glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the forecast. morning, glenn. >> good morning. we had wind gusts well over 40 miles an hour yesterday. it's a little breezy now but nothing like we saw yesterday. a lot of sunshine out there at the moment. we'll see a lot, just a few patchy clouds in delaware and right near atlantic city. temperatures rising now into the 50s. 56 already in northeast philly. we only got to 49 yesterday for the high, and the winds, of course. 38-mile-an-hour gust in the poconos, but generally 20 to 28-mile-an-hour wind gusts. elsewhere the wind will diminish a little bit this afternoon but there's still going to be a little bit on the breezy side. again, nothing compared to yesterday. and the temperature is going to keep going up, up near 60 degrees at 3:00. remember, it gets dark earlier after we've set the clocks back over the weekend. so don't be surprised how quickly it does get dark tonight. i'll have the rest of the seven-day forecast which includes a lot of rain and also another cold shot coming up in a few minutes. >>> it is, of course, nove

let's begin with our leader, glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> the conditions are improving quite a bit across the entire area. we're seeing good visibility in the poconos, even improved at the shore and in and around the philadelphia area, we're starting to see the flags blowing. that's a sign that the atmosphere is going to be drying out. we certainly have seen that. the visibility has improved. it was down near zero in many parts of the area earlier this morning. still two miles in wrightstown. but it's up to two miles in atlantic city. less than two in wildwood. it's improving rapidly throughout the area. we're going to see sunshine as we go into the afternoon. the drying trend continues. 62 degrees in philadelphia already. 66 in wilmington. we're well above average for the high for this time of the year. this is the last of the warm weather though for quite a while. as we go into the rest of the afternoon, the temperature not going up a lot. but more sunshine and then by 6:00, the temperature is starting to plunge. that's just the beginning. we will tell you how cold it's going to

. >> nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz here now to tell us just how cold it's going to get overnight. glenn? >> yeah, jim and renee, it felt a little better this afternoon with the temperature getting up to 50, but things are going to change rapidly tonight. we have mostly clear skies. you can see, they're still making snow up in the poconos. and it's going to be plenty cold enough to keep making snow all the way at least into saturday. the current temperatures, well, it's still pretty cold in the poconos. 30 degrees, but it's 47 in philadelphia. 50 in dover. we have hit 50 degrees in philadelphia. we have the winds coming out of the northwest just starting to pick up and bring in the colder weather. and watch how fast it drops. by 6:00, we're still well into the 40s, but we drop into the mid 20s by 6:00 a.m., and the feels-like temperature drops into the teens. and that's in philadelphia, it would be single-digit windchills in some of the suburbs. more on that and the threat of weekend rain with the seven day in a few minutes. >>> now to the latest on the

>> nbc 10 first alert meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the first alert answer for us. a lot of rain behind you on the radar, glenn. >> that's right. the heaviest of the rain is moving into delaware now. extreme south jersey is going to get some, too. live radar, see there's quite a bit of rain around. a lot more than there was a few hours ago. there's one band of at least moderate rain coming into the philadelphia area. right now. and down into cumberland and salem counties but the heaviest is coming through new castle county, into eastern maryland and it's moving straight to the east. about 4:44 at milford and 5:23 at cape may. if it holds together, crossing delaware bay, those are the areas that are going to get hit hardest with this, but there are more showers back to the west. even when this bapd cond comes through that's not the end of the rain threat for the night. see it's still pretty cold especially north and west. temperatures in the upper 40s. while it's in the low 60s farther to the south. that has allowed those showers and thunderstorms to be stronger

chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is standing by with a look at the temperatures. glenn? >> sheena, we issued the first alert last night because we wanted to alert you to the fact that some really extreme weather is going to be going on. today, okay, we have just a rainy day. this is antarctic blast. very unusual for this time of the year. in çfact, near record cold temperatures coming with this thing. and we're going to be seeing the temperatures feel like it's below 10 degrees on your exposed skin at the worst of this. right now, the temperature is actually going up. it's up to 50 degrees in philadelphia, the warmest it's been so far. creeping up to the north and 60 degrees in atlantic city. boy is that going to be changing as we go through the night tonight, of course temperatures are going to go down. 28 degrees by 7:00 a.m. but the wind is increasing, too. so it's going to feel like it's 18 by 7:00 a.m. that's not going to go anywhere during the day tomorrow. talk about how cold it's going to get tomorrow night, near record lows where you live. coming up wit

