let's check in now with nbc's matt delucia. hey, matt. >> reporter: some people are out here in center city this morning as the work crews get ready to remove the remaining letters off the old pnb building. those letters have been up there since the 1950s. you can see that some of those folks are still out here milling around. the road closures have not taken effect just yet. it was scheduled for about 6:00, but police are on scene getting ready to cordon off this area as those crews get ready to begin their work. just looking at this picturesque scene here in center city, temperatures right now in philadelphia about 35 degrees. in north philadelphia, about 32. heading up north to quaker town, 27 degrees. in fact, we have a camera from the poconos where they are making snow up there right now. temperatures there about 27 degrees as well. perfect snow-making weather in the poconos. and of course, we are expecting some rain and some sleet and snow in the area overnight. we have an nbc 10 first alert in effect right now for the po

nbc 10's matt delucia is live in germantown. matt, what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, tracy, police are still investigating this case and the concern right now is that this woman may be in danger. she is 22 years old and her name is carlicia freeland-gaither. police say she was last seen at about 9:40 last night in the 100 block of west coulter street. in fact, we have new video of that location. she was reportedly seen being forced into a dark-colored car, and the vehicle's driver side rear window was broken during the incident. that glass, we could see, is still scattered on the street. now, the 22-year-old was last seen in a light blue jean jacket, a gray and white sweater, blue jeans and tan and green shoes. she was also carrying a black backpack. so, philadelphia police are calling this suspicious and believe that she may have been taken against her will. if you have any information, police want to hear from you this morning. live in germantown, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >>> we are also following more breaking news. skyforce10 over bucks county

matt delucia is live with this update. what do you know? >> i spoke to the abington fire marshal and he told me the fire was caused by an air conditioner space heater one of the units that are in the back of the building here and that is what caused the fire. it malfunctioned and the flames started coming out. heavy smoke coming from the back of the original building. that is the building that you see right here behind us and there is still a lot of fire department activity here for the moment. the fire is out. it has been for a little while. the fire started about 4:00 this morning. and what we're told right now is that the northbound lanes of route 611 here, old york road still shut done for the moment but i'm told it should reopen within the next 30 minutes or so. you see they do have that ladder truck up there right now and inspecting the property making sure everything is okay. as for damage, we're told that it is mostly smoke and water damage. the damage was contained to the one room that contained that heater and air conditioner. so,

nbc 10's matt delucia is live in manayunk. this search has drawn support from complete strangers. >> i would say 300 to 400 people at least were taking part in this search yesterday. some friends, some family members and others just wanting to help. more help will be coming later this morning from the philadelphia police marine unit. take a look at this video from last night where family, friends, and well-wishers gathered in this very sport to hold a candlelight vigil. a priest led the group in prayer, as shane montgomery's family wrapped up yet another day of an exhaustive search that turned up nothing. the 21-year-old westchester senior was out with friends wednesday night into early thursday morning at kildare's here on main street. once shane left, no one heard from him. his mother and father thanked the crowd of supporters. some of them are shane's former high school classmates from roman catholic. they've been spending their holiday weekend looking for shane. >> we went all the way down there. we were up at conti at one

nbc 10's matt delucia has been following the developments. he joins us live from manayunk, where shane montgomery was last seen on thursday morning. >> reporter: the philadelphia police marine unit is due out here in about an hour from now at 10:00 and they've been out here before, but even with the help of hundreds of volunteers, there is still no sign of shane montgomery. >> jesus said to his disciples, be watchful, be alert. >> reporter: a priest leads a group of hundreds in prayer, as candles flicker along the manayunk canal. some in tears. others still baffled how the 21-year-old westchester senior could just vanish. >> went in the caves. went all the way down there. still looking, though. >> reporter: a crowd of family, friends, classmates, neighbors, and complete strangers from greater philadelphia search and rescue gathered yesterday morning searching every corner of manayunk, even under manholes. >> they're taking places off the map and eliminating them and moving on. >> shane was last seen at kildare's irish pub. after he walked out

matt delucia is on the scene there in concord township. matt, what is going on there? >> the hotel guests that are back inside were forced out right around midnight because carbon monoxide was found inside the building here at the best western, along baltimore pike. we'll show you video of what it looked like. within the past couple hours as firefighters vented the gas, the cause was found a malfunctioning heater and the readings were high enough to keep all the guests out of the building for a few hours. this is right at concordville inn to give you some perspective. the carbon monoxide was discovered quickly enough so no one was hospitalized. because it is very cold more and more people are running the heaters and that has been found to be the cause of many of these carbon monoxide leaks, just like the ones here, especially when it happens in your home. you may not know about it, unless you have an alarm. i sat down with fire commissioner derek sawyer from philadelphia to talk about those dangers. i'll have that coming up in the next 30 minutes. for now i'm live in c

