cbs reporter susan mcginnis joins us live from ferguson with the second day of clean-up now under way. >> reporter: today is about clean-up and things have turned messy here weather-wise so it's not a great time for the businesses trying to clean up the mess made over these two violent nights so far. no question last night was a lot less violent than a monday night. everyone wondering now what happens tonight. business owners are cleaning up after another night of violence in ferguson. vandals set off explosives in this muffler shop and set fire it a police car. it was the second round of unrest following the grand jury's decision not to indict officer darren wilson for the fatal shooting of 18-year-old michael brown. with hundreds of national guard on patrol, protests were somewhat calmer. while people in ferguson wonder what tonight will bring the parents of michael brown have questions for officer wilson who broke his silence. >> the reason i have a clean conscience, i know i did my job right. >> reporter: speaking to abc, wilson said he feared for his life. >> i gave myself anothe

cbs news reporter susan mcginnis is in missouri this morning and joins with us more on the protests in ferguson live. good morning. >>> reporter: hey, good morning, frank and michelle. it was a noticeable difference last night compared to monday night on the streets of ferguson. protestors did turn out for another night of protests but they seemed to number in the hundreds and not in the thousands. there was looting. there was arson. there was breaking of windows even at city hall. a police car was torched. but it was nothing compared to the damage, destruction, 12 different buildings burning to the ground that we saw on monday night. a lot of this had to do with a greatly increased police and national guard presence. [ no audio ] >> reporter: rating traffic disruptions but the scene was a far cry from the destruction and chaos of the first two nights after the grand jury decided not to indict ferguson police officer darren wilson in brown's death. >> it should definitely be peaceful but at the same time the rioting and looting is also a necessary evil. it's brought awareness and attention. >> reporter: here in ferguson, demonstrations were mostly peaceful overnight with only small protests. police and the national guard prevented major flairups but demonstrations continue to spill over into other rnia, protesters ran through the street and smashed windows last night. people laid in the streets in los angeles and officers arrested protesters who refused to disperse. >> one of us has been harmed and therefore all of us has been harmed. >> reporter: back in ferguso
