. >>> good evening, i'm jim rosenfield. >> $12 million is what a insurance company paid out to a bucks county family. >> reporter: jacqueline investigators tell us they got suspicious after the third house fire at the family's mansion over the last five years. they also tell us that all three fires were similar in nature. >> five members of a well known bucks county family are among the seven charged with tricking a insurance company to fund their expensive life file. they were all charged with more than a dozen felonies. it stems from several fires at their family's mansion in the last several years. the family falsely accused volunteer firefighters of stealing jewelry. >> i know they didn't take anything out of the house, but we were accused. >> the chief says all those that fought the fire that day were forced to live under a cloud of us suspension. >> it was like a weight lifted off of our shoulders. >> it was the third fire in five years at the mansion. after each fire they filed claims with their insurer which to date has paid out more than $20 million. the bucking hamm fire mars

jim rosenfield jones us in studio. what does it mean for the university? >> reporter: keith and jacqueline under the settlement penn state will get back 112 football team wins that were thrown out two years ago after the jerry sandusky child sex abuse scandal. this means the late joe paterno will be restored to his former title of winningest coach. a decision his family praised today. settlement also directs $60 million toward fighting child abuse within pennsylvania. it's an effort that has politicians and the public voicing their support. >> an evil predator operated in our community for years and everyone missed it. this money will help our community and communities across pennsylvania recognize how these predators operate out in the open. and hopefully, begin to make sure that something like this never, ever happens again. >> yes, of course they should give those funds to help the children that have been abused within pennsylvania. peep it in the state. >> this deal comes weeks before a scheduled trial in state court on the legality of a 2012 consent d

for now, jim rosenfield, nbc 10 news. >>> a new twist in the deadly shooting rampage at los angeles international airport. federal prosecuteors will seek the death penalty against the man in the frightening result. a man is accused of murdering a tsa officer and wounding three others in 2013. a nature of salem county new jersey is due in court monday for a hearing. a judge wants the case to be tried this year but the death penalty decision could delay it. >> the search is on for two men who used masks to rob a convenience store in north philadelphia last week. check out this new surveillance video from police. you could see two men walk into the food market store on germantown avenue last saturday morning. one of the robbers points a gun at the clerk, demanding money from the register. the pair took off with cash. >>> eric frein heads to court next week in pike county. frein is accused of killing a state trooper and injuring another during an amburg. he'll face a judge monday in a preliminary hearing. frein is accused in the deadly attack at the state police blooming grove barracks in september.

nbc 10's jim rosenfield joins us live from the digital operations center. jim, where does the manhunt stand for this driver now? >> well keith, it's going well because it took police just four hours to track down their man. this all started at the corner of 32nd and susquehanna in strawberry mansion. police say two officers pulled over a silver chevy impala. they say the driver tried to grab one of their guns then ran over officer joe kochmer's leg when officer kochmer then fired back. >> when it happened, he can't see his partner anymore. he knows he goes down. once he hears the shot put yourself in his mind he doesn't know what happened. >> the driver took off. police found the car two hours later on napa street and shortly afterwards took the suspected driver into custody. he's now being treated at temple university hospital. we don't know the extent of his injuries but we do know that officer kochmer is doing okay at this hour. live in the digital operations center, jim rosenfield nbc 10 news. >>> the murder of a girl from gloucester county will be the

. >> i'm jim rosenfield. it is so cold that some schools have delayed classes for tomorrow. you'll see the schools listed at the bottom of your screen. tonight we have live team coverage on this dangerous cold. >> we're on the streets checking the impact in your neighborhood. let's begin with nbc 10's first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn? >> renee, it is a brutal day. it will be an even more brutal night. we've had wind gusts to near 40 miles an hour plus the cold. that makes it a first alert day because that combination really makes it dangerous on your exposed skin if you hang out there for very long. wind chills below zero in some cases already below zero. right now, the temperatures are generally in the teens, even philadelphia at 19 degrees. a warm spot wildwood at 21. we did have snow showers coming through the area. we had a banned come through a couple of showers ago, things have really quieted down with that. now it's into the arctic air that continues to move in our direction and get colder as we go through the night. we'll see how cold