i'm matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >>> this morning, a man is in stable condition after philadelphia police shot him in the germantown section of the city. the man is being treated for a gunshot wound to his neck. police tell us they recovered a weapon at the scene. no officer were hurt. we are working to find out exactly why this happened and why police opened fire on this man. >>> today in ferguson, missouri, officials will make a statement on the resignation of police officer darren wilson. he's the police officer who shot and killed michael brown, an unarmed teenager. wilson turned in his resignation yesterday, effective immediately. he was on paid leave since shooting brown in august. last monday, a grand jury in ferguson decided not to indict wilson for killing the 18-year-old during a confrontation. both the shooting and the decision fueled protests in ferguson and across the nation. demonstrators set out yesterday on a week-long 120-mile march from ferguson to the governor's mansion in jefferson city, missouri. the naacp organized the march and is calling for police reform in fergus

nbc10's matt delucia is live in philadelphia at this septa station in frankfurt. matt, you've been talking with septa riders this morning, especially on a day like today we see you with the umbrella, the riders must be thrilled they don't have to walk or find a ride. >> yes, most are happy they won't have to find another way to get around this morning, especially as you mentioned, in this rain. both septa and the transport workers union stayed at the bargaining table until after 11:00 last night. this is what it looked like late last night just before 11:15 when the negotiators walked out of the old city hotel where they had hold up for several hours yesterday. a strike had been threatened by wtau president willie brown since contract negotiations had been moving rather slowly for the past seven months. earlier this week both septa and twu local said they were very far apart on the negotiations, especially on pensions and now there is a deal. this means that septa riders on buses, trolley, and subways will be able to continue riding without interruption. first up

i'm matt delucia. nbc 10 news. >>> new from overnight, the last americans held prisoner in north korea are now back on u.s. soil. matthew miller and kenneth bae were flown into joint base lewis mccord around midnight. they were accompanied by the director of national intelligence james clapper. he secured their release through a secret mission to the communist country. miller you may remember was arrested last spring after he reportedly ripped up his visa when he arrived at an airport in north korea. he was charged with espionage and then sentenced to hard labor. bae had been held for more than two years in a labor camp for alleged anti-government activities in north korea. his health, by the way, was failing. he spoke briefly after landing in washington overnight. >> i just want to say thank you all for supporting me and lifting me up and not forgetting me. >> bae also thanked president obama for his support and the north korean government for releasing him. >>> in our area, a woman in her 30s was sho

matt delucia is live at the base of the bridge. it looks like those runners are just getting started behind you. >> reporter: that's right, rosemary. this is where a lot of the onlookers have gathered too behind the barrier. a lot of family, friends, and supporters are out here. some of those runners are already coming back and about to cross the finish line in just a few minutes. but not everybody is that fast, so the ben franklin bridge is closed for the moment. here is a look at the start of the race. a lot of people are out here on this chilly sunday morning. organizers tell me more than 3,500 runners are out here doing this 10k run. another 500 people are walking. this run the bridge event has been going on since 2002. supports a school in south jersey for children with special needs. right now as you can tell, it is very cold, it is windy, and i've been talking with some of the runners about how they are staying warm on that bridge. >> just run fast. run as fast as i can and go back to warmth. that's my goal. >> the temperatu

matt delucia is live at police headquarters this morning, and investigators do have some leads in this case. >> reporter: yeah, two people were rushed to the hospital last night, including the police officer, and he is still recovering this morning, thanks in large part to the good samaritans who ran to help. >> i saw that it was a cop car, and right then i just started sprinting. >> reporter: it was just before 5:30 last night at 28th and tasker, joe chambers says instinct kicked in. >> right when we pulled them out, the fire started to reach the interior of the car and it caught fire like a minute after we pulled him out. >> reporter: this 17-year-old is a volunteer firefighter. he trained for a situation just like this. the door he says was stuck. the window shattered. as cell phone cameras rolled, other bystanders jumped in as well. >> if it was me in the situation, somebody would try to pull me out, so i feel like i did my good deed for the night. >> ror poli >> we were just trying to preserve life. we helped the cop out and it was a guy slumped over. we pulled him out, tried to g

matt delucia is live at philadelphia police headquarters. what have you learned this morning? >> reporter: detectives are looking at this mysterious case. a woman found outside with a gunshot to the head. we have some video of the scene. philadelphia police tell us it was just before 11:30 last night on the 1600 block of rowan street. someone found the woman lying on the ground. and this happened in the middle of a neighborhood. police are trying to figure out who this woman is and why she was shot. she was pronounced dead at the scene and crime scene investigators were on the scene. as of now, no arrest were made. matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> philadelphia police are investigating another deadly shooting this morning. this one also happened in north philadelphia. the victim was shot in the leg. there are no arrests in this case either. also, the last americans held prisoner in north korea are now back on u.s. soil. matthew miller and kenneth bae were flown in right around midnight. they were accompanied by the director of national intelligence, james clapper. he secured their

