they show the attack by amedy coulibaly. when you look at these, congressman, are you seeing any evidence that perhaps this was more of an improvised attack? >> i believe -- again, i'm just making a guesstimate here is that this was more improvised. i think this person was trained. he was somewhat sophisticated. i don't know how long range this was. we're not certain what his involvement was, if there was any with the other attack or he saw this as an opportunity for him also to move. he claims affiliation with isis. whether or not this was an impromptu move by him to sort of take advantage of the situation or whether or not he had been planning it if he is under anyone else's direction, these are all issues we have to look at. i know you mentioned earlier i think that -- we make this distinction in the media and government between isis and aqap and al qaeda. the fact is there's a lot of cross polination. there has been cooperation and collaboration. they often know each other. they carry out attacks together on the ground.

also killed this man, amedi coulibaly. yesterday he holed up in a kosher supermarket taking hostages some of whom traj tragically did not make it out alive. cnn is also learning coulibaly spoke to french journalists from inside that kosher market and said he was targeting jews specifically. chris cuomo has been camped out in front of the offices of the mg chbd magazine "charlie hebdo" where this tragedy started to unfold earlier in the week. more innocent lives lost and new news of a phone call that reporters had with the dead terrorist. chris, what did he tell these french journalists about why he attacked this market? >> reporter: it's pretty remarkable. these journalists wound up getting all three terrorists on the phone, or at least the older brother, from one said. and the journalist said the terrorist called him, said he was trying to get in touch with the police. the journalist started asking him questions and he said yes, he is connected to the brothers. however, he said he did not do the massacre with them at the

i want to talk about amedy coulibaly. we just learned that he apparently took out a bank loan maybe perhaps to fund his terrorist operation. what more can you tell us about that? >> reporter: absolutely. the investigators are looking at the money trail, because as you know, as the prime minister said that is one area that asks so many questions, where did they get the money? many of them were in prison for a while, so what we have learned is that coulibaly, he took out a loan back in december. it was december 4th. he took a loan of 6,000 euros. that is $7,000. when he took out that loan, he asked to get it in eight days. that's the urgency of what he wanted. he then also asked to be covered by life insurance tied to that loan. the amount borrowed wasn't if you have to require an explanation of how the money would be spent. as you know if the money is not that much that you're requesting you don't have to provide an explanation. he also provided all the paperwork for that request, but he did lie about his employment saying

when you read the reports about these men, the kouachi brothers and amedy coulibaly and what they did and how they might have gotten radicalized, what goes through your mind? >> well the radicalization of individuals, be it fascist, communist or present day radical islam, there's plenty of research that describes that whole process. the seminal work was done by eric hofer written about 40 years ago, called true believers. it's a magnificent piece that profiles and captures the personalities and events and situations that might lead individuals to radicalization. again, this is a global phenomenona for folks radicalized within their various nations and country. the real crux here i admire tremendously what you said earlier in this hour that the french people have decided they're not going to let anyone hijack their freedom of speech. i think we're at a very critical point right now where islam itself the muslim world has to say, we are not going to allow radical islam to hijack our beautiful faith of 1300 years. and to take that a step further, if one wants to understand where this int

now, yesterday, as you mentioned, a 1ridvideo emerged online of amedy coulibaly. in that video he pledges allegiance to isis and issues an threat. he describes the "charlie hebdo" attackers as brothers saying things were done together and things were done apart for "a bigger impact." authorities are working to verify the authenticity of this video and looking into the veracity of his claims and the nature of his relationships. french media is reporting that police have identified coulibaly's hideout in a southern suburb of paris. they're saying they found a number of items, including cash and isis flags, weapons and detonators. investigators currently looking for any clues that his 26-year-old girlfriend and fugitive hayat boumediene may have been in that apartment, as well. interesting to note the dates of that apartment was rented from january 4th to january 11th. we're also getting more information about coulibaly's activities last week. he's now suspected of having blown up a car outside of a kabab shot and suspected of shooting a jogger. all of this leading t
