eastern, new york city mayor bill de blasio will hold a news conference with police commissioner bill bratton. this comes one day after hundreds of police officers turned their backs on the mayor. for the second time as he eulogized officer wenjian liu who was shot and killed while he was sitting in his patrol car with rafael ramos last month. the police commissioner had issued guidance and really an admonishment to members of the new york city police department not to repeat the back-turning at wenjian liu's funeral and they did it anyway. is that expected to come up at this meeting? >> reporter: well it could welcome up. i thought what was interesting about that was, it was a pretty soft ask. he asked them not to and some of the officers, as you say, didn't take him up on that request. so that in itself kind of somehows you where the power lies in that relationship. the mayor hasn't taken questions on this issue since the two officers were assassinated a couple weeks ago. i think everyone just waiting to see what he can say and what commissioner bratton can say to try to offer some

i mention that mayor bill de blasio spoke, and there was some concern that some officers might, again, turn their backs to the mayor when he spoke because of some of the ongoing tensions. there was concern that last week that officer ramos's funeral, that took away from the narrative of celebrating an officer's life and mourning his life and laying him to rest and so this week police commissioner william bratton a very small fraction of them still did turn their back on the mayor to show that they do support the nypd and they were want supportive of the mayor's excellents. there was not a majority. it was not even half. it was a very small number who made that determination to turn their backs. as far as i could see from where i was standing. something else i noticed was that as mayor bill de blasio was speaking there were members of other departments who had come in to town who also turned their backs to show solidarity with the nypd. i do want to take a moment, though, to let you look what the mare had to say. very powerful speech that she gave regardless about officer liu. >> he wa

can bill de blasio repair this? what does he need to say today to make this better? >> he needs to not just talk. he needs to take action on the policies he's been pushing forward like getting rid of stop and frisk. police are very smart. they get who has their backs and they get who doesn't. and from day one, bill de blasio ran on an anti-cop platform so anything he said is not going to be authentic and genuine and i believe the comments he made even though he was told don't get political, don't eulogize the cops he should not have showed up, stay quiet and he didn't. i think he used it as an opportunity to fix the damage he caused to his brand. it was one of the saddest funerals. i watched it yesterday. i was crying watching the widow of officer liu just two months they had been married. his father he was an immigrant from asia and he decided to become a policeman after 9/11 to defend our country. it's so, so heartbreaking and it's not -- the sadness and the anger by the police, it's not going to be a fixed by a speech or eulogy any time soon. >> i think an apology
