the first in a series of storms now just moving onshore. today not a gigantic storm. but we are seeing the showers out there right now and if you are traveling outside, yeah, you're going to see some downpours from time to time. so be very, very careful out there on the roads. let's take a closer look now and you can see some of that, some yellow and orange and heavier rainfall making its way across san francisco and across the bay now. it's sliding in toward richmond and lafayette and looks like it's going to continue to roll through to novato and vallejo and you name it, you're going to see scattered showers continuing off and on especially through the morning hours and then tapering off in the afternoon. cloudy over san francisco right now. temperatures mild 50s into most parts although down to 49 degrees in santa rosa. this afternoon numbers cooler generally in the 60s outside. i think the rain tapers off into the afternoon. but don't worry, guys. we have another storm coming as early as tomorrow. so i'm excited about that. >> triple header. >> keep the rain comin

some heavy rainfall just moving onshore. we have seen numerous lightning strikes on the back side of the system, too. so this is going to make for a very interesting afternoon. you can see some of that heavier rainfall moving in across the bay area and a large batch just off the coastline. so get you in for a closer look now, heavy rainfall moving into hayward and san ramon. you see the yellows, oranges, red and heavy downpours. it's slowly working south not too far away from fremont, haven't rained there just yet and san jose remains dry. but that will likely soon change as that system works its way all across the bay area. looks like outside now it is very ominous looking. gray skies, some raindrops on the lens continuing to rain into san francisco. temperatures are staying rather mild. 50s across the board now. and not going to be a lot warmer than that. throughout the afternoon a chance of isolated thunderstorms. that rain will continue to pick up and be heavy at times. rain ends tonight, patchy fog returns and then stor

as we increase the onshore breeze a little bit. then we go the other direction this weekend. temperatures warking back up for saturday and into sunday with a report of upper 70s in the forecast for those two days. for today, high pressure begins to back off. it keeps all of the rainfall up to the north. we once had hope the cold front would generate rain. that was earlier in the week. but the resulting a fern is today, a few high clouds out there and minor cooling for today and into friday. here's our forecast model. i will take this into friday morning. 6:00. it shows you some of the fog trying to regroup the coast and also a few patches into the bay and then same deal by friday morning at 11:00. the marine layer establishes itself. the onshore breeze cooling us off a few degrees but then into the weekend we'll warm back up. forecast highs this afternoon. very nice out there. hazy sunshine, temperatures will be in the 70s. upper 70s for livermore, san jose 74 and pacifica, 69 degrees. numbers today a little bit cooler than yesterday. a look ahead to your five-day forecast wi

another low pressure system is now coming onshore. that's really going to kick up the winds and bring more rain into a region that does not need more rain right now. they need a little bit of a calm to be able to recover efforts. that's something we'll have to watch out for as we go through the next few days. we're also talking about some rain, some very windy conditions in parts of east asia. we have a low pressure system coming over the korean peninsula. so that's bringing some rain, in fact some snow showers into portions of northeast china. we have another low pressure system south of tokyo. that's bringing some instability, so cloud cover, some sprinkles, eventually leading to some rain and windy conditions. that will actually increase as this system moves toward the north into the northern portions of japan. we are also continuing to monitor the rainy season down toward the south into the philippines and also into thailand. we're still going to see the rain continuing as we go into wednesday. the low into the korean peninsula br

the onshore flow increases. temperatures decrease and we have widespread fog and cloud cover. that low finally makes it close enough to us wednesday night thursday morning to drag a cold front through. this will be the first november rainfall in the bay area on november 13th. we could use it and there may be several more thereafter. there one more coming up in the seven-day forecast. fog tomorrow morning, highs for veterans day in the 60s everywhere. that is a dozen degrees cooler inland and rain will arrive as early as wednesday night. look at the highs tomorrow, back down to normal, but it's going to feel chilly for most of you, san jose 67 degrees, morning cloud in cupertino, palo alto 66, danville 67, pittsburg 67, foggy start in san francisco, 63, san rafael 63, cloverdale 65 degrees tomorrow. mostly cloudy wednesday morning, rain moving in on thursday and then a second chance of rainfall coming up sunday. we could use many chances of rain. let's start with two and go from there. next week looks even wetter. >> good. >> thank you. >>> lost in the wilderness, 15 hikers are

and it brought enough cold air and brought enough moisture onshore to both locations to produce snow fall. and a lot of that, too. let me show you what it looked like on the ground in northeast china where residents of northeast china dealt with prolonged snow for 4 hours since tuesday night. a blizzard reduced visibility down to one kilometer. all flights and buses were suspended thursday. hundreds of passengers were stranded. now the skies became near friday but temperatures remain below freezing throughout the time period from morning to evening. so because of that, any of the snow that was left over ended up freezing, and so it's caused a little bit of a problem. hopefully the temperatures will start to recover as we go through the weekend because the high pressure system that's going to be controlling the weather for the next few days should push toward the east, and bring in a southerly flow. that should help to moderate temperatures. now the story is a little bit different for northern japan where the low pressure system is still controlling the weather in hokkaido. we saw up

