northern delaware as well as parts of the jersey shore just seeing rain or sleet right now. as we have been mentioning many businesses and government offices across the area they're closed today. the city of philadelphia under a state of emergency. nbc 10's monique braxton is live in center city. monique, couple of minutes ago we saw unplowed roads in a live picture there. slow travel as well. what is the situation like now? >> reporter: let me show you market street keith. convoy of three street department trucks just came through here going down market. so this situation has improved tremendously. the state department told us earlier this morning that they have called in about 350 vehicles to continuously plow the snow routes and then move to the primary and secondary routes. and they say it could be tomorrow or later this weekend before they get to some of the residential areas. and because they're using what is called track talk a lot of the trash pickup have been canceled today. tomorrow, they plan to resume. but they did want us to let you know that if you have pickup

delaware like chester county lancaster county. it's really off to our west that we're watching. this is a very large storm system. quite a bit of snow stretching through a good portion of the country and this will be moving in as we go overnight tonight. because of this a good portion of the area is under a winter storm warning. all the counties you see shaded in pink here accumulating snow is expected and hazardous travel for the morning commute tomorrow. future weather continues with the rain for this evening. then as we get closer to midnight, 1:00 the changeover occurs, areas north and west of philadelphia. then that continues moving south. so you see that changeover line pushing to the south by 5 a.m. snow around most of the area by this time. we expect it around the major interstates surrounding philadelphia. 8:00 in the morning, we could see heavy snow in parts of south jersey and delaware. snow cutoff is just around the poconos up to our north and west. this will pretty much help push that heavier snow continuing to the so

that's rain to the south, but look at northern delaware into delaware county. philadelphia is just seeing a few sprinkles now in northeast philadelphia. farther north and west this is where we are seeing the steadier snow move through the allentown area and into upper bucks county to start with. it's really going to be tapering off fairly quickly with the light rain in cumberland and salem counties right now, not looking all that impressive on the radar. and by 4:00 this afternoon, look at this. we've cleared out and temperatures are 56 degrees at 4:00. it will get cold tonight. a pretty good wind will be blowing this afternoon. that will bring the cold air back in tomorrow morning in the lower 30s at 5:00 in the morning. then clouds return with a chance of more rain and farther to the north a possibility of some light snow at 10:00 in the morning. the snow is going to disappear but rain will stick with us as we go into the afternoon hours tomorrow. so if you're heading out the door right now, you may want to take the umbrella but you won't need it later today.

as we take you over to northern delaware wilmington, just starting to see a changeover from rain to snow. so here's the big picture. again, it's mainly rainfall if you're closer to the shore, atlantic city even millville headed into dover, down by cape may. and that's because our temperatures are well above freezing. but we've already fallen close to freezing closer to allentown, poconos, reading, norristown. even reports of more of a moderate snowfall and accumulating snow. so that means your roads are covered. and you want to take it easy especially in locations where we've seen snow coming down for the past couple hours. that gives you a chance to being alate there. as far as the rest of the region through the morning, it's going to take a while before we see the snow transitioning all the way to the south and southern parts of south jersey. at least through 7:00 8:00 still dealing with more of a transition period for atlantic city. by 10:00 a.m. this is widespread snowfall, accumulating snowfall. this is going to affect your roads, your commute. you want to be very careful, at least

you can see the large area of snow expanding now into new jersey and northern delaware. the rain/snow line very clear-cut. and even in philadelphia now, we have snow everywhere. and the concrete over at heat island has washed out in the atmosphere and now cold enough to snow. the darker blues out in some of the northern suburbs here. but still not really heavy. everything is relative in weather. okay this is darker blue but that doesn't necessarily mean it's heavy. we monitor how heavy that snow is. you can see that on radar as well as just having reporters out there tell you. now, if it's coming down real hard, real heavy, it would be maybe one inch per hour. two inches per hour. we've had some of the thundersnow issues where it's three or four inches per hour. the heaviest i've seen at least in the last few minutes, is .15. that's less than one-fifth of an inch per hour. that's not that heavy. the .08, that's really light. so here's the point. the snow is not heavy enough to stick in most areas yet. you've got to get the temperature to go low enough. reading, burks cou

delaware county in through philadelphia camden county, northern burlington. we have got another batch of had heavier snow coming in to berks county. that will be moving into the lehigh valley. and farther to the south, we finally start to see snowflakes in the atlantic city area. and in central delaware it took a long time. these are just some of the preliminary snow totals. fleetwood, 3.9 inches in berks county, king of prussia, 3.5. emace, 3. allentown, 2. we'll keep updating those throughout the day. we have updated the snow map and pretty much where the original 6 plus was that we had predicted, well, 2 to 4 inches up toward the poconos, but 4 to 7 in the lehigh valley and berks county. so we raised those numbers. we have extended the 6 to 9 area, made it 7 to 10 just about all of chester county much of montgomery bucks, delaware county philadelphia burlington gloucester camden new castle salem counties all in that 7 to 10 range. and then lower totals as you go farther to the south. it will eventually snow in sussex county delaware. and 23 degrees in read