nbc10's matt delucia is live at temple. he's got a closer look at the investigation. matt, fill us in. >> reporter: within the past hour we have seen police driving through this area. that is a usual presence, but a little bit more so now because they are looking for a shooter. now, police do tell us that the student is expected to be okay. he was shot just a couple blocks from where we are. that was on the 1500 block of north 17th street. you're looking at video of this scene. this happened just before 1:00 this morning. philadelphia police tell us the student was the victim of an attempted robbery outside of a party. he was shot in the hip and right now we're told the victim is stable. police tell us they are looking for one person at the moment. temple put out an alert to student bs via social media early this morning saying the suspect is a man wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, a read beanie and blue jeans. also mentioning that the student's injuries are not life threatening. live in north philadelphia, i'm matt delucia, nbc10 news. >>> also new from overnight, a p

nbc 10's matt delucia is live in center city this morning. matt, you've got some new information to share with us. what do you know? >> reporter: it's deja vu out here. we were doing this back in august, trying to remove some of these letters. you mentioned, i have been getting some new information. i've been talking with police and workers out here, who are getting ready to take the remaining letters off of this building. they tell me that they have pretty much ready to go. the helicopter is ready. so they're waiting for some more daylight and that should be happening momentarily when they move that helicopter in to hoist the letters off the building. i'm going to give you a look at 15th and jfk. this is the area that they're going to be putting the letters down. they will be hoisted down to this level, put on the flat bed trucks and taken away. as such, you notice no vehicles are moving around city hall right now. so the roads are now closed. that's a very important note here, and they should be closed until about 4:00 today. this is a flui

matt delucia is live on coulter street where this all happened. you've been talking with the victim's father? >> reporter: i just spoke with him a few minutes ago. we'll hear from him in a moment. meanwhi meanwhile, detectives are going around this video getting surveillance video trying to piece together what happened out here. i have been talking with family members of this woman. here is a picture. she's 22-year-old carlesha freeland-gaither. her grandfather tells me that she doesn't hang out with unsavory characters and cannot understand why this happened to her. it was about 9:40 last night, a witness tells us he saw carlesha struggling with a man on the 100 block of west coulter street. eventually the man got her into the backseat of his vehicle and the glass shattered into pieces on the street. just minutes ago i spoke with carlesha's father. he is out here right now posting flyers on utility poles desperately hoping that someone has seen her. >> if anybody knows anything, please, just bring my daughter home, that's all i'm asking. whatever

live in everything fra further this morning, matt delucia, nbc10 news. >>> new this morning. one person is in the hospital after this fire in philadelphia's kensington neighborhood. nbc10 was on the scene of this 3,000 block of frankfurt avenue shortly after it started around 6:30 this morning. firefighters had it under control in less than half an hour. right now the american red cross is heading to the scene to help out anybody who needs it. there's no word yet on how the person or what their condition is at this point. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >>> lgs thalso this morning, on person is dead and two injured following an accident on roosevelt boulevard. this happened right around 6:00 this morning along the boulevard. police tell us that there was a crash and then a person was struck and killed. we're working to get more details about exactly what happened here. investigators in philadelphia are also looking into this accident. police tell nbc10 that a woman is in extremely critical condition after she was struck by a car in north philadelphia. this

nbc 10 matt delucia is live for us and, matt, a reminder to all of us this time of year when people start trying to heat their homes or other properties, carbon monoxide could be a problem. >> yeah, we heard from fire commissioner derek sawyer over in philadelphia about heaters being a big cause of this. i'll tell you right here at the concord township best western, the guests are back inside, but quite a wakeup call around midnight when all the hotel guests were forced to evacuate because carbon monoxide was found inside the building. we'll go ahead and show you some video of what this looked like in the past few hours as firefighters vented that gas. the cause was found to be a malfunctioning heater. the readings were high enough to keep all the guests out of the building for a few hours. they were staying at a bar just across the parking lot. this is right at the concordville inn just to give you some perspective here. the carbon monoxide was discovered quickly enough so no one had to be hospitalized. because it is cold more people are running the heaters and that is a major contributo

nbc 10's matt delucia talked to witnesses and has the story. >> reporter: the flames lit up the night sky. smoke could be seen for miles. >> i just walked outside to get my paper, looked down the streets and saw the flashing lights. walked down here and saw the building was completely involved in flames. >> reporter: neighbors who landfall near the intersection watched and snapped photos this morning as firefighters battled this one from the ground and above. fire chief told me so intense inside the building firefighters were pulled out. the property is home to south jersey mowers, which has been in business since the '80s. >> family around forever. very prominent business. >> the show rom was destroyed. the residence in back heavily damaged. police initially responded to a panic alarm just before 4:00. one of the owners was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. she's stable and expected to be okay. as for traffic, 73 was empty except for a mass of fire truck and hoses. >> being shut down this long here, i've never seen it before. not like this here. >> this is what route 73 lo
