. >> let's turn to dave murphy and karen rogers for weather and traffic. good morning. >> all right, guys, we're off to a fairly clear start in most of the area. there are some clouds up to the north of philadelphia and you can see how it's a little bit thicker as you go up toward new york state. there's also some additional cloud cover out to the west that will begin filling in and i think if we do start out with sunshine this morning the, you'll see gathering clouds as the day goes on. temperature right now has dropped to 31 degrees in philadelphia. down to the freezing mark in allentown. 32 in reading. 30 in wilmington, 25 in millville. so, a little bit cool out there and even though winds aren't all that strong this morning, it's still feeling like it's in the low to 20's in parts of the region, 23 degrees in philadelphia. that's your current wind chill. 25 in wilmington and 27 in allentown. not quite so bad. as we roll through the day 31 degrees on your storm tracker 6 app. right now in philadelphia. 31 by 8 o'clock as well. but then in the afternoon

karen rogers, what are you seeing on traffic maps? >> we got a few big accidents to talk about right now so watch for some slick areas. we're here in burlington county right on 295 southbound where we have an overturned tanker truck. the action cam was on the scene and you can see how many emergency workers were here. it was hauling heating oil we're learning and all the southbound lanes have since reopened. this happened in the overnight hours. still causing lane restrictions just up to a few minutes ago. northbound the left shoulder is still blocked so we do have one shoulder blocked but at this point things are looking better after a nasty accident in burlington county, 295 southbound past route 73. we've got another issue out here the traffic lights are flashing. you see it right here and this is south street at the schuylkill so as you're coming off the ramps you got to treat it as a stop sign. here in chester county we've got a problem on the pennsylvania turnpike, a tractor-trailer accident is on the shoulder of the turnpike ea

karen rogers you're keeping an eye on those icy patches. do we have a lot or a little. >> reporter: the main roads are well treated. the trouble is getting to your car or the secondary roads starting to see accidents like that. here we're looking in new jersey, this is medford we have an accident of a vehicle that slid into a pole. this is tonnen road near cedar trail. because of the icy conditions all the bridges are at 25-mile an hour speed restrictions. all lanes open on the schuylkill expressway no problems on the schuylkill expressway or i-95. the traffic lights are out in upper darby at landsdown avenue at state road, use a little more caution there. we have a fire, avoiding area in montgomery county, john russell circle at williams way. the main roads are treated looking dry on the blue route at mcdade boulevard. southbound traffic heading toward i-95. you're doing just fine. your ramps and overpasses and bridges you'll slip a little bit as you exit off the main roads. >> let's go over to katherine scott she is live in roxborough kno

meteorologist karen rogers is in for david this noon and joins us outside with a preview of the accuweather forecast. a lot better today karen. >> reporter: a lot better today sarah. that's absolutely right. we started this morning with the refreeze on the secondary roads and temperatures dropped and we had clouds and now we see sunshine. we have a change in the forecast it's pretty nice. let's look at storm tracker 6 live radar. over the past 6 hours we had showers to the southwest but we're seeing sunshine break through the clouds. we have a nice afternoon ahead. look tell temperatures, we jumped up to 45. 44 in millville and atlantic city airport. 44 in wildwood. seeing temperatures in the 40s after being stuck in the freezer for so long prior to yesterday. we have 16-mile an hour sustained winds but gusts up to 22 miles per hour making it feel like the low 30s in the lehigh valley. 34 in trenton. 38 in philadelphia and 36 in millville. so it's a nice afternoon but a little bit of a biting wind making it feel chilly. if you're heading out for this day of service here's what to expect. 25

we have meteorologist david murphy and karen rogers to help us with the morning commute. >> reporter: the rain that is falling up in the north is easing up a little bit. we have holes in the precipitation right now. you can see what is falling to the north of i-95 is sleet. there's even a little bit of that in northern ocean county and northern burlington county. this doesn't mean that areas south of the red line i have drawn are ice-free. we had sleet as far south as southern gloucester and camden county and cumberland county and new castle delaware. temperatures are dipping in these aerials anywhere above this line and on to the north. you have the potential for black ice this morning. and remember, if you have freezing rain that's the worst kind of frozen precipitation. my twitter follower in drexel hill shows us why. this is not sleet but rain that fell. it contacted the sidewalk that's below freezing, it turned into a sheet of ice this is the sort of thing you're looking for in pennsylvania and parts of south jersey and delaware. there's a winter weather advisory until 10:00 a.m.

. >> get to weather and traffic with meteorologist david murphy and karen rogers. good morning. >> reporter: here's what we got on storm tracker 6 live double scan, there also the blue in the radars out of the philadelphia on to the north and west. this is where you get sleet and rain. in the i-95 corridor there's sleet at times it could be cool enough at the surface where some of the rain is freezing up on surfaces and giving you the mix of icy sheen on the roadway. the big issue is in the northern and western suburbs. as we go through the morning we'll see the blue line push farther and farther to the north and early this afternoon we'll change over to rain up to the north. we have a winter weather advisory this is in effect in all the counties highlighted in purple this morning. in some cases it won't expire until 1:00 p.m. 10:00, and 1:00 p.m. the 10 expiration is around i-95 and new jersey and delaware, but in these areas of northern bucks, month -- montco and chester you're going to be stuck with the freezing rain and sleet. the i-95 corridor and points south

