and a lot of it is in oakland. oakland mayor libby schaaf is here to talk about it. thank you for coming in. we have a couple things we've been following. protestors at the port of oakland will march into frank ogawa plaza. so some things that have gone on in the past. precautions you have take nobody oakland to make sure that lessons learned from the past? >> absolutely. we are prepared. we are expecting a day of peaceful protests of people really trying to raise awareness of really important issues that are going on in this country and this world. but we are prepared and we have not only put our force out but we have coordinated with all of our partners, the chp, the bart police so that one we can try to avoid any mishaps and we are prepared for anything. >> you said it's important to let people demonstrate. oakland has a history of encouraging free speech but you also sent a memo to city staff saying if the protests becomes unlawful, oakland police are prepared. what do you mean by that? >> well we are absolutely highway to facilitate the expression of free speech

especially in oakland. kron four's jeff bush is live tonight in oakland. he talked with the mayor about what is being done to keep the events >> jeff :may first, 2012the height of the occupy oakland movement and tensions were running high. a culture of protest and frenzy had swept over the city and demonstrations expressing frustration and anger were commonplace. things were coming to a head in oakland and protestors were using the first of may to continue their expression through violence and property destruction. it was a dark time but it was also a defining time in oakland's history. mayor libby schaff remembers that time and says things are a little different and she says that organizers have told her that the may day events will be peaceful.but, that has been said before and things spun out of controlpolice were attackedproperty was destroyedthe peaceful events hijacked by those intent on chaos and anarchy for the sake of chaos and anarchy. mayor schaff says the city is ready and a whole lot of police are going to be standing by in case things go side

oakland raiders fans are pleading with team owner mark davis. to keep the team in oakland. this comes, after the raiders and chargers bought land at a potential stadium site in carson. about 20- miles south of l-a. davis says, he wants to keep the team in oakland. but says he needs to have an alternate plan. if talks with the city and county do not pan out. the raiders carson city land deal sparked a reaction from oakland politicians. with the raider's taking a significant step today. toward a possible move to the los angeles area. oakland mayor libby schaaf says she believes the recent deal the raiders made. is merely a back- up plan. and she is still optimistic that the city can keep the raiders in the bay area. >>:we respect that the raiders are trying to have a backup plan. they are trying to position themselves strongly for negotiation with the oakland politicians but even now the coach says-- owner says that his party is keeping them in oakland as it stands now, the mayor is waiting for the project developer to bring the city the latest proposal by sometime next month