i am in the onshore business. >> a lot of people at b.p. said that couldn't happen too? >> look, the ocean is a much different place than the hand that we live on. you have quakes obviously, you have natural disasters that can happen, but you have 100 year track record of there not being onshore b.p. issue uh, that being said, you have to be mindful of what is out there, but uh i think the risk is certainly with the 5 million josh jobs that can be created and the u.s. becoming economically independent on the resource front for the next 25 years. >> how are foreign companies going to react to that? >> well, look, they are running the ever the hills, they don't know what to do when it comes to what america has turned into, and that's an energy boeheim meth. we are producing 10% of the production daily, or importing another 50% of that to 20 million barrels. opec went from being 7 million barrels down to 3 million. we get this done, and get some solid energy plans we can be below 1 million-barrels in the next 36 months. so opec and the foreign partners that are among that g

we have onshore flow that is strong. heading throughout the next couple of days, the high pressure is going to take a hike. it's high pressure that comes in and forces everything right to this surface. compresses whatever moisture we have. and we see that with the visibility dropping off in form of fog. for the next couple of days, the onshore flow strengthens and the high pressure starts to weaken. so we won't see it as low to the ground. your fog will be at about 500 foot level where it will be touching the ground. most of us tomorrow will be able to get to work a lot safer than it has been friday and this morning. becoming warm and sunny for today now that the fog is out of here for most spots. a nice finish with temperatures ramping up into the 70s. 76 degrees for the south bay. 75 on the peninsula. and we could hit a record out in the north bay today where we started out mostly clear, 81 degrees, for example. in places like this area, we'll drop your temperatures like a rock tomorrow and you likely need the jacket a

the winds now strongly onshore. steadily, as we good through the next couple of mornings you'll notice more clouds and our daytime temperatures will start to cool down a bit. but the winds picking up is good news. we're seeing the spare the air days have stopped as we're now getting the better mixing of the atmosphere, thanks to the onshore winds. even though the air quality levels are in the moderate range for the east bay and north bay for smoke pollution, things improving the next couple of days. you can see the clouds on the coast. locally inland for the morning. and then we'll lange on to the low clouds along the seashore. while inland for one more day we'll have a chance of seeing the temperatures rise into the upper 70s. 60s closer to san francisco for the north bay tomorrow, low to mid-70s. and we should still manage some maybe upper 70s out there towards the tri-valley for tomorrow. over the next five day, you'll notice the cooling trend. look at that wednesday and thursday for santa rosa. you're looking at

named vance, a category 2 storm expected to become a category 3 storm which is a major hurricane coming onshore but weakening rapidly as it does. and so we are expecting it to be a little bit of a wet rainmaker for the western coast of mexico going through the middle to latter part of this week. so here's a look at the forecast again. a little bit cool, dry, d.c. down to atlanta, highs in the teens. snow possibly for denver. rain into oklahoma city. high of 18 degrees coming up on monday. here's a look at the forecast for europe. we're keeping an eye on two low pressure systems. one located in the upper portions of europe. and another one you can actually see the swirl with this one coming toward the british isles. both of these are going to be wet weathermakers. rain expected as we go throughout monday. you can see here from stockholm all the way into london as far south as the iberian peninsula where usually you see sunny conditions. you'll see rain coming up on monday. back toward the east where high pressure is controlling the weather, driving those northerly winds we will see high of aroun

the same thing tomorrow with a little catch, onshore winds bringing clouds close to pillar point. another warm day for those valleys inland. highs in the upper 70s. probably close to 80 again for morgan hill and 77 in san jose. low 70s in san francisco, for the north bay upper 70s and the trivalley highs tomorrow in the low 80s. but we'll begin to see changes for the week ahead. some helped triggered by this massive storm in the bering sea. it did hit a record low. the strongest since 1977. redirecting really the flow of the jet stream over the next few days, one that if you have friends and families they'll deal with this arctic air. highs in the 30s and 40s on the east coast. different story here in the west coast. we'll stay warm through at least about wednesday until this ridge breaks down enough to let us see some rain. you see on the future cast, more clouds coming in, we'll start to see that chance of a few showers. but the north bay and these rain totals not all that impressive. most of it falling before you wake up thursday morning. about a tenth of an inch there. the fiv

we have a low pressure system that moved onshore into the iberian peninsula. that's tapping into the mediterranean sea and bringing some rain, especially for the southern portions of france. look out for that as we go throughout monday. also, another low pressure system up toward the scandinavian peninsula bringing in some of that colder air so the northern portions will be seeing the possibility of some snow. otherwise you'll see a lot of rain from stockholm into berlin and down to vienna. that secondary low down towards the iberian peninsula. we have the remnants of a low pressure system over into eastern europe. and so that's bringing some showers as far south as athens, but some snow into moscow and kiev, as we go through monday. now, as we take a look at north america, a couple of areas to keep in mind. we are seeing another low that continues to batter the western coast of canada and the pacific northwest. this is also a concern because not only are we seeing rain, temperatures are dropping off to where we may be seeing some freezing rain. and that's goi