. >> let's find out about the current and coming storm and go over to david murphy and karen rogers has the roads good morning. >> reporter: we're talking about two different issues. this morning we're being affected by a clipper system that's centered to the south. it's pushing in light snow across the region. most of the active snow is in the northern suburbs continuing to push north and perhaps slick spots there. in philadelphia, earlier cells put down a little bit of coverage. we got another band coming in on which the ocean and there's a change over to sleet and all wet snow in southern gloucester and northern atlantic and southern burlington counties the wider view shows the coastal low pressure center receiving energy from the clipper to our south and transferring to a strong storm as it pushes up the coast tonight and tomorrow. this is a nor'easter for us. tonight into tomorrow morning we're looking for heavier stuff on the way. there's a series of weather alerts from the national weather service. places like chester county and lancaster county won't get as much snow. there's a

. >> now let's get a look at weather and traffic and go over to david murphy and karen rogers, good morning. >> reporter: it is important to look at this storm in two waves. the first one is today, we can expect patchy light snow. we've had it on and off through the region. the current area of concern is the northern suburbs where a generally light snow is falling. it will total one to three inches during during the day. the extra snowfall starts in the afternoon or evening. that's when an area of low pressure you can kind of see potassium precipitation off radar view off the carolinas form. and tomorrow it starts as a nor'easter and pushes in heavy snow across the region. there's skepticism or how much snow we are going to get on it of this. we have a warning you mean through philadelphia, down into delaware county, mostly south jersey up through trenton and the lehigh valley for heavy snow. it is only a watch out toward reading where the snow amounts are not going to be as much. we're looking at a blizzard warning in ocean county, monmouth, and new york and boston. philadelphia and the im

with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and meteorologist, david murphy. >> ♪♪ >> good morning. it's 6:00 a.m. on this wednesday january 21st. breaking this morning. >> two philadelphia police officers were injured in a crash as they were driving a shooting victim to the hospital. >> an out of control car crashes killing a passenger. what investigators say may have played a role in the deadly crash. >> accuweather is tracking a quick burst of snow that could create major traffic troubles for the later commute. >> so, let's find out more in your accuweather with dave murphy and we'll take a look at the traffic right now with karen rogers. good morning. >> the national weather service as is usually the case has issued a winter weather advisory in effect until 10 o'clock tonight. it doesn't kick in until late this morning and across most of these counties highlighted in purple i think you have to wait until the afternoon hours before you see appreciable snow moving n allentown and points north and east are not affected by this. you're only looking at a coating to an inch up there.

we'll hear from katherine scott in king of prussia in a moment but first lets hear from karen rogers and david murphy david is tracking live double scan radar at the big board. >> we are looking at radar and our live image is doing a great job all morning long with heavier plumes of snow earlier and you can clearly see that some snow is developing holes in it and it's darker shades of gray and we won't get as much out of this as we did with the brighter bands earlier. chester county getting significant snowfall than is extending back into southern berks county and all of this is moving east by the way and south jersey slightly steadier snowfall and again breaking down and becoming less and less. the live view on stormtracker 6 live double scan look at this to the west of us really falling apart. some precipitation cells drop down and the air drys out a little bit and the air breaks them apart. i can't rule out additional snow showers but i think the worst is over at this point. having said that there is a winter advisory posted until 4:00, all the counties affected by this since yest

you can see what a mess that scene is on thursday morning. >> karen rogers continues the coverage on that, karen. >> reporter: yes, the location is 295 southbound exit 18, with conditions there it didn't look that bad but there are icy spots in and around gloucester county. you can see the three lanes are blocked. it's just the shoulder they are allowing traffic to squeeze by on a major roadway, 295 it's heading southbound in new jersey we see a number of police officers on the scene the jackknifed tractor-trailer the salt truck on the side. what can you do to avoid it. take the new jersey turnpike as an alternate for you speeds at 12 15, you're crawling by on 295 southbound as eva pilgrim is reporting. you can use swedesboro road but you might get slick spots you might be better off sticking to the main roads right there. i want to show you what it looks like elsewhere. this is the 30 bypass in chester county. traffic eastbound is jamming. we're looking at fog that's never a good sign when you're seeing below freezing temperatures. let's look at the latest visibility reports. .3 in

. >> let's check in with karen rogers and we're seeing issues on the roads this morning. >> reporter: you need to be careful as you head out. my whole car was encased in ice. it may be the case for you, as well. the main roads have been treated. this is a look at 202 at baltimore pike where people have been going very carefully around the turnings, they have been salted and looking good there. we have 55-mile an hour speed restrictions on the new jersey turnpike. you need to careful of that, slow it down on the new jersey turnpike. we can see speeds of 55 on route 55 speeds a little bit too quickly. 61 miles per hour. the ramp to stockton service plaza is blocked. we have a jackknifed tractor-trailer on the new jersey new jersey turnpike. storm tracker 6 live double scan we can see in addition to the problem that we have with the icing on the roads we're looking at light snow showers moving through. we have an area of blue with icing near reading and lancaster, as well. a passing shower south of wilmington. a couple of issues. one of the main concerns that the areas that have been wet

karen rogers, what are the roads looking like? >> we're looking live at the schuylkill approaching spring garden you can see traffic moving just fine, no delays at this point but you want to watch for icy spots. we're seeing problems with that. on the big picture we've got traffic lights out. there's a local power outage in center city, 12th and filbert so expect some of the traffic lights in that area not to be working. katherine scott has been talking about this fire location in yeadon and providence road is still blocked near lansdowne. stick to bailey road as your alternate. in dresher a water main break and icy conditions being reported here. fire lease are on hand directing traffic another scene on susquehanna road near limekiln we had icy conditions in ambler. they salted the road and things are looking better. no longer seeing issues on evans road at sumneytown pike. with temperatures below freezing you got to watch for slick spots. >> thanks karen. >>> four people rushed to escape flames from a delaware county home. three
