cecily tynan standing out in the wind today. adam joseph how are we looking out there. >> we're looking pretty good. if you're outside you're in the sun and sheltered from the winds it actually feels pretty nice. philadelphia currently checking in at 41 degrees. the first time this week we're in the 40's. wilmington 40, millville 40, atlantic city airport 40. allentown little bit cooler, 36. reading 36 and trenton 39 degrees. so problem as shirleen mentioned, the wind chills. we have winds gusting more than 30 miles per hour at times. so, the wind chill makes it feel like 31 in philadelphia, a full 10 degrees cooler than the actual air temperature. in allentown the wind chill 27 degrees. the wind chill is 30 at the atlantic city airport and the wind chill on the poconos where they're seeing a few snow showers 15 degrees. and some of those snow showers are drifting a little bit farther to the south. you'll see quakertown dealing with some snow showers a little bit of sleet near lansdale. new hope some snow showers. those snow sho

cecily tynan standing by live outside. >> reporter: hi. 2015 so good so far. it's been dry it's been seasonable. things will be changing though over the weekend. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing this low pressure near houston and that's beginning to tap into moisture from the gulf of mexico. that low pressure is making a beeline up towards chicago and that will bring us a wet weekend and also a one-day surge in temperatures and one thing about this storm system, it's moving a lot faster than anticipated so future tracker showing 1 o'clock tomorrow morning the clouds are in place, that moisture is to our west but it's moving in pretty quickly and there will be a wedge of some cold air in some of our suburbs. the national weather service has issued winter weather advisories for those counties you see in purple. it goes into effect at 7 o'clock in the morning for lancaster county and at noon for the poconos and this is for the possibility of some sleet and freezing rain before that changeover to rain in those counties. so, this is what to expect here for

meteorologist cecily tynan is live at the big board tonight. cecily it's what's the story. >> these are instability snow squalls. it's like in the springtime when you get that buildup of late afternoon showers. this is essentially the same thing. it's just a form of snow and storm tracker 6 live double scan showing that there's a broken line of these snow squalls from berks county, montgomery county through camden and burlington but they're dying down right now. the main problem with these the fact that it's reducing visibilities for the evening commute. and these are being delivered on some cold gusty winds and the winds will be whipping all night long. a wind advisory has been posted until 6 o'clock tomorrow morning for wind gusts 40 to 50 miles per hour and while these winds are gusting, they're pulling down very cold air. so, future tracker showing on this friday night you're heading out at 9 o'clock we're looking at wind chills generally in the single digits and they will be dropping below zero tomorrow morning. so, we have some arctic air

. >>> meteorologist cecily tynan joins us from the "action news" big board with the latest from double scan radar. cecily. >> and jim that refreeze overnight really is the big concern. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing that we still have the steady rain across south jersey and delaware. if you look across central pennsylvania, you can see a little bit of a mix. that's associated way cold front that will be sweeping through in the overnight hours. here is that cold front and you'll notice to the north and west of the front it's dry. the problem though is that the winds will be shifting out of the northwest overnight and that will be pulling down the very cold air. right now it's certainly pretty uncomfortable out there. we had a cold rain all day. it's 38 degrees in philadelphia. however, north and west of that front temperatures generally in the teens and 20's and temperatures will be falling down into the 20's through the overnight hours. so, this is what to expect tonight. that rain will be moving completely offshore by midnight temperatures dropping well below 32 degrees so a

cecily tynan joining us life and the wind chill to blame tonight. >> exactly. when you see the wind chills 18 degrees about feel warm in comparison. currently at philadelphia international -- millville the poconos 0. this is the number you really want to watch, the wind chill. these numbers are going to be plummeting in the overnight hours. it feels like 1 below with wind chill in philadelphia. lancaster 10 degrees below zero. the poconos, 14 degrees below zero. even at the shore, sea isle city feeling like 2 degrees below zero. and satellite 6 and action radar illustrating really well what's going on. an arctic front going through bringing us clouds and scattered snow showers. what it is doing is open the door for high pressure to build in. typically the high pressure is the good guy, bringing us sunshine. we like high pressure however this high pressure in the midwest originated well up to the north. it is arctic high pressure and that will be moving down across the carolinas and that is what will bring us the coldest air mass so far this season. the coldest

cecily tynan at the big board. >> by tomorrow afternoon temperatures a little warmer than today. the morning low today 20 degrees. 5 degrees below normal. afternoon high second day in a row only hit 32 degrees. that's 8 degrees below normal. next two days temperatures will be climbing up near 40 degrees. it will be seasonable and i think it's going to feel pretty nice compared to what we have been dealing with. 31 degrees in philadelphia, the same in millville. 32 sea isle city. wilmington 29 and allentown and reading currently 27 degrees. and you factor in the winds, which are generally light, less than 10 miles an hour, we still have a wind chill factor. feeling like 22 in dover, 22 degrees as well in reading. >>> it has been a cold winter but have not got much snow. this winter philadelphia only 1.inch of snow. the afternoon this time of year is 6.2 inches. last year we were hit with so much snow the second snowiest on record. this time last year we already had more than 20 inches of snow. we got some in south jersey and delaware. that low pressure is moving away. what is happ

