we're watching the stocks of comcast, timewarner, and charter, just one month after comcast failed to buy timewarner cable, another cable provider is going shopping. no discount. it's charter communications. the number 31 in america. it wants to buy timewarner for $55 billion. (?) $10 billion more than comcast's bid for timewarner cable. now, major backlash by smaller operators, along with regulatory concerns from the fcc killed the comcast timewarner cable deal. but what might be different this time around? how do the little guys in cable feel about this hook-up? a lot of these are mom and pop organizations. not publicly traded. a loud voice. steve is wave broadband ceo. out on the west coast. washington. oregon. california. you've seen your company through 17 mergers. compared to a charter and timewarner hook-up 23 million subscribers, does this merger worry you? >> no, actually. i think it's hopefully good for the consumers of both charter and timewarner. and the significant cost synergies on the programming cost side. and i think this deal will likely go through. liz: a lot of the

i do think this will be different than comcast. this is a combination of companies that do not own content, they don't own nbc universal, which is extremely important for other cable and broadband delivery systems to get content from. they are a pure transmission plate. it will be a very different transaction under review. i think the entire focus will be on the national broadband market. harold: i agree with jean that the focus will be primarily on the broadband side, because neither of these companies has much of a content portfolio. where i wouldn't disagree with what he just said is a lot of the analysis will be on the local geographic market by market basis. these are geographically distinct companies that are merging. i'm not convinced that they have any greater market power collectively than they do individually, because they do not have overlapping market areas. i'm sure that the regulators spoke to the department of justice and the federal communications commission will look carefully at this deal. at least initially from

this is smaller than comcast cable today, let alone comcast nbc universal. it's a significantly different business. this is a significantly different transaction. from a regulatory perspective, charter won't be vertically integrated. we work well with other programmers and people think that -- and it's true -- that we'll be open-minded in terms of the way the marketplace develops. while i think comcast is for a variety of reasons, we'll be a smaller company committed to growth and expansion of our physical networks and i think that as a place for development and creativity in the industry we'll be a source of good for the country and a source of good to our employees and source of good to shareholders. i think it's a very different transaction. >> it's been reported mr. wheeler may have approached you or you and time warner cable management giving a sense that he was not against consolidation. can you give us any sense as to what you did here for mr. wheeler on this overarching issue of consolidation? frankly, tom many people i've spoken to in your position
