baher mohamed's younger son was born while he was in prison. now it is his first chance to hold his baby away from security guards. the whole family of baher mohamed or mohamed fahmy, they are now ready for just having some time together. they had hoped for a breath of freedom and happiness, even for a couple of days. both journalists have to show up in the courtroom on the 23rd of february for a new session of the retrial. i've spoken to the lawyers and they said that yesterday's ruling was a good sign that brings a lot of hope and optimism. it's a step in the right direction. they believe that this might be the first step towards their acquittal at the very end of the legal process. but they don't know how long the new trial will take. however, the court of sesation which reversed the original verdict, said that there was no solid evidence to support the charges leveled against these journalists. they were accused of aiding the banned muslim brotherhood group, but there is no evidence to support these serious charges against them. >>> there's

i have begun to think of baher mohamed and mohamed fahmy as family. fahmy is a very strong willed character. and if anyone has suffered out of this it is ba he baher. he has a wife and three children one of whom was born while he was in prison. for him to be so devoted being where he is, this is a very huge mistake and only being able to see them on very occasional family visits and knowing now that he is going to have to spend an indeterminant period behind bars. we need to keep the focus on him because we don't know what's going to happen from here on. in prison on a daily basis the key is to stay fit physically, mentally and spiritually. so i made a very conscious effort to deal with all three of those things. to try to keep fit running in a very limited space keep up an exercise program keep mentally fit with study and spiritually fit too with meditation. through all of that, it was a way of kind of forcing a kind of discipline on myself and dealing with each day that came. and hopefully touch wood, i came out of it not too damaged. >> like peter

baher mohamed even tweeted saying i am free! actually, there has been a request submitted by the lawyers at the beginning of this case asking the judge to release the defendants on bail. just before the verdict has been issued mohamed fahmy walks out of his cage and he gave a pretty emotional speech. he said that he didn't ask for renouncing his egyptian citizenship. he just received the call from a senior official who asked him to give away his egyptian citizenship for the case to be closed. he said i have no other option. i had no other option. if i want my freedom, i have to give away my egyptian nationality. according to fahmy the lawyer told him, egypt lives in your heart, not just on a piece of paper. he denied any kind of relation with the muslim brotherhood. he denied committing any acts of violence and he wondered why a couple of journalists would be charged with terrorism. he just said that we are happy for peter greste that he has been released but all of us should be treated equally. >> sally, thanks very much indeed
