. >> nbc 10's deanna durante was inside the courtroom. she's live at the courthouse in norristown tonight. the judge did not mince words. >> reporter: he didn't. not when it came to raghunandan yandamuri, murdered a 61-year-old grandmother and 10-month-old granddaughter in a botched kidnapping attempt. steven o'neill, the judge, told yandamuri he was born with a wicked heart and was motivated by greed. nandamuri sat and listened as the judge sentenced him to death by lethal injection. he never took responsibility for the killing but did thank prosecutors for giving him a fair trial. represents himself harmed his case? >> if he followed our advice from the beginning, there's a chance we could have saved his life. the proof against him was irrefutable. if he had shown remorse, we believe perhaps a jury would have spared his life. >> reporter: no remorse in court today. the judge told him he will be sentenced to 31 to 62 years for burglary, kidnapping, and abuse of corpse. prosecutors told a judge he slashed the throat of a grandmother to th

deanna durante, nbc 10 news. >>> tonight, here is the mug shot of delvin barnes. he's the man police say was on the surveillance video using carlesha's atm card in maryland and buying food at the acme in philadelphia. what do we know about the suspect now in custody? police say he has a violent criminal past. we immediately started digging into court documents about current charges he faces and his past. nbc 10's rosemary connors joins us live from the digital operations center. you tracked down the suspect's family members tonight. >> that's right, i spoke to the suspect's uncle, lamar barnes. he tells me that delvin was raised by good parents, that his father was a minister. the uncle says that he is disturbed by the allegations and has these words for his nephew. >> i tell him he's wrong, and if he was somebody i didn't know, i would say whatever they do to him is fine. but now he's my nephew, same thing. what aim going to do? it's just hard for me to accept the viciousness of it. really surprised. some men have problems with women so they take it out on women.

nbc 10's deanna durante live near one shelter in levittown which is filled to capacity. deanna, what's being done now to protect the homeless from the elements? >> reporter: that's a good question. all of the shelters in bucks county are filled to capacity. this one has room for about 80 residents and there's a wait list here. we can tell you volunteer organizations are out at those tent cities helping the homeless residents pack up. problem is, there doesn't appear to be any place for them to go. >> i've been in this particular spot nine or ten months. >> reporter: he has the scars to prove it, frostbite on his hands. the order came down yesterday that everyone in this tent city has to go. none of you are allowed to stay. >> we'll have to go somewhere. we'll probably stick together until the bitter end, i guess. >> reporter: this is the community kitchen where brian tanner said he would make coffee for his family. strangers he met on this piece of land offç of bristol pike. volunteers with warming hearts are hope helping the res endid thes pack up. this is only one ca

and nbc 10's deanna durante is live in maryland. deanna? >> reporter: we were the first philadelphia crew here outside this bank asking questions of those inside, but they wouldn't confirm this is where the atm card was used. however, federal agents could be seen coming in and out of this pnc bank for most of the afternoon. now, we are about less than a half mile from the i-95 exit and we learned that agents also visited a taco bell up the road from this bank here and wanted to know more about the video that that taco bell had. they went in there and asked the store employees if they had any video from early yesterday morning. employees told us they were unable to supply the video buzz they were not able to use the computer system, but they expect the agents to return there this evening. we also were inside a grocery store, the video you're seeing of us talking to agents who only identified themselves as fbi coming from a grocery store. they also were collecting the video. as fbi agents headed in this scene, we saw them in different directi

deanna durante joins us live from germantown. you have been talking to law enforcement. what have you learned today? >> reporter: we have been talking with federal law enforcement sources that are painting a bigger picture as to how that arrest went down. we know carlesha is back home with family. she spent the first night at her mother's home and she is now in a safe location with philadelphia police watching closely her and her family. it was sunday night, cameras here in germantown caught that kidnapping on camera. police tell us if it had not been for that, that was their first big piece of evidence in the case. however we are learning from federal law enforcement officials other pieces that helped make the arrest. it was wednesday when that arrest happened. police taracked the car that delvin barnes was driving in. atf officials were already in virginia checking out various addresses for barnes. he was also wanted for rape and attempted murder in virginia. when information was learned about the car, agents with the atf were able to locate it, one agent was already i