meteorologist cecily tynan this is the hart of the winter. this should be a snowstorm. the setup is not right this go around. >> exactly, adam. we've been talking all week how the ocean influence will get involved. and you can see the streamline off the ocean, as that low pressure intensifies and moves in we have more of that air off the ocean. it makes sense when you think about tractor-trailer area seeing the most snow are the areas further away from the coast. these are the far north and west suburbs. overnight tonight, east of allentown, quakertown, pottstown, downingtown to reading we're looking at moderate overnight snow. then we get into extended period of mixed precipitation early tomorrow morning with potential for icing. here, minimal rain. this is mainly a frozen precipitation event. however the i-95 corridor resisting snow right now. it will continue until about 2:00 in the morning to 4:00 in the morning and that is when we get a quick changeover to rain. that will cause a slushy mess. and even melt some of the snow overnight. because we're looking at about

i bring in meteorologist cecily tynan. you have much more on the cold temperatures that are in place but also where that low is going to track. >> all the ingredients are on the board. how they come together will determine what we see. when you want a big snowstorm you need a fresh injection of arctic air and we have that. philadelphia is 27 degrees. burlington, vermont 11 degrees, bangor 12 degrees. high pressure up to the north that will keep that wedge of snow air. this will be a snow event. it will also slow down the progression of the storm but track is still the key. that low pressure will develop and it's kind of a race against time. how quickly it develops before it moves north or a latitude or how close it is to the coast by 6 o'clock tuesday morning it will be up near boston but if this low tracks a little farther to the east that would take the snow with it and lower our numbers. this is the time line. now between 10 o'clock we're looking at snow showers like adam said no major problems on the roads go ahead and

here's meteorologist cecily tynan with a preview of the weekend. hi cecily. >> hi brian first winter storm of 2015 will bring us surge of spring like warmth but also bring us a lot of moisture. stormtracker 6 live double scan showing that low pressure near houston and with circulation of the low you get the winds out of the south ahead of it and winds out of the northwest behind. it you notice all the frozen precipitation is west of that low pressure and that low pressure will head up to the great lakes. we'll be on the eastern side of the storm and we'll be on the warm side. that being said when the moisture moves in neshlly they'll be enough cold air near the surface and the national weather service offered advisory for lancaster county that starts 7:00 in the morning and also for the poconos the poconos begins at noonch the poconos will likely see snow changing over to sleet as freezing rain and eventually all rain. future tracker showing by 1:00 moisture here and philadelphia areas south and i east that's green. >> we'll see a wintry mix at fir

. >> cecily tynan is here now. >> for boston now, this is the fourth big of the snowfall in history and the snow continues to come down, the low pressure is stalled over cape cod and parts of massachusetts are closing in on three feet of snow and here we didn't get anything like that. the reason why i was saying last night if we have a slight shift in the track it would produce a major change in the snowfall amounts that is exactly what happened. that low tracked farther to the east on a western flanking storm like this you get a substantive zone it's a fancy term for air that is sinking, it drys and warms and cannot produce a lot of snow. that is why we had a lack of accumulating snow here however 60 miles to the east this is where you have the rising air and we had the snowfall at the rates of 12 inches per hour and it produced a heavy amount of snow in ocean county and brick township reporting 10 inches of snow and whiting 8 inches and washington crossing 5 inches and burlington 4.4. but philadelphia with the sinking air we couldn't get the bands of snow only producing 1.2 inches and

at the "action news" big board meteorologist cecily tynan here. cold sunshine but things are switching up a little bit tomorrow. >> could it be a carbon copy of today. >> little bit different tomorrow. more clouds, maybe some snow showers south of philadelphia but it won't be quite as cold but we are live on sky 6 taking a look at the skiers and the boarders at spring mountain ski resort. the good news for this cold weather is that the ski resorts can make a lot of snow and that's what they've been doing. temperatures right now generally in the 20's. 28 degrees for philadelphia. our high this afternoon 32 degrees. that's 8 degrees below the normal high for this time of year. allentown right now 23, wilmington 28, millville 29 and wildwood currently 30 degrees. the winds have died down but still we have winds generally six to 15 miles per hour out of the north so when we have temperatures this low doesn't take much to create a wind chill. the wind chill makes it feel like 14 in allentown feels like 18 in trenton, 19 in millville and the wind chill

meteorologist cecily tynan. >> jim the good news is the temperatures are warmer tomorrow and it gets colder on saturday and the worst of it was this morning the poconos were 3 degrees below 0 and atlantic city 8 and wilmington and philadelphia we dropped down to 9 degrees but the winds really told the story. the windchill in the poconos not a good morning to go skiing 23 below 0 and allentown 9 below and 11 degrees below 0 and philadelphia we dropped down to 6 degrees below 0 with the windchill. temperatures are cold and never even hit 20 degrees today. running more than 20 degrees below average, philadelphia 18 and allentown and millville 15 and reading and trenton 14 degrees the winds have diminished. we have winds generally 8 to 12 miles per hour, but it doesn't take much to create a windchill. it feels like 2 in reading. it's certainly a cold night. the evening planner will show that temperatures will be holding steady for the next several hours around 17 degrees the wind shifts from the southwest and that brings us slightly warmer air the morning commute temperatures tomorrow wi