and so is glenn "hurricane" schwartz when it comes to these storms heading our way. >> 24/7. nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz here with the latest track on that storm. glenn, what can we expect? >> renee and jim, the one thing we are not expecting is for it to go out to sea and totally miss us. it's not going to come close enough to the coast to put everything as rain. it's going to be a mixture and it's likely to start as rain, change to snow. the colder air from higher up is going to come down and make that change. we won't have cold air moving in from buffalo or anything. it may seem too warm at the beginning of the storm but that temperature is coming down. more snow is going to fall north and west. elsewhere and the rain changes to snow, south and east. eventually it's going to take a while. right now, it is 70 degrees. we reached a record high of 72 today. we're gusting to 32 miles an hour and it is warm everywhere. not quite as warm at the shore with the wind coming in off the cooler ocean. we set records in allentown and reading today

. >> sheena parveen and glenn hurricane schwartz have up to the minute snow totals and when the storm will move out. let's get right to glenn. >> we continue to see the snow, it's mostly in pennsylvania. and this is ski big bear. we've been showing you different parts of the poconos, and it keeps snowing, and keeps piling up some places, we'll have more than a foot by the time it's over. not much in central and south jersey or much of delaware, the rain/snow line has stayed pretty close to the same area, along i-95, there's still snow back to the west. and some of that is to come through. once in a while, we get a little burst of snow, and then we get it really slacking off, it's more like flurries or sometimes it may even stop completely. but there's a big burst right around baltimore, that area is moving in right now through lancaster county, and about to go into chester county, there's still the back edge of the storm, still has some time to get here, it will be a few more hours before it is gone. the amounts of snow, obviously higher in the poconos where 6 to 10 inches of snow rep

glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here now with the forecast. >> more showers this afternoon. there's still a little drizzle, even though there is nothing that shows up on the radar. there's drizzle too small for the radar to detect. the more significant rain moved out. heavier rain moved out, even at the shore, we are seeing that. but there's more moisture back to the west. as this area moves into the sunshine that is building in northern virginia, i expect this to strengthen during the afternoon. even if we don't see sun, we will see showers later today. if we do see a little sunshine, then the showers will be heavier, maybe even thunderstorms. you can see how cool to the north and west. temperatures in the 40s. 63 degrees in georgetown, delaware. that's going to be the exception during the day today. most folks are not going to get to 60 degrees. only 53 by noon. we continue to expect the cloudy skies to continue, perhaps a little bit of drizzle at times. then the scattered showers moving in toward the afternoon rush. we will see if there's going to be more rain as we head

let's get to glenn "hurricane" schwartz with the forecast. messy out there, glenn. >> absolutely. it is a solid area of rain. we don't see this too often. practically every square inch of our area is getting rained on right now. there's no more snow even in the poconos. it is all rain. some of it getting a little bit on the heavier side. you see some of those areas of yellow, so it's mostly been on the lighter side, but as we go into the -- especially the early portion of the afternoon, some of this heavy stuff down in virginia is going to be moving up. now, the snow on the back end, that does not look like it's going to be coming here. it feels kind of cold out there, but it is not close to turning to snow. it will not turn to snow today. 39 degrees in pottstown right now, 40 in allentown. so it's chilly up to the north, but it is a little bit milder to the south, and that's what we're going to be seeing this afternoon as we continue to see the rain. >> we'll check back in with glenn in a little bit but let's go to the news conference we were telling but with the papal visit set

begin with nbc 10 chief meteorologist, glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn, what can we expect tomorrow? >> jacqueline, just no doubt that it's going to snow in a good portion of the area, despite it being so warm today and so early in the calendar season. heavy rain changing to heavy, wet snow in a good portion of the area, at least for a period of time, even the philadelphia i-95 corridor, the heaviest of the snow, the greatest accumulations will fall north and west where there's most likely tonight travel problems and some power outages. that storm hasn't gotten organized yet, but there's moisture just offshore that extends all the way down into the gulf of mexico, where the storm is starting to develop. so, this precipitation could move in very, very quickly overnight and it will and then it changes over. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist, sheena parveen has more on what to expect out of this storm. that's right much and one of the first areas that we will see with the changeover to snow will be north and west of the philadelphia area.

