pay as my male colleagues on this board of supervisors. however, i'm fully aware that if and when i leave city hall that i may make less than my male colleagues after i leave for the same work. and i think it's ip credibly important that as we take this major policy stance that we believe in equal pay for equal work, that we really do that, particularly with the actual entities, our contractors that are paid public dollars, our taxpayer dollars, to make sure that they are pursuing the work of making sure that women get equal pay for equal work. these are organizations and for profit and nonprofit entities that are getting public taxpayer dollars and i believe that we absolutely have a right in those cases to know whether or not women are getting paid the same rate men are for doing equal work within the organizations. i also want to really emphasize the parameters of the ordinance that we are approving today. this ordinance nearly knishates this process. it

budget, the city just enacted a two-year budget and it seems the city is always dealing with complicated issues including whether or not to raise taxes and fees. how will you approach these tough choices? >> i think that when we talk about raising fees or taxes, we always have to come at it from a very balanced approach. we have a lot of homeownerses, we have a lot of tenants in the city. and, so, again balance is really key. i think we also have to approach the budget and some tough fiscal issues looking at the city-wide budget as a whole and not just looking at specific sectors or issue areas that we real have i to look at the city's financial standing as a whole for the long term. that's really important and that's definitely what drives a lot of my decision-making process. and i think it's also tougher in san francisco because we really are held to a very high standard where we have to balance the budget every single fiscal year. we cannot run into a deficit in the new fiscal year. we cannot print more money. we are held to a high standard by our charter and, so, i think that's why t

i guess we are calling it developing an aging-friendly city. we are also looking at how to support senior services and unique neighborhood by neighborhood programs called aging in place or village models that allow people who are older or seniors getting older to be able to support each other and to stay in their homes and communities longer so they can be contributed to the community as long as possible as opposed to institutionalizing them, which costs quite a bit more. so i'm looking with senior group's ideas of how to create more aging in place programs neighborhood by neighborhood as well, but i think those are the key issues. i am also, kind of as the father of a 10-year-old -- i have anxiety like other parents right now as we apply for a middle schools for my daughter. as a member of the school board for eight years, i know that a strong school system and strong schools in the richmond is key. but also, i serve on the first five commission. each county has a commission that oversees money that supports children, and toddlers, and infants