nbc 10's deanna durante has been tracking this all day long. she's now live in montgomeryville, montgomery township. >> have any of these weapons been used in a crime. >> police say one of the guns was used in a domestic shooting in norristown not that long ago, just the beginning of november. how did you find people to sell those weapons to? andrew rocco confessed to breaking into two montgomery county gun stores. police say he stole at least a dozen guns. now investigators want to know where those weapons ended up. >> if there's anyone out in the community who hears my voice or who reads a report of this and has knowledge of any of those firearms or any other information about these firearms being sold to someone they know, i would encourage them to call law enforcement. >> reporter: how police connected the dots to rocco begins with these three men. after one of the gun store break-ins, the three went back to one of the stores looking to buy ammo. >> they were asking for ammunition that would have fit perfectly the .44 ruger. >> reporter: on

nbc 10's deanna durante live at city hall where those inspectors were just sworn in by the mayor. >> deanna, tell us what roles these inspectors will be playing? >> reporter: well, they're going to be a bigger show of force for the city's licensing and inspection department. 37 new inspectors added to the force that was already 167 inspectors in the ranks going out and looking at building projects. all of this part of changes that have come out of the fatal market street building collapse that happened last summer. you'll recall that lni went to city council in the fall and asked for more money. money to fund getting more inspector, $2 million city council has given an extra $2 million to the department of licensing and inspection to hire these 37 new inspectors. joining me now live is the commissioner of lni, carlton williams and now, that collapse, that collapse scene, that was licensed. there were inspectors that had gone on the scene. how will these 37 new employees prevent something like that from happening again? >> well, we've strengthened our policies in reference to how do y

nbc 10's deanna durante is live in easton. what have you found out? >> well, the district attorney says that the lack of communication from the 33-year-old lehigh valley woman who's been missing since friday is reason for concern. she left behind parents, her children and her husband and no one has heard from her since she left her job for a lunch break. >> very normal day. looking back now i wish we would have just taken a couple extra moments to talk to her and see if she was okay. but it was just a regular day. >> reporter: 33-year-old jessica pageant left for lunch from the day care where she was working and never came back. it was friday, 1:00 in the afternoon her cell phone was last used. that phone was fond in her car about a mile away from the day care on friday night. jessica's purse was also inside and there was no sign of jessica. late today, the northampton district attorney, john morganelli told me the case is now a criminal matter. >> they are treating this as a top priority. >> reporter: morganelli won't say if she thinks she drove her

. >> deanna durante is with us. >> reporter: we talked to some of them and they tell us there's just no place to bring all of these people and they fear that they're just going to pack up and move to another section of land. >> like what do you want to do? >> reporter: the clock is ticking for 30 homeless residents who have been camping in bristol. >> if we weren't gone by thursday we'd be given a ticket and go to jail. >> reporter: brian tanner camped here for eight months. >> trying to figure out where to go. right now it's up in the air. it's hard to get help. >> reporter: volunteers with warming hearts based in bristol are pitching in. the problem is, there doesn't seem to be a place for the residents to go. >> you've been living here? >> for a week. this is all new to me. >> reporter: so where are you going to go? >>ç i don't know. >> reporter: local shelters are full and community organizations reached by phone say that's part of the problem. there's not enough shelters in the county to support the need. >> there's six people right in the turn of the hospital. they had to go.

nbc 10's deanna durante is live at northwest detectives with more on this. deanna? >> reporter: well, jim sloan says when he made a promise to carlesha's mother he meant it and it was in the first few hours after she was abducted, you saw the horrifying video on a germantown street and he says it was before that they had all of that information that he told carlesha's mother that he was going to make sure that her daughter came home safely. now, at a news conference late this afternoon, he and the team of detectives that worked this case for the last three days lined up and told us a few more details about the investigation. they tell us they believe carlesha, described as a strong fighter, left her cell phone on the ground on purpose. they believe she did that so someone would come and look for her. police today are praising those people that called in with their tips. they're praising one man in particular, dwayne fletcher. they say he called 911 twice and stayed on the phone and waited for police to get there and gave them crucial information when this case first