let's get over to glenn "hurricane" schwartz with the forecast. >> good morning. it is really cold out there, especially for so early in the season. this is the first alert back on sunday night to let you know what was coming, the arctic winds. this is not just a cold blast that's coming around here. this is near record cold. to be able to get record cold without a snow cover at this time of the year is really unusual, too. and the feels-like temperature, the windchill is down to near ten degrees on average across the area, especially tonight. right now it's in the 20s across much of the area to the low 30s. nobody is above freezing. the windchills they are not above 20. 17 in philadelphia. 11 in reading. 15 in pottstown. 8 in lancaster. look at these winds. this is the wind gusts here, 38 miles an hour in philadelphia, 41 at lancaster, 43 at mount pocono, 36 in atlantic city. it is just brutally cold out there. and the windchills as he would go through the afternoon, especially north and west, aren't going to get out of the teens. so even if the middle of the aft

let's begin with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> renee and jim, we first mentioned this to you yesterday at this time where we expected a storm to develop offshore and it may be close enough to the coast and strong enough to bring rain back in, just in time for the big travel day on wednesday. and as the storm passes by, brings down cold enough air, rain could change to snow over a portion of the area. again, during the busiest travel day of the -- well, just about the year. we have cold air that comes in after that, too, affect something of the rest of the holiday. more on that coming a little bit later. let's go over to meteorologist sheena parveen with more on the huge temperature swings coming. >> we have a big warmup before the rain and snow next week. temperatures wilin near record warmth. believe it or not, we get random days where we are very warm. not tonight, though. cold tonight, 34 in philadelphia, 26 in pottstown, 27 lancaster. mid-20s in millville. look at the warm air down to our south across many of the southern states. temperatures 60s and 70s. this

glenn "hurricane" schwartz here now with the forecast. >> the difference between today and yesterday, the clouds are sitting out there. it's covering much of the area. but we don't see much of a threat of rain during the day today. you can see all the clouds on the satellite, but very, very little rain showing up on radar. some of that's not even reaching the ground. back to the west, it's reaching the ground. it's more significant. it is coming our way. what's in kentucky and tennessee, some of that moving in as early as tonight. 62 in philadelphia now. 65 in northeast philly, despite all of that cloud cover that you saw. 64 in dover and in atlantic city. as we go through the afternoon, we expect cloudy skies, perhaps some peeks of sunshine here and there. high temperatures into the upper 60s at best, depending how thick the clouds stay. then the rain moves in. the timing on that and the next cold blast coming up with the seven-day in a few minutes. >>> this afternoon, we will hear what president obama has to say about the election day results after democrats lost control of the sena

let's go to nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn? >> renee, it's a beautiful-looking evening now. the skyline just spectacular. visibility is excellent. back tomorrow morning things will be changing. we're already starting to see some radar echos, some of this higher up in the atmosphere, not reaching the ground. it is the first sign of that moisture increasing. you can see back to the west, there's a whole lot more rain. and it is headed right in our direction. and it looks like it's going to be affecting us during the morning rush. 62 in philadelphia now, down into the low 50s in some areas north and west. still not that chilly for this time of the night, at this time of the year. we got up to 72 degrees during the day today. we're going to be in the low 60s for a little while, then dropping into the 50s. but with the cloudy skies, the temperature won't drop quite as quickly. talk more about the timing of the rain tomorrow and then the cold blast will follow. that's coming up with the seven-day in a few minutes. >>> tom wolf has a

meteorologist glen hurricane schwartz is here. hi, glen. >> it's 44 degrees. haven't seen that for a while. we have a lot of clouds and it's going to be kind of a gusty afternoon. with the wind chill only 35. we had wind chills cloeser to 1 yesterday morning and closer to 50 degrees at the jersey shore, even 40 to 41 degrees in some of the northern and western suburbs. we had a lot of clouds over the last several hours. we're starting to see some breaks, especially back to the west, but there is no precipitation of any significance. these snow flurries not even reaching the ground at the moment. now, for the rest of the day, we expect a mix of the sun and clouds. the temperature isn't going to be going up a whole lot, maybe up to 44 and then start going back down as we go through the late afternoon. a very cold night again as another arctic blast comes in. a big change is coming over the next seven days. we'll have that in just a few minutes. >> thank you, glenn. it's the last thing people in western new york need right now, more snow. flakes continue to fall

