the atlantic city casino could possibly stay open. nbc10's jesse gary is live to explain what happened. >> reporter: tracy, i've been talking to loyal patrons. and one man i spoke to this morning had not heard the new developments from overnight earlier this morning and resigned to the fact that the taj would shut on saturday. when i told him a deal was in place to keep the casino open, he literally jumped in the air. some of the workers on the inside have similar emotions although they're being more cautious. the casino option united 54 is set to make a deal with carl icahn. it will bring back rules and health benefits and pension. icahn gets $150 million in tax breaks from the state. and he'll also swap deep debt and 1 is $00 million in cash to take full ownership. that cash infusion keeps the doors open instead of closing saturday. i talked to one worker on the inside who told me he's going to wait for the ink to dry before breathing a sigh of relief. live in atlantic city this morning, jesse gary, "nbc10 news." >>> the taj mahal w

and atlantic city about 9:30, barn gat about 1:30 in the morning. nowhere near the type of flooding that we had this morning largely because the wind direction has changed. now to sheena parveen who is tracking snow for some areas tonight. >> yes, that's right. so the nor'easter isn't over yet. the worst of it for the shore has passed. still flooding there but we are watching it as it races to the northeast slowly. i shouldn't say races, but at least the heaviest rain has moved out. the cold air lies up mort. and the cold air will move into our area, so on the back side of this nor'easter, we do expect rain changing over to snow. take a look at put weather, mainly areas north and west of philadelphia. so right now we're above freezing. so we're seeing rain. as we go through midnight hours into early tomorrow morning, this is when temperatures will get colder, closer to freezing. by 7:00, we should be seeing snow falling in these areas. accumulation will be a little hard to get with temperatures through the day going a little above freezing. so we do

right along the shore, even, closer to atlantic city at the airport there, we're down to less than a mile. so, we are definitely seeing weather conditions that are going to impact traveling as you hit the road and also as you try and fly out of our local airports. but here's a closer look at all the rain moving in up from the south. we have a lot more rain to go, so this is going to be an all-day event. as we head into the rest of your wednesday on this christmas eve, we'll continue with the rainfall. we could see anywhere between 1/4 inches to up to an inch and a half of rain. by noon, we expect the intensity to pick up, so moderate to heavy rainfall expected. we'll see a bit of a lull as we head into your 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. hours, but we'll see another round in our overnight hours, pushing into christmas day. lingering showers expected closer to 4:00 a.m. and then windy conditions are going to move in from the northwest. so, our current temperature's at 40 degrees in mt. pocono, 44 in allentown, close to 50 degrees. so, this is a warm start to the morning and we'll see temperat

the taj is set to close december 20th and become the fifth of atlantic city's 12 casinos to shut down this year. trump plaza, showboat and the atlantic club have all closed since january. >>> happening today, former philadelphia sportscaster don tollefson is expected to find out his sentence for a charity scam. tollefson is set to be sentenced in a bucks county courtroom this afternoon. he pleaded guilty back in october to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars. prosecutors say he sold tickets to sports packages with the promise that the money would go to charity, but pocketed the cash instead. tollefson claims he's been battling addiction for four decades. he could spend more than 30 years behind bars. >>> and this afternoon, the former treasurer of a chester county volunteer fire house is expected in court for a preliminary hearing. prosecutors say howard smith iii stole more than $300,000 from the westwood fire company. he served the fire house for four decades alongside his dad, but once he became treasurer in 2007, that's when prosecutors say that he began skimming the funds f

nbc10's jesse gary is live for us in atlantic city. jesse, you told us the union gave its blessing to the deal. the question is what did the union have to give up? >> reporter: it's lone concession is that carl icahn will pay a pension benefit to a plan only tied to the taj and perhaps the tropicana. the billionaire will own both casinos. it's a deal that saved 3,000 job us on the other side of the coin, carl icahn agreed to union demands to restore all work rules. but the new york post he'll get $150 million in tax breaks in the state. icahn will swap deep debt on the taj and $100 million in cash for ownership so the cash infusion will keep the doors from closing as they were scheduled to do this saturday. this was a recipe with many cooks. coming up in the next 30 minutes, i'll explain who else was involved in saving the casino and the job. live in atlantic city, jesse gary, "nbc10 news." >>> this came just yesterday as the new jersey counseltonman, chris broad wants to freeze the city's taxes for five years and ease county taxes on

that's the other news out of atlantic city. a bankruptcy court judge ordered the sale to brookfield asset management. the can naden firm won a court auction but couldn't resolve a fight over old debt. revel wants the court to let the auction's runner-up buy the property. a hearing will be held next year on january 5th. >>> a south jersey college now owns the former show boat hotel and casino in atlantic city. stockton will turn the site into a branch campus to promote economic and community development. it will include hundreds of rooms for student housing. the college expects to have part of the atlantic city campus operating in late spring of 2015. the showboat closed its doors in august. the golden nugget is threatening to sue. the casino's general cows sell says the bill unfairly hurts smaller gaming halls. the measure gives huge tax breaks to big casinos owned by carl icahn and gambling giant caesar's entertainment. the golden nugget's owner plans to go to court to block the legislation if governor chris christie signs it.

atlantic city finally clearing out. the rain moved north into ocean county. there could be more rain on the rain for the shore. it stretches through parts of salem and cumberland counties. washington township, seeing quite a bit of rainfall now. even through parts of lower bucks county, we're seeing rainfall there which could be moderate to light in some parts across the p.a. turnpike. this will continue as we go in through the evening. that will be moving into the trenton area soon here. it's all part of a big weather system. the clouds and scattered showers will be lingering as we go through tonight. future weather pretty much clears it up after about midnight. as you see through the rest of the evening, clouds with scattered rain but early tomorrow morning, we see more clearing and your morning commute will be on the dry side. wednesday through friday, we stay dry. by friday, we're still watching this area of low pressure in the gulf of mexico. by the weekend it will get closer and late saturday into early sunday could be swinging us rain and snow across t
