nbc 10's jesse gary is live on scene with an update. jesse, what can you tell us? >> reporter: tracy, we've been working the past half hour, making calls, trying to get a condition update on the three people taken from this hospital to two area hospitals. so far, we don't have a condition update, but i've been talking to some neighbors who say these are really nice people that are kind of like missionaries at a local church. been here for about a year, maybe a little bit less, and they are expected to leave not too long after that, maybe another year or so, so, they're not long-term residents, but doing kind of missionary work. fire officials say this case of carbon monoxide poisoning could have been fatal, if not for a 911 call. they say the carbon monoxide level inside this house on hidden hollow lane was three times the average, so intense, it overwhelmed the carbon monoxide detector and sickened the people living inside, including a small girl who opened the door for police. >> she answered the door and she passed out. and they went in and started investigating

jesse, what can you tell us? >> reporter: tracy, delvin barnes has not been assigned a lawyer, so that could be one of the things that happens at his arraignment inside federal court. police say the 37-year-old is at same man in this surveillance video seen snatching carlesha freeland-gaither off a germantown street last week. tips, clues and store surveillance videos helped federal, state police and local fbi agents track down barnes and rescue freeland-gaither a few days later in maryland. barnes faces federal kidnapping charges here in pennsylvania. the u.s. attorney requested barnes be tried in federal court first and then go back to virginia to face charges for an alleged crime down there. live outside the federal courthouse in center city, jesse gary, nbc 10 news. >>> the teen accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl last week has a hearing in darby today. police say kassim hill taunted police, telling them to come get him the day before he surrendered. >>> one of the men accused in the carjacking

but we begin with jesse gary in hunting park. jesse, what's going on there? >> reporter: well, tracy, the coldest day brings typical cold weather problems. iced-over roadway. this is germantown avenue right in front of me. pike is right here and 15th is right over there. and this section of germantown avenue is iced over, a result of a pipe break late last night. and you can see what happens when you have a lot of water on the roadway and then these near record temperatures. it's isioced over. they were out salting this during the overnight and early-morning hours to try and break this up and they've done a good job. the ice is mainly to the side of the road, but there's still some on the old trolley tracks here on germantown avenue. so, bear that in mind if you're traveling this direction. if you have to get off the bus which stops right here, there could be some ice. be very, very careful, because obviously, it's ice, it is slippery. that's the latest live in hunting park, jesse gary, nbc 10 news. >>> our team coverage of the dangerous cold continues with n

but, jesse, you have new information. >> vai, that's right. residents being allowed back to their homes on hampton road and only seen two come back so far and they're not going to have gas service and a couple homes don't have water service, as well. right now working to fix the initial problem which was this broken water main under the ground there digging five feet down and making this hole about 18 feet wide to make those repairs. that initial problem caused a second problem, which you'll see in our video. this was a utility truck that fell into a sinkhole caused by, they believe at this point, the water main break that softened the ground and the utility truck fell into it and it landed on a four inch high pressure natural gas line. there were fears the line could be ruptured. that prompted the evacuation. i'm told by ugi workers that once repairs to the water main are complete, then they will come in and do their work. the gas leak affects 20 homes. the water main break affects these two homes right back here. another update for you comin

judge dennis smith confronted jesse matthew in the courtroom a short time ago, jesse matthew came in, in a dark prison green jump suit. the judge had to ask him to repeat himself, his voice was so low. the judge read the first charge attempted capital murder and asked him how he pleaded and when jesse matthew said not guilty the judge asked him to repeat himself, and before he could plead to the other two counts his defense attorneys said "judge, we don't need to you read the other two counts we'll plead not guilty to all three." a trial date was set for march 9th when jesse matthew will go to trial in fairfax county. the charges against him sexual assault, abduction with the intent to defile and attempted capital murder. those three counts against him here in fairfax county. he also of course faces charges in albamoro, virginia, with abduction of hannah graham whos see if he pleads in that case. jesse matthew pleads not guilty to all three counts. a trial date is set for march 9 and a judge was assigned to this case, judge david shell. carol? >> thank you. >>> president obama has rep
