chief meteorologist scott williams, wow! >>> record cold here, lucy, this morning temperatures bottomed out right around 20 degrees in the philadelphia area. no snow thankfully but take a look to the north and west. we're still dealing with that lake effect snow toward the western part of our state, also, moving toward buffalo. another little clipper like system is bringing additional snowfall there away as we take look you can see that latest frame. talk about being snowed in right now. just to the south of the buffalo area, some locations, yes, over five, even 6 feet of snow. that's more snow than we typically see on average for three winter seasons in the philadelphia area. but back to this morning's low, 20 degrees tying the record low set back in 1936 of 20. reading saw a record this morning of 17 degrees as well as georgetown, delaware, dipped down to 19 degrees. 31 right now in philadelphia. winds out of the south southwest at 11 miles per hour with the wind chill of 22 degrees. so it's cold but not as cold as it was

here's chief meteorologist scott williams. >> that's right, iain. we did. we hit 70 degrees. could this be the last time we hit 70 degrees this year? maybe. maybe not. but i know one thing for sure. there's some cold air on the way. 70 that was the high temperature for today. the normal this time of year in the upper 50s. we were 4 degrees, yeah, away from that record high of 74 degrees set back in 2006. so the latter part of the week we're looking at that colder air moving in. it's not going to be as cold as what the folks in the midwest and the planes are getting right now. but we're looking at high temperatures in the 40s as we move into thursday as well as friday. there could even be some wintry precipitation in the offing with that seven day forecast. we'll talk about it coming up but pretty comfortable. temperatures right now still in the 60s. 64 degrees in philadelphia. the wind direction it's calm right now and humidity at 65%. but look at the sharp contrast across the lower 48. we're looking at 60s out ahead of this front. 63 in roanoke as well as norfolk, virginia.

let's get right over to chief meteorologist scott williams. >> yes, that's the bigger story, iain and lucy. the rainfall moving out but the arctic blast that is going to be moving in. some of the coldest air of the season some of the that cold air moving south from canada. southward from the great lakes headed right toward the philadelphia area. so the rainfall moves out but we still have a flood advisory for the the next 15 minutes right around the i-95 corridor points north and west as well as south and east. but the arctic air, it's moving in. below freezing temperatures expected area wide tonight. there could be some patchy black ice in spots where that water doesn't evaporate. but the wind will pick up and feels like temperatures will be in the teens and even single digits tomorrow morning. ultimate doppler right now drying out along the i-95 corridor north and west still some leftover showers down the shore but the heaviest rainfall is now out into the open waters of the atlantic. low temperatures tonight, 29 in the city. 22 in the suburbs. and take a look at the future feels li

chief meteorologist scott williams track something thick fog rolling our way? >>> dense fog advisories going up pretty much for almost all of the state of new jersey, central and southern sections of delaware, lucy. you can see highlighted in gray. we're watching for the potential of visibles less than a quarter of a mile as we take a look at the visibles right now, less than a mile toward atlantic city. still pretty good along i-95 as well as millville over to dover down to 3 miles in lancaster. 6 miles in sections of the lehigh valley. the other story tonight, temperatures. pretty mild. 56 degrees. that's the low in the city. 50 in the suburbs but watchin wg out for some of that fog so use those low beams. allow a little extra travel time but look at the sharp temperature contrast. 64 in pittsburgh. we have 58 in charlotte but behind that front, temperatures in the low 30s in chicago. single digits in north platt as well as rapid city. so the bottom line, dense fog in spots overnight. tomorrow the last mild day. early and then temperatures will drop. coming u

scott williams tracking a bit of a warmup for us. >> that's right. we'll take what we can get. even though it's still going to be cold and below average, we're not looking at record breaking cold as we move into the overnight. so a little bit of good news. high temperatures for thursday, actually top out in the low 40s and also in that seven day forecast we'll talk about 50s and 60s making a brief come back. but look at the numbers right now. 35 degrees in philadelphia. we have 36 in millville. 37 even in wildwood. so that south wind is really helping our temperatures. a few locations seeing temperatures rise. so as were roll the clock, tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. we're looking at 31 degrees in philadelphia. 40 in atlantic city. atlantic city was at 20 degrees early this morning. as we move toward tomorrow afternoon, look at high temperatures expected in the mid 40s for atlantic city. 42, 43 in philadelphia. upper 30s to right around 40 north and west. coming up we'll have the timing of when to expect temperatures above average briefly and also iain and lucy we're looking ahe

let's get straight to chief meteorologist scott williams. so what are we looking at, scott. >> lucy, wednesday we're looking at rain changing over to wet snow. heavy snowfall at times. so if you have travel plans, you'll probably want to leave early wednesday or wait until the system pulls out of here late wednesday night. so right now, it's dry, and quiet but the rain will be moving toward the middle of the week. changing over to wet snow and take a look. winter storm watches in blue. i-95, that includes trenton, philadelphia, north and west. we're talking about accumulating snowfall primarily on the grassy surfaces but the timeline wednesday, wednesday morning rain begins. changing over to that wet snow in the afternoon. then tapering off in the evening. i have new information on how much snowfall to expect but we're looking at impacts and once again several inches included in that philadelphia. iain lines see. >> scott, hard to believe i was playing golf this morning. stay on top of the weather by goss going to myfoxphilly.com. click on t

scott williams is tracking the timeline for us right now. scott? >> that's right, iain and lucy. we are still several hours away from the first onset of precipitation that rainfall moving into our area but look at this highlighted region. a lot of moisture to our south. it will continue to stream in our direction. we'll zoom in a little closer right now. all of delaware dry, south jersey looking good, north and west we're not looking at anything falling from the sky on ultimate doppler. watch the clock. we have the cloud cover in place. by 4:00 a.m. that rainfall moving into delaware. sections of south jersey. just going to be rain to start. but look at what happens by 7:00 a.m. toward the lehigh valley, the poconos, changing over rapidly to that wet snow. so the changeover to snow timeline across the area for the pocono mountains, the lehigh valley from 7:00 to 9am tomorrow morning. the northwest suburbs we're looking at that change over between 9:00 and to 11:00 around the philadelphia metro area, i-95, 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and then the last to see the change over parts of dela

chief meteorologist scott williams, welcome back indoors. i got some hot cocoa waiting for you. >>> thanks lucy because i need it i'm still trying to warm up. feels like temperatures across the area in the teens even single digits right now but thankfully as we look at ultimate doppler it is dry. we're not dealing with any wintry precipitation, however, toward the lakes, buffalo, take look at this ultimate doppler loop. this is the last 12 hours. do you see a change? no. we're looking at that fetch over the relative many warm lake waters, and that cold air creating some of the that lake effect snow. up to 4 feet of snow has already fallen just to the south of the buffalo area as we take a look at ultimate doppler just impressive there. temperatures for us in the 20s, but feels like temperatures in the teens. record cold as we move toward the overnight by 11:00 o'clock we'll be in the 20s, but look at the actual wind chills right now. zero in the pocono mountains. 17 is what it feels like in millville as well as atlantic city. so is this a si