let's go to nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn? >>> well, renee, i think things will be leaving off a little bit tonight. we're not going to be setting any kind of records. some places the temperature may go up a little bit. these were the existing records for this morning, including 20 degrees in philadelphia, those records go back about 1870. that's a long way back. we tied that record that was set in 1936. reading tied the record and georgetown, delaware, broke the record with 19 degrees. right now it's 31ç in philadelphia. our high today so far, 33. and that would be a record also for the lowest maximum temperature for the dates. only 27 in allentown, 29 in dover and atlantic city. not a whole lot of wind, at least not at the moment. a little bit of a south wind making the wind chills lower. you can see the temperatures kind of leveling off as we go through the night tonight. it's going to stay cold for quite a while. i'll tell you when it's going to warm up and when the next rain is coming in with the seven-day in a few minu

. >> nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the rain. and glenn, who's seeing it right now? >> well, renee, right at the jersey shore, they've been getting the heaviest rain in the last 15 minutes or so. and in philadelphia, it's tapering off. the weather conditions improving a little bit. at least temporarily. but the heaviest of the rain is just now moved offshore. atlantic city and margate and brigantine. it was pouring rain just ten minutes ago and now that area has moved out. in the philadelphia region, we still see some light rain, drier conditions just to the west coming in, but there's still more showers out there. so it's not the end of the rain for the night, but obviously the heaviest of it has moved away. there's still more to come in tonight. we have some showers and we then have some increasing winds. those winds are going to break up the fog. also knock the temperature down. it's already chilly north and west, but it's rather mild in southern delaware. still 60 degrees in georgetown. that's going to change, too. more on th

. >> let's begin with glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn? >> we have a few more hours of the white stuff, the temperatures have helped us out here because a lot of the snow has melted. this is a large storm that's moved rapidly and covered a large area, that's why we've had travel troubles, especially from the air across a good bit of the eastern united states. plenty of snow back, well west of harrisburg. rain on the warm side right along i-95, or very close to it, just about all day, we have a little darker blues back toward baltimore, washington suburbs, so there may be a little heavier snow coming in. right now, the heaviest looks like it's coming right into delaware county and into philadelphia. lower bucks county. and then eventually into mercer county, new jersey, the darker blues indicating the heavier snow. so we can still get more accumulation out of this. visibility gives us an idea of how heavy the snow is, a mile in coatesville, fairly significant snow. the visibilities further to the east and the south are pretty high, so it's

standing by is chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz with a lock at that. glenn? >> yeah, sheena, we look at different things in the wintertime than we do the rest of the year as far as telling how heavy snow is, for example. we have to look at the visibility. that tells us how heavy the snow is falling. the lower the visibility, the heavier the snow. if it's less than a mile, it's coming down at a pretty good clip. enough to accumulate. it is not less than a mile now. it's actually gone up in mt. poconos. so the snow is actually lighter now than it was 15 minutes ago. reading, and coatesville, just a little bit over a mile. that's still a steady snow. if it would do this for hours, it would accumulate. quakertown, 2 1/2 miles. other places like allentown, five-mile visibility, this snow is no factor at all. and, of course, it's not even snowing in the i-95 corridor. so that's why the visibilities are fine. but these are the things that we watch. not only hour by hour, but almost minute by minute because things can change pretty quickly. along with the temperature

. >>> now your first nbc 10 weather with glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> we have had a big warming trend since the weekend began. we were in the 40s with wind and rain, but we've got some warm weather today and we have some relatively warm weather tomorrow, too. we are tracking some rain before the week is out. and then another cold blast with even more coming next week. a fair amount of sunshine today. some high clouds coming across. 66 degrees with the wind only 6 miles an hour. 8 degrees warmer than we were at this time yesterday. so we're in the mid to upper 60s across the area now. it doesn't look like it, but yeah, there were places it got into the 70s today. philadelphia officially 71 degrees. the average high is 60. so we went from 49 to 60 to 71. we're talking 68 or so during the day tomorrow. we are 5 to 10 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday, but remember it's going to start cooling off pretty quickly as the sun is setting earlier. we have this patch of clouds coming through right now, but then we start to clear out after that to allow the temperature to drop down prett
